Using the average game ratings for each team would favor Maryland by 4 points in this game at Indiana. However, Indiana has experienced a significant amount of negative 3-point shooting variance this season and the Hoosiers have also have a couple of horrendous games have dragged down their average rating. My ratings take those types of variance into account and I would make this game a pick after adjusting for variance. However, Indiana is already without 6-10 C De’Ron Davis, who averaged 1.5 blocks per game and was an efficient scorer around the rim (61.5% FG) and the Hoosiers may be without the best player, F Juwan Morgan, who has a badly sprained ankle and is listed as doubtful – although I hear he’s more of a game-time decision.

Not having Davis is particularly an issue against a big Maryland team that features 7-1 C Michal Cekovsky and 6-10 F Bruno Fernando, as Indiana’s biggest players are just 6-7 if Morgan (6-8) doesn’t play. The early betting action seems to suggest that Morgan will play (the line went from Maryland by 1.5 to Indiana being a small favorite), so I’ll assume he’ll play. However, I favor Maryland by 1 ½ points without Davis playing for Indiana and I’d make it Terps by 4 points if Morgan doesn’t play, so there is line value in favor of Maryland even if Morgan plays and it’s likely that he’s be less than 100% if he does suit up.
