3 Unit Play. Take #154 Marshall -15.5 over Old Dominion (2:30p.m., Saturday October 14)
Revenge has been the word of the week at the University of Marshall as last year Old Dominion beat Marshall 38-14 and Saturday afternoon the Thundering Herd get revenge. Old Dominion comes into this road game dropping 3-straight and have been outscored in those 3 games 149-51 and the Herd should put up big numbers against the ODU defense. The Thundering Herd have been covering machines this year going 4-1 straight up and 4-1 against the spread and with this game being played Joan C. Edwards Stadium the Herd having no problem covering this big number. Old Dominion is 4-13-1 ATS following a SU loss and ODU is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games. Marshall is 19-9-1 ATS in their last 29 home games and the Herd offense will put up big numbers against the ODU defense.

7 Unit Play. Take #173 Utah +13 over USC (8:00p.m., Saturday October 14 ABC)
Last weekend the Utah Utes gave us a victory and Saturday night in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum the Utes defense will provide us a big 7-Unit winner. USC is a surprising 5-1 straight up but the Trojans are a horrendous 1-5 ATS this year. Both teams can play unbelievable defense and with great 'D' from both PAC-12 teams I see a very tight and close game. USC QB Sam Darnold can make every pass in the book but this year he has been vulnerable with the INT's. Darnold has 12 touchdown passes but he also has 9 interceptions and with a Utah defense that plays well together the Utes 'D' will keep this game close and we cash another underdog ticket with Utah. Utah is coming off a tough home loss last Saturday against Stanford 23-20 and that was the Utes first loss of the season. Two out of the last 3 meetings between these two teams the winner has won by 4-points or less and Saturday night I see the USC Trojans winning this home game by 7-points or less. Utah is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and the Utes are 5-1-1 ATS against conference opponents. USC is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games and again I see a close conference game being played in LA Saturday night.

    3 Unit Play. Take #177 UCLA -1 over Arizona (9:00p.m., Saturday October 14 PAC-12)
UCLA has won the last 5 meetings against the Arizona Wildcats and beating the Wildcats in their stadium (Arizona Stadium) has not been that tough. Arizona has lost back-to-back home games this year losing to Utah 30-24 and Houston 19-16 and if they can't slow down Josh Rosen and the Bruins offense I see another Arizona home loss. Arizona is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 conference games and UCLA is a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

4 Unit Play. Take #193 Navy +3.5 over Memphis (3:45p.m., Saturday October 14 ESPNU)
I know this is not a 'Power 5' conference game but this game should be very entertaining and wouldn't shock me to see this game go to the wire in the 4th quarter. The high power rushing attack of the Navy Midshipmen should provide a points of plenty and this game should see tons of scoring. Last year Navy won at home against Memphis 42-28 and the Midshipmen racked up 447 rushing yards against Memphis and again if the Tigers defense can't slow down the Navy run game this game should be another Navy 'W'. Memphis has only 1 loss this year and that was against UCF and UCF was able to rush for over 300 yards in that game. If Navy can establish the run then we should have no problem cashing this ticket but if Memphis slows down the run then this game will be a nail biter. Either way I see Navy winning outright of covering this game. Memphis is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and Navy is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.

    8-Unit Play. #135. Take Rutgers +2.5 over Illinois (Saturday @ 12pm est)

The bit of a shocker we have for this week is Rutgers over Illinois. Though Rutgers is not a huge dog at Illinois, the fact that nearly 80% of the public is on Illinois is something that allowed us to take a closer look at this game. Remember, Rutgers has a lot of value here as a team which is what we look for. Rutgers is led by former Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Chris Ash who knows how to build a winning culture as he has been around one with Urban Meyer. Not surprisingly you have a Rutgers team that is top 50 when it comes in defense and Ash is getting a lot of his players given the talent level that he has and he is doing a quality job recruiting as well. And, we like the fact this team comes off a 0-56 loss against Ohio State as they were blanked. Prior to that remember this team lost 17-27 to Nebraska as 10 point underdogs, lost 13-16 to Eastern Michigan (we were on Eastern Michigan in this game) in a very tight game and note that Eastern Michigan is a very good defense so this loss should not be one where you look down on this team. And, this team lost 14-30 to a very good Washington team and covered at home. Illinois has one of the worst offenses in the nation and their defense frankly is not that good either as they rank outside the top 100 on defense. We think Rutgers gets up for this game, has faced elite competition this year, comes off a 0 point performance against Ohio State, beat this Illinois team last year 24-7 and we expect a very similar type of contest here where Rutgers is motivated and we will take the team with the better defense to boot. Note, Rutgers does not have a bad running game either and they very well might be able to control the line in this game. Remember, Rutgers has just 1 win on the year so they will be up for this game in a big way as this team will improve and get better and we like them to get up for this game. Illinois is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

3-Unit Play. #171. Take Appalachian State -13 over Idaho (Saturday @ 5pm est)

Though the public is on Appalachian State we still like them here in this small conference game. This is a renowned program that cares about its football and they have produced some elite performances over the years including beating Michigan that comes to mind. So, you can never take this team for granted or their football pride. This team lost to UGA 10-31 earlier this year and only lost to Wake Forrest by 1 point earlier this year 19-20 (and they were only 5 point dogs in that game). This is a top 60 offense and top 40 defense and though Idaho has revenge, they might not be able to hang in there per scoring points. This team has a decent defense but they rank top 95 in offense and the last time a situation like this arose when they faced a team that can score points was UNLV and they lost to them 16-44. Hence, let's roll with Appalachian State as they are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 road games and the Vandals 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games when they face a team with a winning record.

3-Unit Play. #194. Take Memphis -3.5 over Navy (Saturday @ 3:45pm est) (Currently -3 at CG Technology)

It's not everyday that you want to go against Navy these days as they are a top 25 team, but we will see if they earned their ranking this week as they face Memphis. Navy for as good as they are they find themselves as underdogs this week. Remember, that Navy is nearly dead last in the nation in passing as they are a rushing team that is as elite as it comes with over 400 yards rushing the ball per game. But, their defense is around 76th and they are 80th when it comes to run defense. Plus, Navy has UCF on deck who is also ranked. Memphis has more of a balanced attack as they are top 15 in passing and top 45 in rushing. Plus, Memphis is angry from losing to UCF 2 weeks ago when they last faced a ranked team and a win here can go a long way for this team. With Houston on deck, with a win there, they could find themselves right back in the top 25 so this becomes a must win. Memphis lost to this team 28-42 as well last year and we think they will play well and pick up the win this weekend.

3-Unit Play. #119. Take Over 59 Ohio vs. Bowling Green State (Saturday @ 3:30pm est)

Though the public is against us in this play, we will ride the Over. You have a Ohio team that is top 30 in rushing and top 25 in the nation in points scored and they sport a defense that is top 115 in passing yards allowed. They come off a loss to Central Michigan scoring just 21 points in that game and the last time they came off a loss they put up 42 on Kansas at home. This team is angry from the loss, is 4-2 for a reason and they face a Bowling Green State team that is a lot better than their 1-5 record shows. Bowling Green put up 23 on Akron who is a decent team (played Troy tough) and who just beat Miami of Ohio in a stunner 37-29 outright as a 17 point dog. Great spot here for this team to be an active underdog once again as this team does like to throw throw the ball and is a top 65 passing team. Let's roll with the 'Over' as we think that Bowling Green will push Ohio to the limit and Ohio will score its fair share of points off a loss.

3-Unit Play. #195. Take New Mexico State -7 over Georgia Southern (Saturday @ 6pm est)

It's not everyday that you find New Mexico State a touchdown favorite but we like them on the road here against a Georgia Southern team that is rebuilding. New Mexico State is a top 30 offense, top 10 in passing yards and they can put points in a hurry. This team is also top 55 in passing yards allowed and lost to Georgia Southern 19-22 last year and have revenge in this game. They have lost back to back games to both Arkansas and App State and can ill afford to lose 3 in a row as they are still in the hunt for a Bowl. Georgia Southern is one of the worst offensive teams in the country and though they have a decent pass defense, at the end of the day, New Mexico State simply needs this game too much to likely not be focused, win and likely win going away.

    Rutgers vs Illinois

    Illinois -135

It's not too much to ask Illinois to beat the worst team in the Big Ten, Rutgers, at home. The Scarlet Knights haven't won a road game, after all, since November of 2015. The Illini hold a talent edge on the Scarlet Knights. Illinois has been derailed by quarterback turnovers. I don't see that being as much of an issue against this caliber of opponent especially at home. Rutgers has scored a combined 44 points in its last four games - all losses - against Purdue, Eastern Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State.
