James Toney wants Lesnar
One has to wonder if boxer James Toney has been hit in the head one too many times. The recent UFC signee told “Inside MMA” (airing tonight on HDNet at 8 PM in Chicago) that he wants to fight the current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar:
"I want Brock Lesnar. I'm the heavyweight champion of the world vs. the UFC champion. That'd be a hell of a match."
While Toney holds an impressive boxing resume, he has not yet had a professional MMA fight inside an octagon. Hopefully a wrestling or jiu-jitsu coach gets their hands on “Lights Out” soon and instructs him to choose his words wisely. Many strikers find out too late that MMA requires skills in multiple disciplines in order to be successful.
Part of Toney’s brash contention could arise from the fact that he feels boxing gets disrespected by the MMA community. In the same interview, he spoke about how he views MMA:
“I never said nothing less about the sport. But when you come disrespect the man who's 20 years deep and has won 12 different titles in six different weight divisions and say MMA sport is better boxing, you got to be kidding me."
