Free Pick Wednesday MLB Day Game

NY Yankees vs. Tampa Bay, 09/13/2017 13:10 EDT

    Money Line: -116 Tampa Bay

    Sportsbook:
    PinnacleSports

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Early Free Pick MLB Wednesday Tampa Bay Rays Money Line (-) vs New York Yankees @ 1:10 ET - Though this is not a true home start for Chris Archer because the game is being played at Citi Field in New York due to Hurricane Irma having impacted Florida, there is no denying that the Rays are still the designated home team. It's always an edge to have the last at-bats in a game and it is also an edge for Archer when he is at home. Tampa Bay has gone 9-5 in his 14 home starts this season. Again, not a true home game here but no denying that the Rays are the designated home team here. Additionally, Jaime Garcia gets the start here for the Yankees but he hasn't pitched in two weeks. He is yet to have a quality start (at least 6 innings pitched while allowing 3 earned runs or less) since coming to the Yankees. Early Free Pick TAMPA BAY money line early Wednesday afternoon. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

New York is on a 9-3 UNDER road steak against winning teams, while Tampa Bay has dropped four of five and only scoring 2.5 runs/game in their last 8 games. Archer has the Yankees number as they struggle with him and he is coming off his worst outing of the season.
The 1st two games of this series were UNDER and this one on Wednesday afternoon will also stay UNDER the TOTAL.

Free Pick Wednesday MLB Early Evening

Baltimore vs. Toronto, 09/13/2017 19:07 EDT

    Money Line: -109 Toronto

    Sportsbook:
    PinnacleSports

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Evening Free Pick MLB Wednesday Toronto Blue Jays Money Line (-) vs Baltimore Orioles @ 7:05 ET - The Orioles are one of the worst road teams in baseball and enter this match-up having lost 6 straight games. That gives them the longest current losing streak in the bigs. Also, the O's will be starting Kevin Gausman and the right-hander has been struggling to find consistency. Though he's pitched better in the 2nd half of the season, he comes into this outing having allowed 5 earned runs in 2 of his last 4 starts. He has allowed 4 earned runs or more in 3 of his last 6 starts. Marcus Stroman gets the call for the Blue Jays here and he faced Baltimore two starts back and had to exit early after being hit with a line drive. However, prior to that he had allowed 2 earned runs or less in 9 of his last 12 starts. Stroman has allowed just 11 hits in his last 15 and 1/3 innings versus the O's. Gausman has given up 19 hits in his last 17 and 1/3 innings versus the Blue Jays. Free Pick on TORONTO BLUE JAYS on the money line in early evening action Wednesday. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

    MLB | Marlins vs Phillies
Play on: Marlins +110 at betonline

Jack's Free Pick Wednesday: Miami Marlins +110

Aaron Nola is having a very good season for the Phillies. But one team he hasn't been able to figure out is the Miami Marlins. That's why I'll take a shot here with the Marlins at a nice underdog value Wednesday.

Nola is 10-10 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.237 WHIP in 24 starts this year. However, he is 1-3 with a 5.24 ERA and 1.253 WHIP in six career starts against Miami. In three starts against the Marlins in 2017, Nola has gone 0-3 with a 10.68 ERA while allowing 17 earned runs and 5 homers in 14 1/3 innings.

Daniel Straily has also put together a solid season for the Marlins in the ace role. He is 9-8 with a 3.95 ERA and 1.231 WHIP in 29 starts this year. He has fared well against the Phillies, too, going 4-1 with a 3.90 ERA in five career starts against them.

Straily is 34-26 (+13.1 Units) against the money line in all games over the last two seasons. Philadelphia is 35-70 (-27.1 Units) against the money line against right-handed starters this season, including 2-9 in their last 11 home games vs. a right-handed starter. The Phillies are 0-4 in Nola's last four starts vs. Miami. Bet the Marlins Wednesday.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Los Angeles Angels -114

The Los Angeles Angels really need wins right now to make the postseason. They trail the Minnesota Twins by two games for the last wild card spot. I think Tyler Skaggs will get the job done here against a team he has had success against. Skaggs is 2-2 with a 3.37 ERA in five previous starts against the Astros. Mike Fiers has allowed 14 earned runs in 8 1/3 innings in his last two starts for a 15.13 ERA. Fiers is 3-2 with a 4.40 ERA in seven previous starts against the Angels.

#MLB FREE PICK FROM MIKE LUNDIN

The Colorado Rockies are riding a six-game winning streak, including back-to-back wins here at Chase Field. They won Tuesday's contest 4-2, and I predict another low-scoring contest tonight.

German Marquez (10-6, 4.27 ERA) will take the ball for Colorado. The 22 year old right-hander has allowed eight runs (six earned) in 10 innings through his last two starts, but under is still 9-1 in his last 10 starts overall. He has held Arizona to 13 runs in five meetings covering 29 2/3 innings in five starts on the season, each game going under the total.

The D'Backs turn to Patrick Corbin (13-12 , 4.16 ERA) who was charged with eight runs on 11 hits and three walks through 4 1/3 frames of a 10-6 loss to San Diego his last time out. He had however been excellent during a five-game winning streak prior to that, allowing just a total of two earned runs in 35 2/3 innings.

Under is 4-1 in Corbin's last five starts against the Rockies.

My free pick is on the Under.

    MLB | Marlins vs Phillies
Play on: Phillies -118 at 5Dimes

    Free Pick on Phillies -

I like the value here with Philadelphia as a short home favorite against the Marlins on Wednesday. The Phillies are riding a huge wave of momentum into this one, as they pulled off an improbable 9-8 win in 15 innings on Tuesday. Philly trailed 2-7 after 6 innings, but score 1 in the 7th, 3 in the 8th and 1 more in the 9th to send it to extra. They then matched Miami in the 10th with a run.

That's a tough loss to bounce back from for the Marlins and it's not like they have been playing well of late, as they are just 2-13 in their last 15 games. On top of that, Miami sends out a struggling Dan Straily, who has a 5.06 ERA and 1.812 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Phillies on the other hand counter with Aaron Nola, who is 7-4 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.045 WHIP in 11 home starts.

Phillies are 13-4 in their last 17 games after scoring 8 or more runs, while Miami is a mere 8-17 in their last 25 after putting up 8 or more runs and 7-24 in their last 31 when they come into a contest having lost 4 of their last 5. Take Philadelphia!

    Dave's Wednesday Free Play:

    1* on Texas Rangers -102

The Key: Great price here with the Texas Rangers at basically even money at home against the Seattle Mariners. Martin Perez is 7-0 with a 3.15 ERA in his last 7 starts. Perez enjoys facing the Mariners, going 6-3 with a 3.54 ERA in 13 lifetime starts against them. Mike Leake has had little success on the road this year, going 4-6 with a 5.05 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 12 starts away from home. The Mariners are 1-6 in their last 7 road games. The Rangers are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. The Rangers are 20-7 in Perez's last 27 home starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Rangers are 5-1 in Perez's last 6 home starts vs. Seattle. Take Texas.

Take the Los Angeles Dodgers with the money-line versus the San Francisco Giants listing both starting pitchers Yu Darvish and Matt Moore. Los Angeles (93-52) snapped their eleven game losing streak last night with their 5-3 win over the Giants last night. The Dodgers have lost a decisive 45 of their last 57 games after a victory. Los Angeles has also won 7 of their last 8 games against teams with a winning percentage below 40%. San Francisco (57-90) has lost 5 of their last 7 games against teams that scored at least five runs in their last game. The Giants have also lost 22 of their last 28 games against teams with a winning percentage over 60%. Take the LA Dodgers with the money-line listing Darvish and Moore. Best of luck — Frank.

    MLB 75 DIME FREE GAME

The A’s were on a roll before getting silenced in the opener of this set. Getting outhit 16-3 is a surefire way to come up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Oakland now has to face a resurgent Fister, who has won five of his last seven starts. Boston is trying to hold off the Yankees in the AL East to avoid playing in the wild card game. The Red Sox are a deep team with plenty of talent.

The Red Sox are 7-2 in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400! I have them winning 7-4. Lay the money on -1.5 run line.

MLB Daily Line Drive: Wednesday's picks, betting odds and analysis

    Double-Play Picks

Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals (-300, 8)

The Braves and Nationals meet in D.C. on Wednesday night for the middle game of their three-game series. The Braves rode a brilliant pitching performance by Julio Teheran to a convincing 8-0 victory in the opener and the Nats will be looking for some payback tonight.

While everyone is talking about big winnings streaks and big losing streaks from the other top teams in baseball, nobody is talking about the Washington Nationals. It's the quiet ones you always have to worry about.

The Nats will send their bulldog Max Scherzer to the mound tonight. Their team win/loss in his last 18 starts is 14-4, and they have covered the -1.5 runline in 9 of those 14 victories. The Nationals are also 7-1 in Scherzer's last eight starts against the Braves and have covered -1.5 in five of those seven wins.

There is no more competitive pitcher in the game than Max Scherzer - he hates to lose and he very rarely has back-to-back rough outings. He allowed four earned runs in his last start, against the Phillies. That is only the fourth time this season that "Mad Max" has allowed more than three runs in a start - the previous three times he has rebounded to the tune of a 0.95 ERA and a WHIP of only 0.895, with the Nats covering the runline on all three occasions.

Braves' "gentle giant" Luiz Gohara will get his second major league start on the other side. It's a tough assignment as the Nats are among the top teams in almost every offensive stat category versus left-handed pitching this season, and Gohara was banged around in his first big league outing for six run in four innings of work against the Rangers.

    Pick: Nationals -1.5 (-145)

Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays (-125, 8.5)

After advancing to the ALCS the past two years, the Blue Jays have been reduced to the roll of spoiler this season and that’s exactly what they’re doing to the Orioles as the Jays look to sweep away Baltimore in Toronto on Wednesday night.

The Blue Jays have embraced their spoiler role, rattling off four straight wins, including the first two games of their series with the O’s, who have dropped six straight games and now sit 4.5 game behind the Twins for the second wildcard spot in the AL.

If there is one guy who might believe the Jays still have a shot at the postseason, it’s Marcus Stroman, who makes the start against the Orioles on Wednesday. The electric right-hander has been a bright spot for Toronto, going 11-7 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 2017. His numbers at home are even more impressive. Despite the 5-5 record, he owns a 2.76 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 15 starts at Rogers Centre.

The Orioles counter with Kevin Gausman. The right-hander has been the epitome of the O’s rotation this season – inconsistent. Look at his last four starts, he has two performances in which he allowed no earned runs in 13.2 innings sandwiched by two starts where he allowed five runs in each and couldn’t get out of the fourth inning.

While one of those good starts was against the Blue Jays, they present good value here. And while it may be too little too late, they are a team that is fun to watch again.

    Pick: Blue Jays -125

    Yesterday's Picks: 1-1
    Season To Date: 140-133-14

    Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

    Streaking:
Mike Clevinger, Cleveland Indians (9-5, 3.30 ERA, $238)

Just like the team he pitches for, Indians' Mike Clevinger is on a streak - although his is a shutout streak.

Clevinger has spun three shutout performances in a row, spanning 18 innings of work. During those three clean performances by Clevinger the Indians are 3-0 and he owns an ERA of 0.00 (of course) and a WHIP of 0.889.

The Indians are big -275 home favorites this afternoon against Buck Farmer and the Tigers as the Tribe look to tie the major league record for most consecutive wins with 21.

    Slumping:
Tyler Glasnow, Pittsburgh Pirates (2-6, 7.45 ERA, $-79)

Tyler Glasnow makes his triumphant return to the Pirates' starting rotation after some time away in the minors. Glasnow had a rough go of it at the major league level during the first half on the season, going just 2-6 with an ERA of 7.45 in 12 starts.

In his last three starts he was 0-3 with an ERA of 9.64 and a WHIP of 1.86. Hopefully, for himself and Pirates backers, he worked out the kinks during his time riding the bus.

Glasnow and the Pirates are +150 underdogs this evening in Milwaukee against Chase Anderson and the Brewers.

Weather To Keep An Eye On

There should be no precipitation impacting any action on the field today across Major League Baseball.

There will be a 10-13 mile per hour wind blowing out to left-center field tonight at AT&T Park in San Francisco where the Giants will take on the Dodgers. The total is set at 7.5.

Wrigley Field in Chicago will have barely a whisper of wind today at 3-5 miles per hour blowing from right-to-left. The total for Harvey vs. Lester is set at 8.5.

    Ump Of The Day

Dan Bellino is the top Under umpire in Major League Baseball and he will be behind the plate for tonight's game in Washington, D.C. between the Nationals and the visiting Braves.

Under is 16-6-4 (72.7 percent) in Bellino's 22 games calling balls and strikes this season and the total for tonight's game has dropped from the opening number of 8.5, down to 8.
