Analysis: At 6:30 pm, our selection is on the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots to go 'under' the total. The Seahawks' defense has been pretty special over the past eight games. They've allowed just 78 points, or less than 10 points per game. Five of those eight games have gone 'under' the total, but one of the three 'overs' -- their 28-22 win vs. Green Bay -- only went 'over' the total due to the overtime session. New England has posted playoff scores of 35 and 45, but those two games were against Indianapolis and Baltimore. And neither of those teams were in the same class as this Seahawks club. Seattle played two quarterbacks this season in the class of Tom Brady: Aaron Rodgers (twice) and Peyton Manning. In those three games, the Seahawks held Green Bay to an average of 19 ppg, and held Manning's Broncos to 20. I foresee a similar result in this Super Bowl, and I feel the current over/under line is a bit inflated due to New England's season offensive numbers (against inferior clubs). For technical support, consider that NFL games have gone 'under' the total in 76 of 130 games (58.4%) over the past 35 years if both teams' last two games totaled at least 48 points. With Seattle coming in off 31-17 and 28-22 victories, and New England off 35-31 and 45-7 wins, we'll play the 'under' in the Super Bowl.

Analysis: I will take the under 122.5 seconds in the National Anthem. Idina Menzel has sung the National Anthem twice at sporting events. In 2008, her version lasted 95 seconds at the regular season meeting between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. And, then, in 2014, at the MLB All-Star Game, her version lasted 120 seconds. I expect this version to be much closer to the All-Star Game version, of course, since it was the most recent. But at that performance, she actually paused three seconds to let Air Force Thunderbird planes fly overhead. Of course, there may (or may not) be Air Force planes scheduled to fly over the stadium during her performance at this Super Bowl. Regardless, the 'under' 122.5 seconds is the better bet. Rickenbach NFL *10* Top Play NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS vs Seattle @ 6:30 ET Sunday, February 1st - The Patriots are on a mission and, as tough as it is to repeat as NFL Champions, the Seahawks face an even tougher task then most teams who have earned themselves the opportunity to repeat. Note that Seattle is facing New England, and mastermind coach Bill Belichick, when he's off of back to back Super Bowl losses. The Patriots, in their last two visits to the Super Bowl, lost to the Giants each time. One defeat occurred in 2008 and the most recent loss occurred in 2012. By the way, the last team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions was the Patriots when they won it back to back in 2004 and 2005. For the Pats and Belichick, this offers even more motivation for this Super Bowl. The Patriots want to take away the sting of losing in their last two trips to the big game and they also want to maintain their status as the only team in this century to repeat as Super Bowl Champs. That's right, the last team to do it was Denver back in '98 and '99. Motivation and history aside here, the biggest key to this play is that no team is playing as complete as football is New England is right now. The power running game, the physical defense, an elite quarterback, and all of these factors are strengthened by having an amazing head coach. As for the Seahawks, while I certainly respect their solid defense and the success that Russell Wilson has had on the other side of the ball for Seattle, there is no doubt the Hawks do not belong in this game. Green Bay had them beat in the NFC Championship Game and let's not forget that the Packers barely slipped by the Cowboys in the Divisional Round. With injuries to Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas (even if they turn out to be minor and they do play in the Super Bowl) will certainly not help matters for a Hawks defense that struggled earlier this season when they were not healthy. After their miracle comeback win over the Packers, the Seahawks luck runs out here. Belichick and the Pats machine (that truly is what they are, a machine with amazing systems), will hoist the trophy this year. Play New England as a *10* Top Play.

Rickenbach NFL *8* UNDER the total in Super Bowl @ 6:30 ET Sunday, February 1st - Though we felt somewhat burned by the fact that the Patriots game did not go over the total in the divisional round, credit must certainly be given to the Pats defense for shutting down Andrew Luck and the Colts. That said, another UNDER result coming New England's way (with more solid defense) in the Super Bowl should not surprise. The last 3 times the Pats were in the Super Bowl the average total points scored has been 38. Couple that with the fact that the Seahawks result of an over in the NFC Championship Game was a miracle and you have some nice value with the lofty posted total in the Super Bowl this year. Before championship Sunday took place, the Seahawks would have been made around a 3 to 3.5 point favorite over the Patriots in the Super Bowl. We had some major over reaction after Seattle needed a miracle come from behind win against Green Bay and New England hammered Indianapolis in the Championship games. Much like last year, I love the fact that the line flipped to make the defending champion Seahawks the underdog in this game soon after the line was posted. The Patriots were very impressive in the AFC championship game against a Colts team that can’t run the ball or stop the run. I expect Seattle to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in this game. The Patriots weakness is stopping the run and the Seahawks are the best rushing team in the NFL. The Patriots also have a questionable offensive line and I would be very surprised to see LeGarrette Blount or any other New England running back have a big day running the football. The Seahawks have a great secondary and nobody in the NFL can match up any better then Seattle against tight end Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots corner back Darrelle Revis might be the best cornerback in the game, but he won’t be much of a factor in this game. Seattle doesn’t have a receiver that Revis needs to lock down and he is not great at run defense on the corner. The knee jerk reaction to the Patriots AFC Championship game blowout gives us value on the defending champs even with them being favored once again, but now all they really need to do is win the game and not win it by a field goal. Also, since 1995 teams that score 40 or more points in a playoff win are just 4-25 against the spread in the following game. Play on Seattle.
