I bet you were fired up on Sunday when the Aussie had a four shot lead with four holes to play. I bet you were downright giddy. Scott was 40-to-1 before the British Open kicked off, meaning if you tossed a cool $100 on Adam, you would walk away with $4000 if he could have just made a par on one of the final four holes. You might even have sent some gloating texts to friends that dangit, you picked the Open winner before the week won, and your bank account is about to get jacked.
So you're watching, and Scott makes a bogey. And another. And another. And then he hits it in that bunker on the last, and the putt slides by, and Ernie Els is your Open champion and your left sipping that expensive cocktail that now counts against your rent money instead of your earnings money, and well, shoot.

Yep, that's right, a sports book is actually paying you back if you lost money on the guy that would lose the golf tournament in epic fashion.
Seriously, is this the first time anyone has ever done this? It would be like having 20 at a Blackjack table, the dealer turning over a five-card 21, and then allowing you to keep your chips because the cocktail waitress hadn't brought you that Bud Light quick enough.
Is this going to start being a trend? A guy epically collapses and the sports book, trying to keep their customers happy, just says "to hell with it" and allows people to keep their dough?
I guess this shows that the sports books must have had a great week with the Open Championship. Favorites Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood didn't win, and for every dope that tossed a tenner on Ernie Els, there were thousands that put $100 on Tiger or Dustin Johnson.
I'll say, if your goal is to keep your bettors happy, this is a pretty remarkable move. And smart. Good on you, SportsBettingOnline.
