Even if the rib injury did hurt him I still think Sonnen (without the sub defense problem) is a horrible match up for Silva

There are two things that I like about Sonnen against Silva:

1. He takes the fight to Silva. He doesn't stand at range and box with him, which tends to be what gets everyone else in trouble.
2. His takdedowns are way too good for Silva to defend them.

As long as Sonnen can keep from getting caught on the way in, then he should be able to get Sonnen down. At that point, he just has to stay chest to chest and avoid the sub.

My biggest problem with the injury excuse is that I just don't think he would've taken the fight if he felt it was anything more than a minor annoyance going into it. Why would he?

Yeah, that's how I see it, too. He may have been hampered a bit, but he wouldn't knowingly go into a fight crippled.

Soares was saying he re-injured his rib like 60 seconds into the fight IIRC, not that he was severely injured going in. Either way, I only buy it because his takedown defense and ability to move from bottom looked so much different than his other fights. I think Sonnen can give him a tough fight, but ultimately, I think Silva will stop him again.
