8-Unit Play. #953. Take Over 7.5 Runs Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants (Tuesday @ 8:35pm est)
We roll with the Over here for just our 2nd 8-Unit Selection in Baseball of the year. Note, that these two teams will leave it all out on the field tonight. And, after securing 23 hits in last night's game against two very competent pitchers, there is no reason to think these offenses won't show up to play here once again. The Cubs don't lose often and to see this team lose after tying the contest up late, has to irk a squad that was so close to dissolving yet another portion of the curse that this franchise has been mired in for so long. This team undoubtedly believes and has come this far with highly competent management and front office - and a legendary coach. It's hard to believe the Cubs will have any momentum going into a deciding game if they do not win this here and now. This is essentially a must win for the Cubs as if they lose this game, one has to think the momentum is on the Giants side. Look for Joe Maddon to light a fire into his players as this team will not come out flat as they face Matt Moore. Note, Maddon coached Moore in Tampa Bay if you remember as he is well aware of his former pitcher's strength and weaknesses. San Fran acquired Moore and now he looks to help his squad in the playoffs. The Cubs will be well taught on how to defeat Moore and what to look for. And, the Giants lost to Lackey earlier this year in a tight 2-3 contest and they too have revenge. This is not the John Lackey of old and he is definitely hittable. Lackey has given up 9 walks and 4 home runs over his last 4 starts, including 23 hits over his last 4 starts. Both these pitchers are competent but given the fact the bats of these teams both woke up against solid pitching yesterday, given what is on the line here today, the Cubs on the bounce-back and likely to strike early and the Giants playing well offensively in elimination games, we roll with the 'Over' this evening.

Sometimes you are right but still wrong. We didn’t think Bumgarner would be as effective last night after pitching a complete game in the Wildcard game as he threw 119 pitches. Bumgarner only went 5 innings giving us a huge edge when the game was turned over to the bullpen. Chapman was 36 of 39 in save situations this year before blowing the save last night. The Cubs finally lost in 13 innings. Nowtonight the Cubs still hold the edge since so many pitchers were used last night. Lackey goes for the Cubs and in his last 10 starts he’s given up 3 runs or less in 9 of the 10 starts. The one start that he didn’t he went 7 innings allowing 4 runs in a 5-4 victory. All of the pressure is on Matt Moore for the Giants as he must pitch a gem and go deep for the Giants to win. Although he has been sharp in his last 2 starts it must be noted that Moore has struggled in his night starts this year. In 17 night starts his ERA is 5.03 and his WHIP is 1.34. The Cubs have too many bats and although the Giants are like zombies as it seems you can never kill them off tonight they finally are put to rest. Even a cat only has 9 lives. My numbers have CUBS winning 5-3.
