    Laurel - Race #9 - Post: 5:10pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $22,000 Class Rating: 76

    Rating: 4

    #4 XTRA WISEMANN (ML=8/1)
    #9 CIRCLE R (ML=9/5)
    #1A BRAHMS BREEZE (ML=7/2)

XTRA WISEMANN - Gomez was aboard this gelding last time out and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. Gomez should have him moving solid on the turn. Ran a lackluster race at Timonium last out. Racing without the slop puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list. CIRCLE R - Ran a lackluster race at Laurel last out. Racing under normal track conditions puts this gelding at the top of my list of contenders. BRAHMS BREEZE - Gonzalez comes to ride after getting to know the colt in the last race. I like to see fast drills. This colt's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. Ness brings him back again. I suggest you stick with this live colt.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 HE'S OUT OF QUEENS (ML=7/2), #3 FREEDOM STORM (ML=6/1), #8 PETION NIGHT (ML=6/1),

HE'S OUT OF QUEENS - In all probability won't make much of an impact this time. FREEDOM STORM - This gelding recorded a speed fig in his last affair which likely isn't good enough in today's race. PETION NIGHT - Don't believe this pony will make a winning move today. That last speed fig was quite unimpressive when compared with today's Equibase class figure.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - XTRA WISEMANN - After a layoff, has had a few races and today he enters a sprint race. Should be back in form, so I expect this one to perform well in this field.

    STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #4 XTRA WISEMANN on the win end if we get at least 3/1 odds

    Meadowlands - Race #3 - Post: 8:00pm - Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 68

    Rating: 4

    #11 AMETRINE (ML=5/2)

AMETRINE - It looks like Reyes had to come to know this filly on September 2nd when riding her for the first time. Back aboard again today. I like this filly. Has the highest EPS (earnings per start) in today's event. This horse has a lot of class. A good sign in a turf race like we have today. A horse coming back this rapidly after a solid effort is a good omen.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #3 FLASHY VAL (ML=4/1), #6 EASY CRIS (ML=9/2), #14 MARKET MONEY (ML=5/1),

FLASHY VAL - This horse doesn't have a winning state of mind. Quite often finishes near the winner. EASY CRIS - This mare finished out of the money on Aug 31st and wasn't even close last time out either. Speed ratings tell a narrative of decreasing form. MARKET MONEY - No accomplishments for this less than sharp equine in a sprint race over the last two months tells me that this filly is in a very difficult spot

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - AMETRINE - I'm wagering on this one today. A softer field is going to make a big difference. Will be competitive today.

    STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Play #11 AMETRINE to win if you can get odds of 1/1 or more

    EXACTA WAGERS:
    11 with 2

    Race 1 - Claiming - 8.3f on the Dirt. Purse: $10450 Class Rating: 76

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 123 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE AUGUST 23 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000. OKLAHOMA BRED CLAIMING PRICE $6,250.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    The Walker Group Picks

    # 5 COTTON CLUB CUTIE 7/2

    # 4 CHEYENNE BLUES 4/1

    # 6 LOLO 3/1

My selection in this event is COTTON CLUB CUTIE. Wade has a win percent of 16 over the last 30 days. Could best this group based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 60 - of her last contest. She has very strong class ratings, averaging 82, and has to be given a shot for this event. CHEYENNE BLUES - Is hard not to consider based on Equibase Speed Figs which have been very good - 70 avg - of late. Trainer boasts strong win numbers at this distance and surface. LOLO - Profitable jockey and trainer team, with a +7 return on investment. The speed figure of 67 from her latest affair looks respectable in here.

GAME: Los Angeles Angels (76-77) at Houston Astros (94-59)
    DATE/TIME: Saturday, September 23 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
    Preview: Angels at Astros

    Sep 23, 2017

The Los Angeles Angels are falling out of the competition for the American League's second wild-card spot and they attempt to snap their five-game losing streak when they visit the AL West champion Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon. The Angels recorded just two hits on Friday in a 3-0 loss in the opener of the three-game series to fall 3 1/2 games behind Minnesota with nine to play.

Los Angeles is one game under .500 after losing 10 of its last 14 games in an untimely collapse. Mike Trout has been one of the main culprits in the slide as he is just 9-for-53 over his last 16 games and has recorded just two homers and five RBIs this month. Houston has won seven of its last eight contests and is six victories shy of the second 100-win campaign in franchise history. Yuli Gurriel belted a three-run homer and is a torrid 14-for-29 over his last nine games.

    TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, FOX

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Bud Norris (2-5, 4.53 ERA) vs. Astros RH Charlie Morton (12-7, 3.75)

Norris, who has made 57 relief appearances, is making his second start of the season after tossing two scoreless innings versus Texas in the first on Sept. 15. The 32-year-old is coming off a rough relief outing against Cleveland on Tuesday in which he gave up three runs, three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Norris, who spent his first 4 1/2 seasons with the Astros, is making his second career start against his former team - the other being a victory in which he gave up two runs and four hits over six frames in 2013 while with Baltimore.

Morton defeated Seattle in his last turn as he gave up one run and five hits over six innings. The 33-year-old has limited opposing batters to a .220 average in 15 home starts while going 9-3 with a 3.50 ERA. Morton is 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA in four career starts against the Angels, including 1-0 with a 2.70 mark in two turns this year, but has struggled with Martin Maldonado (6-for-10).

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Astros RF Josh Reddick (lower back) departed the series opener and is expected to sit out Saturday's contest.

    2. Los Angeles DH Albert Pujols is just 3-for-25 over his last seven contests.

    3. Houston RF George Springer is hitless in 12 at-bats over his last three games.

    PREDICTION: Astros 4, Angels 2

GAME: Chicago Cubs (86-67) at Milwaukee Brewers (81-73)
    DATE/TIME: Saturday, September 23 - 1:05 PM EST
    WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
    Preview: Cubs at Brewers

    Gracenote
    Sep 23, 2017

The Chicago Cubs may have opened the door for the Milwaukee Brewers to close the gap in the National League Central nearly two weeks ago, but they are doing their best to slam it shut with just a little over a week remaining in the season. The Cubs attempt to lower their magic number for clinching the division from five Saturday when they play the third of four games in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Tommy La Stella drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the winning run and send Milwaukee to defeat in 10 innings for the second straight night with Friday's 5-4 victory, pushing the Brewers 5 1/2 games back in the Central while maintaining a five-game edge on second-place St. Louis. The Cubs have won nine of 10 since allowing Milwaukee to crawl within two games after the Brewers outscored them 20-3 in a sweep at Wrigley Field from Sept. 8-10. While the prospects of winning the division appear to be dwindling rapidly for Milwaukee, it trails Colorado by only two games for the second and final wild-card spot after the Rockies defeated San Diego late Friday night. However, the Brewers have dropped three in a row in heartbreaking fashion, falling in extra innings in each of their first two games in this series after losing on a walk-off home run in Pittsburgh on Wednesday to wrap up a six-game road trip.

    TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, Fox

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.22 ERA) vs. Brewers LH Brent Suter (3-2, 3.41)

Hendricks recorded his seventh consecutive quality start in a win against St. Louis last Saturday, allowing one run over 7 2/3 innings to improve to 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 11 outings since returning from the disabled list on July 24. Over that span, the Dartmouth product has yet to surrender more than three runs - a feat he failed to accomplish four times in 11 tries before his absence. Hendricks took the loss on Sept. 10 against the Brewers after giving up three runs across six frames.

Suter was masterful in his longest outing since returning from the DL earlier this month, permitting only five singles while striking out four and walking none over five scoreless innings to get the victory Monday at Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old Chicago native has not been scored upon in three of his four September appearances (three starts), posting a 1.50 ERA in the process. Suter earned the win at home against the Cubs as well on July 28, tossing seven scoreless innings in a 2-1 triumph.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. The Cubs have won 22 of their last 32 road games since going 18-25 in their first 43 contests away from Wrigley field.

    2. Milwaukee OF Domingo Santana went 0-for-3 on Friday, snapping his three-game homer streak, four-game RBI streak and nine-game hitting streak.

    3. Chicago has slugged 212 home runs this season, tied for the second-highest total in club history (235 in 2004).

    PREDICTION: Brewers 4, Cubs 3

GAME: New York Yankees (85-68) at Toronto Blue Jays (72-82)
    DATE/TIME: Saturday, September 23 - 4:07 PM EST
    WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
    Preview: Yankees at Blue Jays

    Gracenote
    Sep 23, 2017

The New York Yankees, with the exception of Aaron Judge, were unable to get their offense through customs in the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, denting their chances of winning the American League East. New York still is in control of the top wild-card, leading Minnesota by 5 1/2 games with nine to play entering the second of three games in Toronto on Saturday.

The Yankees managed only three hits in Friday's 8-1 drubbing, with Judge reaching base four times and supplying the lone run with his 46th homer to move closer to Mark McGwire's major-league rookie record of 49. New York has had problems putting up runs to support right-hander Sonny Gray, who takes a 3-6 record with the Yankees into Saturday's start despite a 3.29 ERA in that span. Gray has held Ryan Goins to one hit in seven at-bats, but he will want to avoid facing him with the bases loaded -- Goins belted a grand slam in Friday's rout and is 10-for-14 with 20 RBIs with the sacks full this season. Toronto first baseman Justin Smoak is 0-for-9 in his last three games and has homered only once in his last 16 games to remain two shy of 40.

TV: 4:07 p.m. ET, MLB Network, YES (New York), TVA Sports (Toronto), Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Sonny Gray (9-11, 3.38 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Joe Biagini (3-11, 5.33)

Gray is coming off his worst effort since he was acquired from Oakland at the trade deadline, lasting only four innings and giving up four runs over six innings in a loss to Baltimore on Sunday. He had allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his previous eight starts, including a 4-0 setback in Toronto on Aug. 10. Gray has stymied sluggers Smoak and Kendrys Morales, holding them to a combined 4-for-41.

Since returning to the starting rotation late last month, Biagini has been plagued by wildly erratic performances, alternating three wretched outings around a pair of superb ones. He got only four outs at Minnesota on Sunday and was charged with six runs (four earned), which followed eight innings of two-run ball versus Baltimore five days earlier. Biagini held New York to one earned run in seven innings on June 3.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Judge is 7-for-17 with three homers and six RBIs during a five-game hitting streak.

    2. Goins tied Carlos Delgado's franchise record with 10 bases-loaded hits in a season.

    3. Yankees 1B Chase Headley has gone 12 games with an extra-base hit.

PREDICTION: Yankees 7, Blue Jays 3

The Boston Red Sox bullpen should get a large chunk of the credit if the team ends up taking the American League East and moving deep into the postseason. The Red Sox will try to give their relief corps a break and earn a fifth straight win when they visit the Cincinnati Reds in the second of a three-game interleague series on Saturday.

The Boston bullpen is the biggest reason the team is 15-3 in extra-inning games and the relievers are posting an ERA of 1.17 during a stretch of 12 wins in the last 15 games. The Red Sox added another weapon to the bullpen recently in the form of former Cy Young Award winner David Price, who tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Friday's 5-4 win and has yet to allow a run in 4 2/3 innings of relief since coming off the disabled list last weekend. The Reds are losers of four in a row and are struggling to embrace the spoiler role with each of those four setbacks coming against postseason contenders. Boston, which owns a four-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East, will send lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound on Saturday opposite Cincinnati righty Robert Stephenson.

    TV:
4:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Eduardo Rodriguez (5-6, 4.15 ERA) vs. Reds RH Robert Stephenson (5-5, 5.01)

Rodriguez is on a roll lately with two or fewer earned runs allowed in each of his last three starts but is coming off a loss at Tampa Bay. The Venezuela native struck out seven and yielded two earned runs over 5 2/3 frames, but could not get any support in a game Boston went on to lose 3-2. Rodriguez, who struck out 24 in 17 2/3 innings over his last three outings, is 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA on the road.

Stephenson showed off all the skills that made him a top prospect when he got the start against Pittsburgh on Sunday and yielded one hit in six scoreless innings while striking out eight. The 24-year-old surrendered two or fewer runs in seven of his last eight appearances. Stephenson struggles with his control at times and issued a total of 21 walks in 31 2/3 innings over his last six outings.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Red Sox 3B Rafael Devers hit his first home run since Aug. 19 in the opener.

    2. Reds CF Billy Hamilton started on Friday for the first time since suffering a fractured thumb on Sep. 6 and went 2-for-5.

    3. Cincinnati 2B Scooter Gennett hit his fourth grand slam of the season on Friday and is the first player in major league history with at least four grand slams and a four-homer game in the same season.

The Seattle Mariners ended a six-game losing streak in dramatic fashion and look to keep alive their slim postseason hopes when they host the American League Central champion Cleveland Indians on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday to give Seattle a 3-1 victory and send Cleveland to just its second loss in 29 games.

Cruz has gone deep in three consecutive contests and is well aware his team's chances at landing the AL's second wild card aren't strong as it trails Minnesota by five games with eight remaining. "We are running out of time and the other guys are winning," Cruz said in a postgame television interview. "We need to win almost every game and take advantage of the opportunities we get." The Indians saw their lead over Houston for the best record in the AL trimmed to 1 1/2 games and had their franchise-record 14-game road winning streak halted. Friday's game marked the first time Cleveland was held to one run since Aug. 23, a loss to Boston, before the stretch of 27 wins in 28 games began.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), ROOT Northwest (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (16-6, 3.48 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Andrew Moore (1-4, 5.40)

Carrasco is 4-0 over his last five starts with 39 strikeouts against three walks in 35 2/3 innings during the stretch. The 30-year-old gave up two runs during a four-start span before allowing four and eight hits in 6 2/3 frames while beating Kansas City in his last turn. Carrasco lost to the Mariners on April 28, when he gave up three runs and six hits over eight innings and is 2-2 with a 2.96 ERA in five career appearances (four starts) against them.

Moore lost to the Astros in his last start, when he gave up three runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old is making his ninth major-league start and has had issues keeping the ball inside the park (13 homers allowed in 55 innings). Moore is faring well in September with a 3.24 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 16 2/3 innings despite losing his lone decision.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Mariners 2B Robinson Cano, who is 11-for-28 during his seven-game hitting streak, is 7-for-17 with two homers against Carrasco.

    2. Cleveland 1B Carlos Santana was hitless in three at-bats in the opener and is just 2-for-19 over his last five contests.

    3. Seattle 1B Yonder Alonso is 1-for-14 over his last six games and is mired in a 13-game homerless drought.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (80-74) at Detroit Tigers (62-92)

    Sep 23, 2017

The Minnesota Twins had a rough start to the road trip but are picking things back up against the fading Detroit Tigers. The Tigers, who announced on Friday that manager Brad Ausmus would not return next season, will try to play spoiler when they host the Twins in the third of a four-game series on Saturday.

The Tigers are going through a rebuild and decided Ausmus, who has not guided the team to the postseason since his first season at the helm in 2014, was not the right man for the job. "The organization, the club, got to a point where we needed change on the field," general manager Al Avila told reporters after announcing that Ausmus, who will stay on to finish the season, would not be getting a contract extension. "We needed to change the roster, and we started trading players, so the conclusion is: OK, you know what? Let's just take a whole brand-new road and opening up to new things." Minnesota is showing how quickly a team can turn around with young talent and are aiming for the second American League wild card after finishing in last place in the AL Central in 2016. The Twins will try to maintain their comfortable 3 1/2-game edge on that spot when they send Ervin Santana to the mound on Saturday opposite Detroit lefty Matthew Boyd.

    TV:
6:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (15-8, 3.34 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Matthew Boyd (6-10, 5.33)

Santana suffered his first loss in nearly two months when he allowed two runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings at the New York Yankees on Monday. The 34-year-old Dominican scattered three hits across six scoreless frames in his previous start and is carrying a 3.86 ERA through four outings this month. Santana’s last loss prior to Monday came at home against Detroit on July 21, when he was shelled for five runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 frames.

Boyd came within one out of a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox last time out and settled for his first career shutout while walking one and striking out five. The 26-year-old did not work more than six innings in any of his previous nine outings. Boyd tossed six scoreless frames against Minnesota on April 11 and is 2-0 with a 3.68 ERA in four starts versus the division rivals in 2017.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Ausmus is 312-326 in his tenure with the Tigers.

    2. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton is 4-for-8 with four RBIs in the series.

    3. Detroit OF Mikie Mahtook left Friday's game in the fourth inning with a left groin injury.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (81-72) at Pittsburgh Pirates (69-85)

The St. Louis Cardinals need every win they can get in a tight race for the second National League wild card spot and are taking advantage of the teams at the bottom of their division. The Cardinals will try to win their fifth straight game and keep the pressure on the Colorado Rockies and the Milwaukee Brewers when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

The last four wins have come against the last-place Cincinnati Reds and the Pirates, who sit in fourth place in the NL Central. After piling up 25 runs in the three-game sweep at Cincinnati, St. Louis had to push two runs across in the top of the ninth on Friday at Pittsburgh to escape with a 4-3 win - moving a half-game ahead of the Brewers and staying within 1 1/2 games of the Rockies. The loss was the eighth in nine games and the 13th in the last 15 contests for the Pirates, who have scored three or fewer runs in each of those 13 setbacks. Pittsburgh's offense will try to provide some support on Saturday for ace Gerrit Cole, who goes up against Cardinals righty Lance Lynn.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (11-7, 3.09 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (11-11, 4.13)

Lynn made it through only four innings at the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and allowed three runs on five hits and four walks without factoring in the decision. The 30-year-old failed to complete six innings in either of his last two turns and yielded a home run in each. Lynn tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings at Pittsburgh on July 15 and held the Pirates scoreless in two of three starts this season.

Cole is 0-3 in his last four starts and surrendered at least four runs in each of the losses. The former No. 1 overall pick allowed four runs at Cincinnati on Sunday on just three hits - two home runs - and four walks. Cole yielded at least one home run in each of his three starts against St. Louis this year, but held the Cardinals to a 2.50 ERA while going 1-1 in those three turns.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Cardinals CF Dexter Fowler is 13-for-25 with three homers and 11 RBIs over his last six games.

    2. Pittsburgh 1B Josh Bell is 2-for-21 with eight strikeouts in his last six contests.

    3. St. Louis RHP and former Pirate Juan Nicasio has tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings against his former club since being released at the end of August.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (75-79) at Baltimore Orioles (74-81)

    Sep 23, 2017

The Tampa Bay Rays will set a franchise record for homers in a single season with their next blast and can keep their faint wild-card hopes alive when they visit the Baltimore Orioles for the third of a four-game series Saturday. The Rays belted a pair of homers to push their total to 216 - tying last year’s team - in Friday’s 8-3 victory over Baltimore to remain five games behind Minnesota for the American League’s second wild-card.

Wilson Ramos belted a grand slam and Evan Longoria hit only his second homer since Aug. 1 on Friday as Tampa Bay evened the season series (7-7) with five more games left between the American League East rivals over the final nine days of the campaign. Jake Odorizzi hopes to continue his strong finish to the season when he takes the mound for the Rays and Baltimore counters with Jeremy Hellickson, who makes his first appearance against his former team. The Orioles are close to playoff elimination after losing for the 13th time in 16 contests Friday, but rookie Trey Mancini extended his career-high hitting streak to 12 games. Baltimore’s Tim Beckham notched a pair of hits in his first game against the team that drafted him first overall and traded him on July 31, although he is just 15-for-81 in September.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), MASN2 (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (9-8, 4.46 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Jeremy Hellickson (8-10, 5.47)

Odorizzi has won three of his past four outings, including when he limited Boston to two runs on one hit and a pair of walks over six innings Sunday. The 27-year-old Illinois native can reach double-digit victories for the third time in four years but has struggled with the home-run ball this season as opponents have launched a career-high 30 against him. Manny Machado is 11-for-38 with four homers and 11 RBIs versus Odorizzi, who is 1-0 with a 6.10 ERA against the Orioles in 2017.

Hellickson is winless in four straight games while allowing 21 runs (19 earned) over 16 total innings and has surrendered a career-high 34 homers overall - 12 in the past seven contests. The 30-year-old Iowa native was 40-36 from 2010-2014 with the Rays and is 2-5 with a 7.29 ERA in nine starts with the Orioles since being acquired from Philadelphia on July 28. Lucas Duda is 7-for-14 with a pair of homers against Hellickson, who is 1-1 with an 8.20 ERA at Camden Yards in 2017.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Baltimore’s rookie OF Austin Hays is 10-for-27 with six RBIs over his last seven games after starting his career 0-for-7.

    2. Tampa Bay RHP Alex Colome boasts a major league-high 45 saves, tied with Rafael Soriano (2010) for second in a single season in franchise history.

    3. Orioles CF Adam Jones had a pair of hits Friday to pass Brady Anderson (1,614) and move into fourth place on the team’s all-time list with 1,615.

The Atlanta Braves added Kurt Suzuki over the winter to serve as a backup catcher, but he is authoring a career-best hitting season entering Saturday night’s home contest against the Philadelphia Phillies. Suzuki blasted two homers in Friday’s 7-2 victory over the Phillies in the series opener, giving him a career-high 18 on the season, and in 76 games he is hitting .271 with 47 RBIs while helping guide Atlanta’s young pitching staff.

Friday’s victory was the 69th of the season for the Braves, surpassing last season’s total of 68, but it was only the fifth win in 17 times for Atlanta against Philadelphia this season. The Phillies have lost two in a row after winning eight of their previous 11 contests. Second baseman Cesar Hernandez finished with a double and three walks, raising his career average against the Braves to .323 in 69 games with 37 runs scored and 33 walks. Right fielder Nick Williams finished 2-for-3 in the opener and has 22 RBIs in 21 games in September.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Henderson Alvarez (0-1, 7.20 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (11-12, 4.52)

Alvarez made his first major-league appearance since 2015 on Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits with four strikeouts in five innings in a loss to Oakland. The 27-year-old, who made 11 appearances for Oakland's minor-league affiliates in 2016 before having shoulder surgery, earned a shot with the Phillies after going 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA for the Long Island Ducks in independent ball. He was even better at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 2-0 in three starts with a 2.84 ERA before his promotion to the majors.

Teheran makes his final home start of the season looking to finish with a flourish after posting a 6.23 ERA and a 3-10 record in 16 starts in the first year at SunTrust Park. The 26-year-old has pitched better of late in his new home ballpark, surrendering three runs or fewer in each of his past three home outings. Teheran, who is 8-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 14 road starts by comparison, is 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA in three appearances against Philadelphia this season, two of those starts coming on the road.
