This was almost my bowl GOY. I absolutely LOVE Army in this spot. You’ve probably read lazy analysis about how good WVU’s run D is. The reality is they got shredded by the top B12 teams and padded their stats against the lower half. Against OK St, ISU, and UT (combined 23-9 as they didn’t play OU) WVU gave up 625yds and 5 TDs on 112 carries, 5.6ypc.
No Army doesn’t have Hubbard or Hall, but they have a well drilled, hard to prep for system and they’re very good at it. WVU only had 10 days to prep and is missing their best LB. Army’s numbers are down as they played multiple triple option teams that know their O. WVU doesn’t have that advantage. WVU can’t run the ball to begin with and the strength of the Army D being the front 7 will make that a theme today and turn WVU one dimensional. WVU is
going to hit some big plays but Army will shorten this game and come out on top.
