    Strikeforce August 18th

Along with Ronda Hotty Rousey vs Sarah Kaufman, we have:

Thursday’s announcement firmed up the Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Derek Brunson middleweight bout that MMAWeekly.com had previously reported, as well as a welterweight clash between Tarec Saffiedine and Roger Bowling.

I actually included Bowling/Saff in my most recent wagering breakdown for the mag. I think Saff is just going to be too technical and skilled overall than Bowling. Bowling is a glorified brawler with some wrestling skills and a suspect chin. I actually like Bowling, really, but I think Saff will pick him apart.

I didn't see Saff's last fight, but at first thought, I think Bowling could steal a round (most likely the 1st) with some takedowns. However...Bowling just likes to swing for the fences and be very aggressive...he will probably gas and then get picked apart. I think Tarec is going to win..will watch some vids closer to fight time though.

Saff actually looked kind of shaky his last fight, but it's just one performance. Saff's wrestling is actually pretty good, so I'm not sure how successful bowling would be getting him down, and if he does get him down, I'm not sure how successful he'll be keeping him there.

I'd probably take Saff up to -170, though I'm hoping for better.

Bowling won't bea ble to get Saff down. If Woodley couldn't, Bowling can't.

    I have 3u on a Rousey/Jacare parlay.

I believe Saffiedine is going to win, but at -300 it isn't worth it. Bowling +250 is worth a bet imo, but I'm not going to play it unless it gets to around +300.

I don't know anything about Anthony Smith yet...so no comment ont hat.

^^same for T.J. Cook. I have a feeling SF set these fights up for Sayers and OSP to win though.

As for the preliminary card...still have to look. SPX...how does Kedzie match up with Tate? I am sure Tate will be over -300 based on her name. Also...who is Hiroko Yamanaka? Germaine de Randamie is the good striker but is garbage on the ground...if Yamanaka is a grappler and is decent at it...she will win.

The last time I saw Kedzie fight was way back when on EliteXC when she got her ass beat by Gina Carano. But Kedzie's been around a long time. She's 16-10 and has wins over some notable fighters. She seems to suffer from that familiar syndrome of being good enough to be a solid mid-level fighter but falls short whenever she goes up against the top girls in her division, whether it's Carano, or Alexis Davis or Tara LaRosa. It's been so long since I've seen her that I can't really break it down, but I will be pretty damn surprised if she beats Tate. It would definitely be the best win of her career.

As for Yamanaka, she's the Japanese girl that Cyborg destroyed in her last fight before getting popped for PEDs. But Yamanaka is actually 12-1 and ranked #1 in the world in the division. This fight will come down to grappling. If Yamanaka can get Randamie down then she should win because Randamie is a kickboxer with a very basic level of ability on the ground. But if she can't get her down then she's probably going to get blasted on the feet.

I will definitely be on Yamanaka at decent + odds. Just watching Randamie's past two fights and her really bad grappling is an auto fade for me when she is the favorite. She's had time to train since then, but still....Yamanaka seems like a decent grappler from what I have seen of her.. she beat Akano or whatever that Jappler grapplers name is as well

Also...anybody think Brunson has a shot to beat Jacare? I think Brunson will want to keep it on the feet and be very tentative because he is going to be scared of getting subbed, and I think Jacare has the better striking anyways so Brunson may as well be fucked

Yamanaka is a pretty good grappler. My main concern here is one of power. I expect Randamie to be a lot stronger, so if she can combine a little technique with a lot more strength then that might be enough to keep it on the feet for her. But if Yamanaka can get the takedown, then yeah, she should dominate.

Well shit, the "cat may be out of the bag" now...Randamie might even be the dog. Her hype had to get killed since NCAA Budd beat her.

I don't think a lot of people know who Yamanaka is. Yes, Randamie got beat by Budd, but it was a hard-fought win for Budd and Budd is also big and strong.

Yamanaka was last seen getting her brains blown out by Cyborg in 16 seconds.

With Cyborg out though, Yamanaka IS ranked #1 in the world at 145:

Not surprised at all at that Tate line. I was hoping it would be better, though.

That bruson guy fighting jacare is a d2 wrestler. He might be able to keep it on the feet. He was beat by Kendal Grove via split decision but I did not see the fight. The only thing I don't like about taking Saff is the fact that Bowling seems like he has some power and someone was saying he really swings wild. I think I remember seeing that in a fight as well. Almost like a madman. Maybe I am thinking of someone else. Either way Saff will probably win but -300 is a bit rough. I expect both Saff and Jacare to win but the lines are somewhat shitty. Jacare will probably sub Brunson in round one and I will be mad I did not bet.

Bowling is definitely a little wild. He likes to come out hard in rd. 1 and make it a brawl. As long as Saff doesn't catch a punch that KOs him in the first, Bowling will probably gas and Saff will cruise in 2 and 3.
