    2-Unit Play. Take #952 Miami (-130) over N.Y. Mets (7 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

Miami really took it to the Mets last week in Citi Field and I don't think it is going to get any easier for New York here. Wei-Yin Chen dominated the Mets last week and I think that this New York team, which has all of its power on the left-hand side, is going to struggle against southpaws all season long. They are only hitting .231 so far and haven't looked good. Robert Gsellman will take the ball in this one. He was OK in his first attempt against the Marlins, striking out six. But he threw too many pitches and took the loss in just five innings of work. Gsellman is a pure No. 5 starter and he is going to be up and down all season long. I think he will be down in this start as the Marlins get a second crack at him. The Mets are off to a solid start. But that's what happens when you get to play the Braves and Phillies. I think they get slapped here.

    1-Unit Play. Take #954 Chicago Cubs (-120) over L.A. Dodgers (2 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

I'll play the Cubs on the bounce back here. They had several chances to really get into that game last night and they may have been distracted by the drawn-out World Series celebration. I have no idea why the team didn't get their rings when they raised the banners, but now that last year is finally behind Chicago I think they will put their focus into taking care of this series.

    2-Unit Play. Take #970 Kansas City (-125) over Oakland (8 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

Well, the Royals threw up on themselves again last night in an 8-3 loss and that is now eight straight losses against the A's. The last four losses haven't even been close. But I will play against a road sweep here - which would be the second in a row by Oakland in this series - and I think the A's may be simply looking forward to getting home after this game and looking ahead to their next three series against three divisional foes.

    2-Unit Play. Take #960 Cleveland (-1.5, +105) over Chicago White Sox (6 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

    Today's Totals

5-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 9.0 Oakland at Kansas City (8 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

Look, at some point the Royals have to get a hit with runners in scoring position. They are hitting .154 with runners in scoring position this year - including a 2-for-11 effort last night - and they are .091 with RISP and two outs. That's shockingly bad and it is unsustainable for a team that was in the Top 5 in this category over the past two seasons.

Jesse Hahn threw six pretty solid innings in relief in his first outing of the year. But he has been a fringe MLB starter the past two seasons and has a 6.60 ERA in his last nine outings. He was terrible in Spring Training and his decent effort in Texas - which came in a game that was already a blowout in which everyone was on cruise control - may be an aberration. Jason Vargas was excellent in his first start of the year down in Houston. But this is still a guy that's only made four starts since July of 2015. He has gone 'under' in eight straight starts going back to 2015, but that's a bit of an anomaly. Oakland has scored at least five runs in four of their last six games and they are hitting the ball. I think that Kansas City is going to win this game and I think they are going to do it with a strong offensive output. I have this game at 8-3 - a reversal of last night's score - and I think it goes 'over' as the Royals finally come up with some clutch hits.

1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 8.5 Minnesota at Detroit (1 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 7.5 L.A. Dodgers at Chicago Cubs (2 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 9.5 Pittsburgh at Boston (2 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

    1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 8.0 N.Y. Mets at Miami (7 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

2-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 8.5 Baltimore at Toronto (7 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

    Carpe diem. Good luck.

    5-Unit Play. Take #970 Kansas City (-125) over Oakland (8 p.m., Thursday, April 13)

The Royals have lost to the A's eight straight times! I think the streak ends tonight! The Royals are going with Jason Vargas tonight and he has been very sharp. He looked very good in his first start at Houston. I expect that to continue. Vargas has had some injury issues the past few years. But he has not given up over two runs in a start dating all the way back to April of 2015 (10 starts). Oakland has struggled against left-handed pitching so far this year and that should continue here tonight. The A's are going with Jessee Hahn. He gave up just two runs in six innings against the Rangers in his first outing. But Hahn had a 6.02 ERA last year and I think that the Royals will break through against him tonight. Kansas City is 7-0 in Vargas' last seven home starts and 6-1 in his last seven starts overall. Vargas has always done well with extra rest and I think that he will lead the Royals tonight. Take Kansas City.

    MLB BASEBALL PLAYS

3 Unit Play. Take #960 Cleveland -1.5 +105 over Chicago White Sox (6:10p.m., Thursday April 13)
Both teams are struggling to score runs but tonight in Progressive Field I see the home team Tribe getting the 'W' and covering the run-line. The White Sox bats have only scored 4 runs in 3 games and 3 runs or less in 5 out of 7 games. Indians starter Josh Tomlin is looking for a better start then his last because his first start of the season the D-Backs hit him hard and the Indians lost 7-3. The Chicago White Sox are 1-6 when starter Gonzalez starts on the road and the Indians are 14-2 when Tomlin starts against a team with a losing record.

3 Unit Play. Take #956 Cincinnati Reds +105 over Milwaukee Brewers (7:05 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Cincinnati Reds will look to extend their win streak to five games when they take on the Brewers at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, OH on Thursday night. Bronson Arroyo (0-1, 13.50 ERA, 2.25 WHIP) will get the start for the Reds and he will be opposed by Jimmy Nelson (0-0, 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Brewers. Cincinnati has posted a perfect 4-0 record in their last four home games where they faced a team with a road winning % of .600 or higher and they have gone an excellent 11-2 in Arroyo's last thirteen home starts where he faced a team with a losing record. The Brewers, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone just 2-5 in their last seven games versus a team with a winning record and they are an awful 3-9 in Nelson's last twelve starts dating back to the end of last season. Throw in the fact that the Reds have won seven of the last ten head to head meetings between the two teams and we'll take them at the underdog price to get the home win in Cincy on Thursday night.

3 Unit Play. Take #957/958 Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants Over 6.5 -115 (10:15 PM, Thursday, April 13)

Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet when the Colorado Rockies hit the road to take on the Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA on Thursday night. Jon Gray (0-0, 5.79 ERA, 1.61 WHIP) will get the start for the Rockies and he will be opposed by Madison Bumgarner (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 0.93 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the start for the Giants. Colorado has posted a 5-1 record to the over in Gray's last six road starts and they have gone an excellent 8-1 to the over in their last nine road games where they faced a right-handed starter. The Giants have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone up and over the number in five of their last six home games where they faced a team with a road winning % of .600 or higher and they are 11-4-1 to the over in their last sixteen games versus a right-handed starter. Throw in the fact that these two teams have gone a perfect 5-0 to the over in their last five head to head meetings where Bumgarner started for the Giants and that's where we'll have our play as our numbers have both teams putting runs on the board in San Francisco on Thursday night.

2 Unit Play. Take #960 Cleveland Indians -1.5 +110 over Chicago White Sox (6:10 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Indians have gone 7-1 in their last eight games versus a team with a winning % of .400 or lower and they have gone an excellent 17-4 in Tomlin's last 21 starts versus an AL Central Division rival. The Sox, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone just 2-5 in their last seven Game #3's of a series and they have lost six on Gonzalez's last seven road starts. Throw in the fact that the Indians are 4-1 in their last five games versus Chicago where Tomlin got the start for them and we'll lay the 1.5 runs with them here in a game that we have them winning pretty easily in Cleveland on Thursday night.

2 Unit Play. Take #961/962 Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers Over 8.5 -105 (1:10 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Tigers have posted a perfect 8-0-1 record to the over in their last nine games where they faced a right-handed starter and they have gone an excellent 8-3-1 to the over in Zimmermann's last twelve starts. The Twins have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here today as they have gone 6-2-1 to the over in their last nine Game #3's of a series when Hughes got the start and they are an impressive 24-9-1 to the over in their last 34 Game 3's overall. Throw in the fact that these two teams have gone up and over the number in four of their last five head to head meetings where Hughes started for the Twins and that's where we'll have our play as we expect both pitchers to get hit around a bit in Detroit on Thursday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #963 Texas Rangers -120 over Los Angeles Angels (3:35 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Texas Rangers will look for a series win over the Los Angeles Angels when the two teams meet at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA on Thursday night. Yu Darvish (0-1, 3.65 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) will get the start for the Rangers and he will be opposed by Ricky Nolasco (0-1, 3.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Angels. Texas has posted a perfect 4-0 record in Darvish's last four road starts and they have gone an excellent 5-1 in his last six starts when he went on four days of rest. The Angels, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here today as they have gone just 1-6 in their last seven games where Darvish got the start for the Rangers. Throw in the fact that Texas and Darvish have that same 6-1 record in his last seven starts at Angel Stadium and we'll lay the price with them here to get the road and series win in Anaheim on Thursday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #967 Baltimore Orioles +110 over Toronto Blue Jays (7:05 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Baltimore Orioles will look for back to back wins after dropping two in a row when they hit the road to take on the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON on Thursday night. Kevin Gausman (0-0, 5.40 ERA, 2.00 WHIP) will get the start for the Orioles and he will be opposed by Francisco Liriano (0-0, 135.00 ERA, 21.00 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Blue Jays. The Orioles have posted a perfect 7-0 record in Gausman's last seven starts where he went on four days of rest and they are an excellent 12-5 in their last seventeen games overall going back to the end of the 2016 season. The Jays, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone just 1-5 in their last six games versus an AL East Division rival and they have lost their last seven games where they faced a right-handed starter. Throw in the fact that the O's have won four of the last five head to head meetings between the two teams and we'll take them at the small underdog price to get the road win in Toronto on Thursday night.

3 Unit Play. Take #969 Oakland A's +115 over Kansas City Royals (8:10 PM, Thursday, April 13)

The Oakland A's will look to complete a three-game sweep of the Royals when the two teams meet at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO on Thursday night. Jesse Hahn (0-0, 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) will get the start for the A's and he will be opposed by Jason Vargas (1-0, 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Royals. Oakland has posted a perfect 8-0 record in their last eight games where they faced a team from the AL Central and they have a perfect 6-0 record in their last six games at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone just 1-8 in their last nine games where they faced a right-handed starter and they have lost ten of their last twelve games overall going back to the end of the 2016 season. Throw in the fact that the A's have won the last eight head to head meetings between the two teams and we'll take the A's at the underdog price to get the road win in Kansas City on Thursday night.

3 Unit Play. Take #971/972 Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Boston Bruins Over 9.5 (2:05 PM, Thursday, April 13)

Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet when the Pittsburgh Pirates hit the road to take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston, MA on Thursday afternoon. Chard Kuhl (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 2.20 WHIP) will get the start for the Pirates and he will be opposed by Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Red Sox. The Pirates have posted a 4-1 record to the over in their last five road games where they faced a left-handed starter and they have gone 3-1-1 to the over in their last five games overall. The Red Sox have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here today as they have gone up and over the total in five of their last seven interleague home games when facing a team with a losing record and they are 5-2 to the over in their last seven home games versus a team with a winning % of .500 or lower when Rodriguez got the start. Throw in the fact that the Pirates are 11-4-1 to the over in their last sixteen interleague games against a team with a winning record and that's where we'll have our play as we expect both starts to struggle a bit in Boston on Thursday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #993/994 Grand Salami Over 95.5 (Thursday, April 13)

These are all your MLB Plays for today. Your next MLB update will be Friday, April 14, 2017.
