Sherk out of 108 completely now.

Sean Sherk has withdrawn from a lightweight bout against Jim Miller at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has confirmed with the fighter’s manager, Monte Cox.

Cox said the 36-year-old Minnesotan sustained a cut over his right eye that required multiple stitches. The former UFC lightweight champion had been promoted from a preliminary bout to face Miller on the main card only a week ago.

Sherk was also forced to pull out of a bout against Gleison Tibau at UFC 104 last October when he suffered a “Grade II AC separation” in his right shoulder while rolling with a training partner.

Sherdog.com has learned that the promotion is seeking a new opponent for Miller for the Jan. 2 event.

With a mix of strong wrestling and striking, the 26-year-old Miller earned a second-round technical knockout against Steve Lopez at UFC 103 last September in Dallas.

Looks like Harold is gonna be busy for a while.

Harold Howard, who appeared at UFC 3 and UFC 7 during his brief mixed martial arts career, faces two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted two people at a Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, residence, then drove his vehicle into the Fallsview Casino.

Howard, 51, the subject of a Sherdog.com feature in February, was also charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, attempted break and enter, fail to remain, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief and two counts breach of recognizance.

The Niagara Falls Review reported that officers drew their guns on Howard before taking him into custody. He was taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the extent of which were not immediately known.

According to the police report, a man, believed to be Howard, was involved in a dispute at a Niagara Falls residence that resulted in assaults with an unidentified weapon on a male and female victim. The perpetrator then fled the scene in his vehicle and “attended another residence” on the north end of the city, where he collided with a vehicle in the driveway. The male, the report reads, then fled that residence, as well. The victims of the initial assault were taken to the hospital, where they were being treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Police later attempted to stop the vehicle in question, but the driver refused. Officers continued their pursuit, the report said, due to the serious nature of earlier events. Their pursuit ended when Howard -- “intentionally,” according to the report -- drove his truck into the casino at approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

“Thank God it wasn't a Friday night,” Niagara Regional Police Staff Sgt. Shawn Clarkson told The Review. “We were extremely fortunate not more people were around. A couple of people had to duck out of the way, but we could [have] had some real serious problems there if it had been a few hours earlier or another day.”

Kos withdrew against Thiago. Swick might step up.

    21748
Mike Swick has offered to step in for injured teammate Josh Koscheck, who withdrew from a welterweight rematch against Paulo Thiago at UFC 109 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has confirmed with Swick’s camp.

MMAFighting.com was the first to report the news on Monday. A representative from AKA told Sherdog.com that the camp is awaiting word from the promotion, though chances of the proposed switch looked “good.”

Koscheck, who would have had the opportunity to avenge his first-round technical knockout loss to Thiago at UFC 95 last February in London, confirmed his withdrawal on his Twitter account Monday but did not identify his injury.

“I will be good to go back to training in a couple weeks I hope,” Koscheck posted.

The 30-year-old Swick, who trains alongside Koscheck at AKA, lost a unanimous decision to Brit Dan Hardy in a pivotal contender’s bout at UFC 105 on Nov. 14 in Manchester, England.

Thiago grinded out a unanimous decision over UFC newcomer Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The Brazilian’s only career defeat came at the hands of Jon Fitch, also an AKA product, at UFC 100 last July in Las Vegas.

I heard about Kos withdrawing yesterday, but not about Swick coming into the picture.

Sounds like a good enough switcheroo, but I was really looking forward to seeing Kos exact his vengeance.

I also wonder exactly what the "undisclosed reasons" are for Cantwell backing out. I wonder if he thinks that one more loss gets him cut and he wants and easier opponent.

I have to admit that they've been giving him some pretty tough opponents. al-Hussan wasn't a big deal, but then he got Luiz Cane . . . then Stann, who he should've beat but lost to. I would think they'd give him a lesser opponent to get him a win, but instead they give him Matyushenko.
