Not sure how I feel about Shogun's attitude here. . .

When the betting lines opened for UFC 128 and young gun Jon Jones was the bookmakers’ favorite to take Mauricio Rua’s light heavyweight title, many observers were surprised at the perceived lack of respect for the reigning champ.

Rua did not fall into that category, however.

“I understand if people think he’s the favorite,” said Rua during Wednesday’s UFC 128 media conference call. “He’s been winning all of his fights easily, and I certainly think he is the rightful favorite for this fight. I truly consider myself the underdog.”

“I don’t really care. It serves as motivation for me,” he added.

I really dont see anything wrong with what he said, imo it sounds like something someone wrote for him rather than his real feelings .

So do you not see anything wrong with it only because you don't think it reflects his true thoughts?

This sounds like mind games to Me. Although I think Shogun takes the underdog status very personal, but also embraces it and uses it to motivate himself. He tends to perform very well when considered the underdog. Both Machida fights saw arguably the best performances Shogun has put on since winning the Grand Prix. Saying Jones deserves to be the favorite could be playing toward that cocky ass attitude Bones carries with him. No doubt, though, if Shogun is at one hundred percent he will remind everyone why he deserves to be Champion.

    I hope Shogun wins.

It's time for Jones to slow his roll.

    Correct.

I cant imagine Shogun of all people believing he should be the underdog .Sounds like he's just being PC to me

I've got my eye on Marshall / Cane, now. If the line keeps moving against Marshall, I may bet on him.

Anyone else think Edson Barbozas line is kinda ridiculous. I know he is a great muai thai fighter but he is still very new to MMA.

I am probably going to bet Barboza. He is (should) be the better striker, and he showed good TDD against Lullo. Njokuani never comes to grapple and is a striker himself.

No way Miller beats him, though.

On second thought, at least maybe now they'll give Akiyama someone he can actually beat for his next fight and he'll get to stick around the UFC a little bit longer.

And they're the bets I'm actually pretty confident in, too!

I bet Akiyama was looking for a way out of that fight. He didn't want to fuck with Marquardt.

They should give his ass Joe Doerksen or Dollaway or something.

Joe Doerksen is cut and is fighting Hector Lombard on March 25th. Marquardt is overrated btw

Just because he's not champ? Because he got beat by the same dude who was minutes away from beating Silva? Because he lost a very close decision to Okami . . . and still looked impressive anyway in his ability to hang with Okami in the wrestling department?

Marquardt may not quite be good enough to beat the very top of the division, but I don't think Akiyama would've given him a lot of trouble, and I don't think Dan Miller will either.
