    Gracenote
    Oct 18, 2017

With three losses in its last four games, Temple aims to stop the bleeding Saturday in its road date against Army. The Owls have won 10 games in each of the last two seasons but likely will struggle to make another bowl game if they don't start pulling some upsets.

Temple's last outing was a 28-24 home loss to Connecticut in which the team rallied with 10 points in the fourth quarter before falling short. “It’s always disappointing when you have a loss, but we’re going to bounce back,” said Owls running back David Hood. “We’re not really thinking about being bowl eligible. We’ve just got come out with energy - play the first quarter like it’s the fourth." Army has won three straight games and persevered last week despite not completing a single pass. It was actually the third time this season that the Golden Knights did not complete a pass, but fortunately the team can lean on the nation's second-ranked rushing offense (378.4 yards per game), which has scored a national-best 28 touchdowns on the ground.

TV: Noon ET, CBS Sports Network. LINE: Army -7

ABOUT TEMPLE (3-4): Logan Marchi passed for 356 yards and Hood racked up 120 total yards and a score in last week's defeat in which the Owls were doomed by 12 penalties and two turnovers. The team went a combined 5-of-18 on third and fourth down as junior running back Ryquell Armstead continued to struggle. After running for 919 yards and 14 touchdowns on 5.9 yards per attempt in 2016, Armstead is averaging 3.2 yards per carry and has one touchdown on 86 carries this season.

ABOUT ARMY (5-2): Army, one of four independent teams in college football, defeated Eastern Michigan 28-27 a week ago as safety James Gibson made a game-saving tackle on a two-point conversion in the final minute. "Every win is important. Every time you have a chance to get a victory it means something," coach Jeff Monken said. "To be able to overcome adversity, that to me is really important. We were able to find a way to make a play." Ahmad Bradshaw has a team-high 818 yards on the ground and leads the squad with seven touchdowns, but the senior quarterback has only completed 7-of-30 passing attempts this year.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Army handed Temple a 28-13 loss in last year's season opener. Andy Davidson rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns and the Golden Knights ran for 329 as a team.

    2. Army needs one win to become bowl eligibile. The team has not made a bowl game in back-to-back seasons since 1984 and 1985.

    3. Marchi is coming off back-to-back 300-yard passing games for the first time in his career.

    Preview: Tulsa at Connecticut
    Gracenote
    Oct 18, 2017

Connecticut won a road game for the first time in nearly two years when it traveled to Philadelphia and upset Temple in an American Athletic Conference game last week. The Huskies will try to make it two wins in a row Saturday when they host Tulsa, which pulled off a stunner of its own last week against Houston.

Bryant Shirreffs threw for three touchdowns as Connecticut held off Temple 28-24 to end an eight-game skid in conference play. A week after being manhandled by Tulane, the Golden Hurricane -- a two-touchdown underdog -- shocked Houston 45-17. Tulsa trailed the Cougars 10-0 before getting two touchdowns from Chad President on the way to its first AAC victory. The Huskies and Golden Hurricane rank among the nation's worst defenses, allowing a combined 80.4 points per game.
TV: Noon ET, ESPNU. LINE: Tulsa -6

ABOUT TULSA (2-5, 1-2 AAC): The Hurricane rushed for 288 yards against Houston led by D'Angelo Brewer, who racked up 140 yards and a touchdown. “You don’t take anything for granted, especially not with what we’ve been through earlier this season,” Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery told reporters, referring to his team's pair of last-second setbacks earlier in the campaign. The Hurricane enter the contest with the worst rushing defense in the nation, allowing an average of 319 yards a game.
ABOUT UCONN (2-4, 1-3): Still hampered by an ankle injury, wide receiver Hergy Mayala gave the Huskies a boost with his return to the lineup by grabbing four passes for 28 yards and a score against Temple. Despite the three touchdown passes, Shirreffs had a season-low 105 passing yards and the Huskies continue to be torched through the air. Temple quarterback Logan Marchi threw for 356 yards on 54 attempts against UConn, which ranks last in the NCAA by allowing 392.5 passing yards per game.

    EXTRA POINTS
    1. UConn hasn't won two straight since netting a three-game winning streak in 2015.
    2. In 33 games under Montgomery, Tulsa has scored more than 40 points 20 times and has posted a 16-4 record when doing so.
    3. Tulsa is 0-3 on the road this season, getting outscored 175-103.

    Preview: Oklahoma State at Texas
    Gracenote
    Oct 18, 2017

Eleventh-ranked Oklahoma State was a trendy pick to make the four-team College Football Playoff before getting upset by Big 12 leader TCU (44-31) on Sept. 23. The Cowboys, in a five-team logjam for second place in the conference, will now find out if they are contenders or pretenders during a brutal three-game stretch that begins Saturday at Texas.

If Oklahoma State can win in Austin -- a big if considering the Longhorns had ninth-ranked Oklahoma on the ropes last week before losing, 29-24, and also gave then-No. 4 USC all it could handle before losing 27-24 in double overtime -- the Cowboys then travel to West Virginia before returning home for their Bedlam rivalry game with the Sooners. "You'd prefer to not have two or three physical games back-to-back," Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy told The Oklahoman. "That's not going to happen to us. (Texas) is very physical. West Virginia is very physical. I haven't really seen OU much, but athletically they're going to be able to run around and hit you enough." Texas, meanwhile, will try and move on from a tough Red River Showdown loss to the Sooners. "It stings worse than most losses do," Texas coach Tom Herman said. "But we also understand that we're one of a bunch of one-loss teams in this conference, and for us to maintain that level and status within our conference, we've got to win this week. We've got to go 1-0 this week."

TV: Noon, ABC. LINE: Oklahoma State -7

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (5-1, 2-1 Big 12): The Cowboys are coming off a record-setting offensive performance, gaining a school-record 747 yards in a 59-16 rout of Baylor. Quarterback Mason Rudolph passed for 459 yards and four touchdowns while senior wide receiver James Washington had six catches for 235 yards -- an eye-popping 39.2-yard average. Linebacker Justin Phillips forced two fumbles and finished with six tackles, including 2.5 for losses, in the win.

ABOUT TEXAS (3-3, 2-1): With star left tackle Connor Williams still sidelined with a knee injury, the Longhorns have struggled to put together a consistent run game and are averaging just 169.7 yards per game on the ground with freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger leading the squad in both carries (68) and yards per game (67.8). He threw for 278 yards and touchdown while also rushing 22 times for 110 yards in the loss to Oklahoma, and the concern is how long he can physically maintain that load on the ground. The Longhorns have one of the top defenses in the Big 12, especially against the run allowing just 116.7 yards per game, while safety DeShon Elliott leads the secondary with five interceptions which tops the Big 12 and ties him for the national lead.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Oklahoma State leads the nation in total offense (610.7) and passing offense (411.2) and is second in scoring offense (48.8).

    2. Rudolph has thrown for at least 300 yards in seven straight games, the longest active streak in FBS.

    3. Texas leads the nation in net punting (44.81 yards).

    Preview: Idaho at Missouri
    Gracenote
    Oct 19, 2017

Missouri hopes to snap its five-game losing streak when it gets a break from the SEC grind to host Idaho on Saturday. The Tigers are winless against FBS opponents this season, while the Vandals have recorded only one victory versus an FBS foe – a double-overtime triumph at South Alabama.

Both teams desperately need a win to preserve their razor-thin bowl hopes as the programs meet for the third time – and the first since 1963. Coach Barry Odom reportedly set ablaze scouting reports, game plans and other materials related to the Tigers’ first six games during a team meeting on Sunday, trying to send his squad a message to forget the past. Missouri’s offense has shown signs of life, and the team has two straight winnable non-conference games before finishing with four SEC clashes – none of which are against opponents that currently are above .500. The Vandals have lost two straight by a combined eight points, while each of their last four games have been decided by single digits.

TV: Noon ET, SEC Network. LINE: Missouri -14.5

ABOUT IDAHO (2-4): The Vandals blew a 17-0 halftime lead to Appalachian State last week, but their defense has been stout - especially against the pass. Idaho ranks sixth in the nation in pass defense, allowing 162.3 yards per game, and has held four of its six opponents under 200 yards passing. The offense has been fairly balanced, but Sun Belt leading rusher Aaron Duckworth (552 yards) is the biggest threat for a unit that has yet to score 30 points in a game.

ABOUT MISSOURI (1-5): The Tigers have shown signs of life over the last two games, especially on offense. Drew Lock and the passing game have returned to the form that made Missouri a dangerous opponent at the end of last season, and the club traded touchdowns for most of the first half before fading in a 53-28 loss at Georgia last week. Missouri’s biggest concern is that the defense hasn’t been able to stop anyone, allowing at least 30 points in each game - including a season-opening 72-43 win over FCS opponent Missouri State.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Idaho is 0-8 all-time against current SEC schools.

    2. Missouri WR Emanuel Hall has made eight catches for 270 yards and three touchdowns over the last two games and is averaging 28.77 yards per reception, the best mark in the nation.

    3. Missouri RB Damarea Crockett was limited in practice after leaving the Georgia game with a shoulder injury but is expected to start.

    Preview: Pittsburgh at Duke
    Gracenote
    Oct 18, 2017

Teams in search of a much-needed win and better quarterback play meet Saturday when Pittsburgh meets Duke in an ACC Coastal Division matchup. The Panthers have dropped five of six since an opening-week victory over FCS foe Youngstown State, while the Blue Devils have dropped three straight conference games after opening the season with four wins by a combined 101 points.

Pittsburgh routed Duke 56-14 last season behind 237 yards passing and three touchdowns from current Buffalo Bills backup quarterback Nathan Peterman, but the Panthers have not received consistent play from either injured Max Browne or sophomore Ben DiNucci this season. The two have combined for just eight touchdown passes and 1,609 yards passing, opening the door for freshman Kenny Pickett to play in the second half of last week’s 35-17 loss to North Carolina State. During the Blue Devils’ season-opening four-game winning streak, sophomore Daniel Jones completed 62 percent of his passes for an average of 226 yards per game with five touchdowns against two interceptions. In the last three contests, the 6-5 signal-caller has completed just 48.3 percent of his passes for an average of 165 yards per game with one TD against three picks.

TV: 12:20 p.m. ET, ACC Network. LINE: Duke -8.

ABOUT PITTSBURGH (2-5, 0-3 ACC): With Browne out for the season with a shoulder injury, DiNucci (55-of-97, 612 yards, three TDs, three interceptions) will remain the starter against the Blue Devils, but Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi knows the sophomore needs help. The Panthers have rushed for a combined total of 433 yards in their last five games after breaking out for 363 yards in the first two games of the season. “It's not just quarterbacks. We've got to help (Ben) out with some run game," Narduzzi told the media this week. “We talk way too much about the quarterback. There's some other things that we should be talking about, too. We've got to find a way to rush for 150 this week to have an opportunity to win the football game. We've got to go back to basics and we've got to get it.”

ABOUT DUKE (4-3, 1-3): With Jones struggling, the Blue Devils may want to use senior running back Shaun Wilson more, as the senior has averaged 5.4 yards per rush during the losing skid but has toted the ball on average less than 10 times per game. Sophomore defensive back Mark Gilbert leads the team with four interceptions - tied for fifth in FBS - and the team’s total of 12 is two more than they registered in the entire 2016 campaign and tied for second in FBS. The defense ranks 19th in FBS in total defense (313 yards per game), including 16th against the run (108), so Narduzzi may have a hard time reaching his goal of 150 yards rushing Saturday.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Pittsburgh leads the all-time series 12-9.

    2. During the game, former Duke coach and Heisman Trophy winner Steve Spurrier will be honored on the field in recognition of his upcoming enshrinement as a coach into the College Football Hall of Fame.

    3. Among the 22 starting positions listed in Pitt's probable lineup, only six are occupied by seniors (four on offense and two defense).

    Preview: Boston College at Virginia
    Gracenote
    Oct 18, 2017

Virginia aims for its first five-game winning streak in 10 years when it hosts Boston College and surging running back A.J. Dillon in an ACC clash Saturday afternoon. Dillon erupted for 272 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a surprise 45-42 win at Louisville last week, posting the third-highest single-game total in program history and the most ever for a freshman.

He will take aim at a defense that is allowing 312.8 total yards per game - the third-fewest among ACC teams - and let up just 257 in last week's 20-14 win at North Carolina. That result put the Cavaliers one win away from bowl eligibility for the first time since 2011 and provided another week of legitimate buzz on campus. "Professors are nicer to you, students are nicer to you," linebacker Micah Kiser told The Daily Progress. "[They say], 'Great game, you guys are doing a nice job.' People working at Subway or Chick-fil-A, you see the smile on their faces. 'Great job guys.' Walking around Charlottesville everywhere, you hear, 'You guys are doing a really good job, keep it up.' Everybody loves a winner, so hopefully we'll keep winning." The Eagles are the only ACC team that Virginia has never beaten, having dropped each of the first five meetings, the last coming in 2010 at Boston College.

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, RSN. LINE: Virginia -7

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (3-4, 1-3 ACC): Starting quarterback Anthony Brown completed 5-of-17 passes before being knocked out of the win at Louisville with a shoulder injury, and backup Darius Wade went 7-for-10 to help finish the upset. "As I said from day one, I have confidence in both guys," head coach Steve Addazio told reporters when asked who would start Saturday. "So, we'll see how Anthony is feeling and where he's at, and I don't have the read on that right now, but there's no more to that." Dillon and junior Jon Hilliman have combined for 967 rushing yards and nine TDs for the league's fifth-rated ground game.

ABOUT VIRGINIA (5-1, 2-0): Benkert ranks second in the league behind Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson with 15 TD passes and he's thrown just three interceptions in 248 attempts. He has plenty of targets, as three Cavaliers have at least 377 receiving yards and four TDs, led by junior running back Olamide Zaccheaus, who needs 32 yards to move into the top 20 all-time at Virginia. Safety Quin Blanding leads all active FBS players in career tackles (419) while Kiser ranks sixth (329) after the pair combined for 18 against North Carolina.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Benkert (4,232 career passing yards) needs two yards to move alone into 10th place on the school's career passing list and 135 to take over ninth.

    2. Brown has completed 18-of-47 passes over the last two games and ranks last among qualified passers in the ACC with a completion percentage of 51.2.

    3. Virginia last won at least five in a row in 2007, when it reeled off seven straight.
