    good luck!!!

i might be wrong but i feel like this will be a easy winner!!!

After being swept in the first half of their six-game interleague road trip, the Cincinnati Reds regained some confidence by engineering their own three-game sweep.

Not that they needed any more of a morale boost before hosting the Cleveland Indians.

The Reds have taken six consecutive series against their intrastate rivals, and the plummeting Indians seem ripe for more struggles as they come into Friday's opener in Cincinnati having lost nine of 10 games.

Dusty Baker's Reds totaled one run as they got swept last weekend in Seattle, twice losing 1-0.

The Reds (40-33) continued to get excellent starting pitching as they traveled down the West Coast to Oakland, but their offense came alive against the Athletics. Jay Bruce went 7 for 10 in the series, including 3 for 3 with two RBIs in Wednesday's finale as Cincinnati won 3-0 to complete the sweep.

"Big time, that's like a reverse sweep," Baker told the Reds' official website. "We got swept and then we sweep. It's not the way you plan it. But that's the way it worked out. We're actually going home the same we left -- seven (games) over (.500). Hopefully, we can get back to double digits (above) pretty soon."

They could get there as soon as Sunday with a sweep of the Indians (26-45), which certainly looks possible given the way Cleveland is playing. The Indians' 12-3 loss Thursday afternoon at Philadelphia was their fifth straight, dropping them to 4-10 against NL opponents this season.

"The first two games were close," manager Manny Acta said. "Today, they just blew us away."

The Reds are likely the last team Cleveland would like to see as it tries to avoid its second six-game losing streak. It's lost 13 of 18 games over the past six series with Cincinnati, including two of three at Progressive Field last month.

Laynce Nix and Scott Rolen both homered twice in that series, while Bruce went 5 for 12.

Cincinnati, which has also won six of seven home games against the Indians, has to be happy to have Aaron Harang (5-7, 5.17 ERA) on the hill for the opener. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 0.99 ERA in four career home starts versus Cleveland.

The Indians' Russell Branyan, a notorious all-or-nothing hitter, has been just that against Harang. Branyan has two homers and six strikeouts in their eight career match-ups.

Harang was a hard-luck loser his last time out, allowing one run and three hits in six innings of Sunday's 1-0 loss at Seattle.

It will be surprising if Harang's counterpart keeps the Reds off the scoreboard Friday. Aaron Laffey (0-1, 5.61) will make his first start of the season after 20 relief appearances.

He's been in Triple-A since late May to stretch out his arm, and went 0-1 with a 3.98 ERA in four games there. Laffey is not coming in on a high note, after issuing seven walks over 5 2/3 innings Saturday.

"For the most part, he's thrown the ball over the plate," Acta told the Indians' official website. "It was probably just a bad game."

Bad games have defined Laffey against the Reds. He's 0-3 with an 11.05 ERA in two relief appearances and one start versus Cincinnati.

The Atlanta Braves didn't seem too overly concerned about getting swept. Opening an extended homestand likely gives them plenty of optimism.

The NL East-leading Braves look for their sixth straight home win Friday night when they open a three-game set against a Detroit Tigers team that hasn't won a series in an NL park in two years.

Despite getting swept by the surging Chicago White Sox, Atlanta (42-31) returns to Turner Field with a one-half game division lead over the New York Mets, who fell to Detroit (39-32) 6-5 on Thursday.

The Braves had won 19 of 25 prior to their three-game series in Chicago, but now face their longest skid since a season-long nine-game slide April 21-29.

"We got swept, but I don't think any of us are leaving here thinking we're a bad team," right-hander Derek Lowe said after pitching seven innings of five-hit ball in Thursday's 2-0 loss.

The Braves begin this nine-game stretch at Turner Field with the majors' best home record at 24-7, winning five of six against visiting AL teams.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are 2-5 on the road in interleague play this season, and they haven't won a series in an NL park since taking two of three versus San Diego from June 20-22, 2008.

Detroit swept the Braves at Turner Field from June 22-24, 2007, in the teams' last matchup, and have won five straight in this series.

Atlanta will look to snap that skid with Kris Medlen (4-1, 3.33 ERA) on the mound. Since being inserted into the rotation for the injured Jair Jurrjens (strained left hamstring), Medlen is 3-0 with a 3.67 ERA in eight starts.

The Braves have won each of his last five outings, including a 5-4 victory over Kansas City on Saturday when Medlen gave up four runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Medlen has never faced the Tigers, who will counter with Andy Oliver. The 22-year-old left-hander will make his major league debut in place of Rick Porcello, who was sent to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Drafted in the second round last season, Oliver went 6-4 with a 3.61 ERA for Double-A Erie and has struck out 70 and walked 25 in 77 1/3 innings.

"This kid, he's got good stuff," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told MLB.com. "There are not many pitchers that have his quality of stuff. I mean, his fastball is way above average. He's got quality, and now he's been able to incorporate those other pitches."

Oliver will face an Atlanta club that is averaging 5.9 runs and batting .297 while winning 19 of 22 at home.

Second baseman Martin Prado could fare better at Turner Field after going 0 for 8 in the Braves' last two games. Prado is batting a major league-best .394 in home games this season.

Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez is hitting .396 with three homers and 12 RBIs against the NL this season.

Braves rookie right fielder Jason Heyward has not fared as well in interleague play, batting .184 while striking out 16 times in 12 games.

    write up!!!

In tight division races, the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets are both coming off inopportune losses.

However, the clubs appear to be headed in opposite directions as they open a three-game series at Citi Field on Friday.

New York (41-31) has been on a tear in the last three weeks, winning 14 of 18, but missed an opportunity to claim sole possession of first place in the NL East after losing 6-5 to Detroit on Thursday.

The loss kept the Mets one-half game behind Atlanta.

While they failed to capitalize, they can feel positive about almost rallying back from a 6-1 deficit. New York scored three runs in the bottom of the first, and Chris Carter added an RBI single in the seventh. The Mets loaded the bases later in the inning, but David Wright and Ike Davis were retired to end the threat.

Wright also struck out to end the game, but the third baseman did drive in a run and had two hits, improving his average over the last 18 games to .366. He's driven in 21 runs during that stretch.

There weren't many positives the Twins (40-32) could take away from a 5-0 loss to the Brewers on Thursday. Minnesota has lost five of seven and was swept in Milwaukee, allowing second-place Detroit to move within one-half game of the AL Central lead.

The Twins, who have occupied first place since April 11, had five hits Thursday, not recording their first hit until the sixth inning.

"I didn't like our energy today," Justin Morneau, who had two of the hits and is batting .478 over the last five games, told the Twins' official website. "We got down early and we didn't show much of a fight."

Minnesota might not find it any easier to hit off Mike Pelfrey (9-2, 2.69 ERA), who has been outstanding for the Mets this season.

Pelfrey had a five-decision winning streak snapped Saturday after giving up five runs and issuing a pair of two-run homers over seven innings of a 5-3 loss to the Yankees.

"He's still a young pitcher who, over the course of a season and in his career, will hit small bumps," manager Jerry Manuel told the Mets' official website. "He just has to look back on them and get better."

The right-hander is making his first start against Minnesota. He is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA in three interleague starts.

To snap their losing streak, the Twins will need Kevin Slowey (7-4, 4.58) to bounce back from the worst start of his career.

The right-hander gave up seven runs and seven hits in 1 2/3 innings Saturday, though Minnesota rallied to beat Philadelphia 13-10 in 11 innings. In his previous start against Atlanta on June 13, he yielded six runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Slowey, making his first start against the Mets, is 0-1 with a 10.50 ERA in three interleague starts this season.

The Twins won two of three against the Mets at Shea Stadium in 2007, the most recent meeting between these teams.

"Every team goes through struggles during the year," Morneau said. "The good teams come out of it quicker than the bad teams. We need to prove we're a good team by going into New York and having a good series."

Winning series haven't been too difficult for the Los Angeles Angels in the last month. Gaining ground in the AL West, however, has been a different story.

After winning their seventh series in the last nine, the Angels continue a 12-game homestand Friday, opening a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies.

Los Angeles (41-34) missed out on a sweep of the crosstown rival Dodgers on Thursday, losing 10-6. Despite their current surge, the Angels have gained only one-half game on AL West-leading Texas since May 24 and are 4 1/2 games behind the Rangers.

Bobby Abreu had two hits and two RBIs but also was picked off trying to steal third in the ninth. He is 10 for 24 with six RBIs in his last seven games.

Like the Angels, the Rockies (38-34) are also coming off a slugfest in their finale. They lost 13-11 in 10 innings to the Red Sox on Thursday, failing to complete the sweep. Colorado had won five of six and eight of 11 before the loss.

The game lasted 4 hours, 48 minutes. Starter Jason Hammel's scoreless streak ended at 28 1/3 innings after giving up four runs, and Huston Street took the loss after giving up a two-run homer in the 10th to Dustin Pedroia -- his third of the night.

Pitching has been a recent problem for the Rockies, who have given up six or more runs in four of their last five games.

After short outings by both starters, Colorado and Los Angeles each send one of their better pitchers to the mound to open this series.

Jered Weaver (7-3, 3.04 ERA) will try to continue his solid work in interleague play after he gave up two hits and struck out 11 over seven innings of a 12-0 win over the Cubs on Saturday for his third win in four starts overall.

With the victory, the right-hander improved to 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in three interleague starts this year.

"Weaver is the ace of that staff," former teammate Marlon Byrd told the Angels' official website. "There's a reason he has the numbers he does; there's a reason he's leading that rotation."

This is Weaver's first start at home since May 29, when he gave up one unearned run and three hits in seven innings of a 5-1, 10-inning victory over the Mariners. He is 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA in six starts at Angels Stadium.

The Rockies, meanwhile, will hand the ball to Jeff Francis (2-2, 3.43), who has pitched effectively in his last two starts, leading Colorado to victories in each.

Francis gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings of an 8-7 win over the Brewers on Saturday. He did not factor in the decision.

The left-hander made his only start against the Angels on June 28, 2006, allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 6-2 win. He is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in two interleague starts this year.

The Angels won two of three at home against the Rockies last year.
