    Gulfstream Park - Race #8 - Post: 5:00pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $28,000 Class Rating: 86

    Rating: 4

    #5 QUEEN ROLLER (ML=4/1)
    #2 LIVIN A DREAM (ML=8/1)

QUEEN ROLLER - Filly is a few starts into a come back here. Should give a nice effort today. Amaya seems to have this filly primed for a big effort. Her workout pattern is outstanding. LIVIN A DREAM - Taking a trip down the ladder based on class rating points; has the ability to make her presence felt. Looking like a possible overlay in this race at morning odds of 8/1. Finished sixth in last race at Gulfstream Park but was close at the wire.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 E Z'S MISTRESS (ML=5/2), #8 THREE ILLUSIONS (ML=3/1), #7 SHE'S SPOILED (ML=6/1),

E Z'S MISTRESS - Didn't meet expectations as the favorite twice in a row. THREE ILLUSIONS - When any horse improves so much in the slop, I have to be uncertain about her next race out. SHE'S SPOILED - Not easy to wager on any less than sharp equine in a short distance event if she hasn't finished in the money in a sprint in the last couple months. This steed ran a common speed fig last out. She shouldn't improve and will likely suffer defeat in today's race running that figure.

    # 5 BROOKIE 8/1

    # 9 HARBOR JEDI 3/1

    # 11 ABBY IN PINK 6/1

BROOKIE is the best wager in this race and is a very strong value wager given the line. Looks very good versus this group of animals and should be one of the early speedsters. Might go off at a nice number and has some positive angles going for her. Likely to see a solid outing with the class drop. HARBOR JEDI - She has been running very well lately while recording very solid Equibase speed figs. Must be given a shot given the class of races run lately. ABBY IN PINK - Has to be carefully examined - I like the figures from the last race.

    Thistledown - Race #6 - Post: 4:10pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $27,000 Class Rating: 91

    Rating: 3

    #4 LUCKYALLMYLIFE (ML=5/2)
    #7 BLAZING BLING (ML=6/1)

LUCKYALLMYLIFE - My expertise says this is the lone presser in the race. A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a strong race is a good signal. BLAZING BLING - Hamm seems to have this mare primed for a big effort. Her workout pattern is super. Dropped down in class last time around the track, and keeps in that lower class level right here. A good sign this horse is comfortable and ready to go. When a thoroughbred drops at least five lbs (like this one is), you must take notice. It may not seem like much, but its possible this could make the difference. Sub-par performance last time out at Mahoning Valley Race Cour was due to the off-going (she ended up fourth). Expect better in this race on a non-sloppy track.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #3 CAT TRAP (ML=7/2), #1 YURUBI (ML=4/1), #6 KENTUCKY LADY (ML=6/1),

CAT TRAP - This entrant ran a mediocre speed rating last time out. She shouldn't run much better and will likely get beat in today's event running that figure. This mare will probably bounce, and not be anywhere near the recent speed fig of 82. YURUBI - No picnic to wager on any mount in a sprint clash at 4/1 when she hasn't shown any on the board results in sprints in the last couple of months. KENTUCKY LADY - Mediocre fig last out at Presque Isle Downs at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't think this horse will improve too much in today's race.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - LUCKYALLMYLIFE - This filly has the top speed figure last race with a very good 91. She is the top wager here.

    # 1 ZLATICA 10/1

OUR MISS MAGGIE is the strongest wager in this race. Posted a sound Equibase speed fig in the latest race. Can run another good one in this affair. Reliable average speed figures in dirt sprint races make this animal a solid contender. Earning some good dough in dirt sprint races. MOON OVER VICTORIA - Should best this group of horses in this race here, showing decent figures of late. Recorded a reliable Equibase speed fig in the last race. Can run another good one in this affair. ZLATICA - Has garnered formidable Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races in the past.

GAME: Houston Astros (97-60) at Texas Rangers (76-81)
    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, September 27 - 2:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
    Preview: Astros at Rangers

    Gracenote
    Sep 27, 2017

Justin Verlander has been nothing short of sensational since being acquired by the Houston Astros, posting a 4-0 mark with a rail-thin 0.64 ERA in four starts with his new club. Verlander aims to continue his stellar form as the Astros bid for the top mark in the American League on Wednesday afternoon in the third contest of a four-game series versus the host Texas Rangers.

Brian McCann and Cameron Maybin each homered and drove in three runs as Houston posted its 10th win in 12 outings with a 14-3 rout on Tuesday. The offensive uprising was accomplished without the services of Jose Altuve (AL-best 199 hits and .348 batting average), who is considered day-to-day as he nurses a left forearm contusion sustained after he was hit by a pitch in the series opener. The AL West-champion Astros (97-60) have ascended to within one game of Cleveland (98-59) for the top mark in the league, although the Indians own the tiebreaker for home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs if they finish with the same record. Texas, which sends right-hander Nick Martinez to the mound, officially was eliminated from postseason contention following its fifth consecutive loss on Tuesday.

TV: 2:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, AT&T SportsNet-Southwest (Houston), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Justin Verlander (14-8, 3.38 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Nick Martinez (3-7, 5.42)

Verlander improved to 6-0 in his last seven starts on Friday after allowing just one hit and striking out six in seven innings of a 3-0 win versus the Los Angeles Angels. The 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner's last loss came at the expense of the Rangers, against whom he surrendered three homers and five runs total in six innings of a 10-4 setback while pitching with Detroit on Aug. 15. Verlander has struggled in his career against Elvis Andrus (.308), although former Astro Carlos Gomez (.118) and Joey Gallo (.167) have been held in check.

Martinez fell to 0-4 with a 6.80 ERA in his last 10 appearances (six starts, four relief) after allowing four runs for the third straight outing in Friday's 4-1 loss at Oakland. The 27-year-old owns an 0-2 record with a 4.58 ERA in four games versus the Astros this season, including a loss despite yielding two runs in five innings of a 5-1 setback on Aug. 31. Josh Reddick (8-for-18), Carlos Correa (5-for-9) and Alex Bregman (4-for-9) have gotten under the skin of Martinez, although the hurler has kept Altuve (5-for-23) in check.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Houston LF Marwin Gonzalez is 8-for-12 with four RBIs and five runs scored in his last three contests.

    2. Texas 2B Rougned Odor is mired in an 0-for-14 slump in his last six games.

    3. Astros C Evan Gattis has collected back-to-back two-hit performances after going 2-for-21 against the Rangers previously this season.

    PREDICTION: Astros 3, Rangers 1

GAME: Miami Marlins (74-83) at Colorado Rockies (85-73)
    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, September 27 - 3:10 PM EST
    WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
    Preview: Marlins at Rockies

    Gracenote
    Sep 27, 2017

The Colorado Rockies attempt to move closer to sewing up a National League playoff spot when they conclude their three-game series against the visiting Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Colorado holds a 1 1/2-game lead over Milwaukee and is 2 1/2 ahead of St. Louis for the second wild card with four contests remaining,

The red-hot Jon Gray is aiming to win his fourth consecutive decision as well as help the Rockies take another step toward their first playoff berth since 2009. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer in Tuesday's 6-0 victory to raise his NL-leading RBI total to 129. Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is three behind Arenado in the RBI race but is just 1-for-9 in the series. Miami has won 14 of 19 meetings with Colorado since the start of the 2015 season and will look to play the spoiler role after splitting the first two games of this series.

    TV:
3:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Florida (Miami), AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins LH Adam Conley (7-7, 5.74 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jon Gray (9-4, 3.62)

Conley is looking to bounce back from a horrific effort against Arizona in which he allowed seven runs and six hits over 1 2/3 innings but was fortunate to escape with a no-decision. The 27-year-old has lasted fewer than five frames in three of his last four turns, posting a 9.56 ERA during that stretch. Conley is 1-0 with a 5.91 ERA in two career starts versus Colorado but has enjoyed success against Jonathan Lucroy (0-for-14).

Gray has recorded a 1.50 ERA over his last four starts as he once again shows signs of becoming the staff's ace. The 25-year-old had his season interrupted by a broken left foot, and a victory on Wednesday would match the career-best total he set last season. Gray has struggled against the Marlins by going 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA in three career starts and has experienced issues with Stanton (4-for-8, two homers), Marcell Ozuna (3-for-4, two walks) and Dee Gordon (3-for-6).

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Tuesday's victory was the Rockies' first in five games against the Marlins this season.

    2. Miami CF Christian Yelich is 1-for-12 with six strikeouts over his last three contests.

    3. Colorado RF Carlos Gonzalez went 3-for-4 on Tuesday after going hitless in 10 at-bats over his previous four games.

    Sep 27, 2017

After playing themselves out of postseason contention, the Seattle Mariners still hope to avoid a losing record this season. Seattle lost eight of nine to end its chances at a wild-card spot in the American League but attempts to complete a three-game sweep against the Athletics in Oakland on Wednesday afternoon and get within three games of .500 with three remaining.

The Mariners also have a shot at second place in the AL West as they trail the Los Angeles Angels by 1 1/2 games following Tuesday's 6-3 triumph. Yonder Alonso has gone deep in back-to-back contests following a 15-game drought and has hit each of his last three homers against his former Oakland team. The Athletics had visions of escaping the division basement as they entered the series with a seven-game winning streak, but they trail third-place Texas by four games with five remaining. Khris Davis has homered in three of his last four contests, matching his career high with his 42nd of the season in Tuesday's setback.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Erasmo Ramirez (5-6, 4.35 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Kendall Graveman (6-4, 4.17)

Ramirez's winless streak reached six starts on Friday despite a superb effort against Cleveland that resulted in a no-decision. The 27-year-old Nicaraguan, who has suffered only two losses during his drought, allowed just one run and three hits while registering a career high-tying 10 strikeouts over eight innings. Ramirez has yet to solve Oakland, going 0-7 with a 4.78 ERA in nine starts and six relief appearances - including one of each this season.

Graveman improved to 3-0 over his last six starts on Friday, when he limited Texas to one run and six hits in seven innings. The 26-year-old native of Alabama has allowed a total of two runs in 15 frames over his last three overall turns and is unbeaten at home this year, going 5-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 10 outings. Graveman is 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA in nine career appearances (seven starts) against Seattle, including a no-decision at home on Aug. 8 in which he yielded four runs - three earned - and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Mariners SS Jean Segura (finger) hopes to return to the lineup for Friday's road game against the Los Angeles Angels.

    2. The MRI exam on Oakland RHP Jharel Cotton came back clean, but manager Bob Melvin has decided the rookie will not pitch again this season.

    3. Seattle manager Scott Servais announced OF Guillermo Heredia is done for the year due to a nagging shoulder injury while RHPs Felix Hernandez and Mike Leake also have made their last appearances in order to prevent aggravating shoulder and lat ailments, respectively.

GAME: San Francisco Giants (62-96) at Arizona Diamondbacks (91-67)

    Sep 27, 2017

The Arizona Diamondbacks have to wait another week before hosting the National League wild-card game, but J.D. Martinez already is in postseason form. Martinez looks to maintain his torrid pace Wednesday as the Diamondbacks continue their three-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants, who need one victory over their final four games to avoid their first 100-loss season since 1985.

Martinez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBIs in Tuesday’s 11-4 victory, giving him 15 home runs this month and 28 in 58 games since joining Arizona in a trade with Detroit. The Diamondbacks clinched their first playoff berth since 2011 on Sunday and plan to play most of their regulars during this weekend’s series at Kansas City. “My thought is to continue playing the type of baseball we've played all year long and not take anything for granted,” manager Torey Lovullo told reporters. “And not take days off or ho-hum our way through the next several games, because no team is good enough to just turn that switch on and be ready for such an important game on Wednesday.” The Giants own the worst record in the majors at 62-96 but received an encouraging effort Tuesday from rookie reliever Reyes Moronta, who struck out the side in a scoreless sixth inning.

TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (9-15, 4.51 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Braden Shipley (0-1, 5.40)

Samardzija lost his third straight start on Friday, giving up four runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 32-year-old has reached the 200-inning mark for the fifth consecutive season and needs one more win to become the only Giants starting pitcher with double digits in victories this season. Jake Lamb is 6-for-16 with a home run against Samardzija, who is 3-4 with a 4.32 ERA in 16 career games (11 starts) versus Arizona - including a 1-3 mark and 5.13 ERA in four outings this year.

Shipley is making a spot start in place of ace Zack Greinke, who was pushed back to Friday so he can stay on normal rest for the wild-card game on Oct. 4. Shipley last started on June 4 against Miami, allowing five runs - four earned - over five innings. The 25-year-old has posted a 1.50 ERA in five relief appearances at home this season compared to a 6.89 ERA in four games (two starts) on the road.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Martinez has collected 35 RBIs this month, tying a club record set by Luis Gonzalez in June 2001.

    2. Giants MGR Bruce Bochy said RHP Matt Cain will start one of the first two games of this weekend’s series against San Diego.

    3. Arizona RHP Archie Bradley has held opponents scoreless in 24 of his last 26 appearances.

Although the sample size is relatively small, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has tormented the Baltimore Orioles throughout his career. McCutchen took it to another level in Tuesday's 10-1 drubbing of the visiting Orioles and looks to continue his success when the teams end their two-game series Wednesday night at PNC Park.

McCutchen went 4-for-4 with two homers, including his first career grand slam, and eight RBIs to raise his batting average against Baltimore to .500 (25-for-50) in 13 games. Fellow outfielder Starling Marte, who bats in front of McCutchen, has hit safely in seven straight games after collecting a pair of hits and scoring three times to lift Pittsburgh to its third straight win. It was the ninth loss in 12 games for the Orioles, whose beleaguered pitching staff has been pummeled for at least eight runs in eight of their last nine setbacks. Rookie left fielder Trey Mancini had one of Baltimore's five hits to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 15 games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Gabriel Ynoa (2-2, 3.41 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Chad Kuhl (7-11, 4.31)

Shifted to the starting rotation earlier this month, Ynoa was outstanding against Tampa Bay on Thursday, going a season-high eight innings and allowing one run on five hits. He lost his previous two starts - each on the road at the New York Yankees and Cleveland - by allowing six runs over a combined nine innings. Ynoa owns a 2.78 ERA at home compared to a 5.00 ERA on the road.

Kuhl has pitched reasonably well since a 12-start winless drought earlier this season, but he was tagged for four solo home runs over 4 2/3 innings of a loss at Cincinnati last time out. The 25-year-old yielded seven earned runs over his previous five starts but went only 2-2 in that span. Kuhl faced the Orioles at Baltimore in June, pitching five innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. McCutchen's eight RBIs were one shy of the franchise record and the most by a Pittsburgh player since Jason Bay on July 2, 2004.

    2. Orioles 1B Chris Davis ran his hitting streak to five games after swatting his 26th homer Tuesday.

    3. Pirates OF-2B Adam Frazier has three two-hit games in his last four.

    PREDICTION: Pirates 5, Orioles 4

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (76-81) at New York Yankees (88-69)

    Preview: Rays at Yankees

    Sep 27, 2017

The New York Yankees are not done yet in their pursuit of the American League East title and look to move a little closer when they host the Tampa Bay Rays for the middle contest of their three-game series on Wednesday. The Yankees won for the 17th time in 23 contests with a 6-1 triumph on Tuesday and moved within three games of first-place Boston in the AL East with five remaining.

Aaron Judge extended his hitting streak to nine games (13-for-32, seven homers, 13 RBIs) and Starlin Castro remained hot with three hits to improve to 6-for-10 over his last three contests for New York. Luis Severino, who is slated to pitch in the AL wild-card game on Tuesday if the Yankees don’t win the division, will take the mound Wednesday in his final regular-season start while Tampa Bay counters with Matt Andriese. The Rays officially were eliminated from playoff contention with their 11th loss in 17 games against New York this season, but Steven Souza Jr. went 3-for-3 and has scored six runs in his last five contests. Wilson Ramos is 8-for-14 with eight RBIs over his last four games after knocking in Tampa Bay's only run with a sacrifice fly as New York center fielder Aaron Hicks robbed him of a grand slam in the first inning.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Matt Andriese (5-4, 4.44 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Luis Severino (13-6, 3.03)

Andriese is winless in his last seven appearances after posting a quality start against Baltimore last time out, when he allowed three runs over six innings on Thursday. The 28-year-old Californian is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in five outings since coming off the disabled list and 1-4 with a 5.60 ERA on the road in 2017. Judge is 5-for-9 with two homers versus Andriese, who is 2-2 with a 5.64 ERA in seven career games (five starts) against the Yankees.

Severino ended a stretch of six straight quality starts last time out as he allowed three runs on five hits and a walk across three innings against likely wild-card game opponent Minnesota. The 23-year-old Dominican registered a 1.55 ERA over his previous six turns and is 8-2 since the All-Star break. Corey Dickerson is 4-for-8 with a homer against Severino, who is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA in nine career games (five starts) versus the Rays.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Tampa Bay CF Kevin Kiermaier, who recorded two hits on Tuesday, is batting .314 since returning from a hip injury in mid-August.

    2. New York CF Jacoby Ellsbury was rested Tuesday but is 26-for-72 with 13 walks, eight doubles and 18 runs scored this month.

    3. Rays 3B Evan Longoria needs one homer to reach 20 for the ninth time in his first 10 major-league seasons.

    PREDICTION: Yankees 6, Rays 3
