    The Walker Group Picks

    # 8 GIVINITALITTLEEFFORT 3/1

    # 3 REGAL IVORY 5/1

    # 2 BO TRAFFIC 9/2

GIVINITALITTLEEFFORT looks to be a formidable contender. Had one of the most favorable Equibase Speed Figs of this group in his last contest. Solid pick to take this race going in a short. This lot is much less demanding than the last one he ran against. REGAL IVORY - Has to be carefully examined here on the basis of the figs in the speed realm alone. Will most likely come out strong - I have liked the way this gelding has moved promptly to the lead recently. BO TRAFFIC - Is a strong contender based on figures put up lately under today's conditions. He has a solid distance/surface win record - 2 for 9.

NBA (703) CHICAGO BULLS VS (704) ORLANDO MAGIC

    Take: UNDER

Reason: Your free play for Friday, November 3 is in the NBA contest between the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic. Chicago looks for its first win on the road this season against three losses. The Bulls are 1-5 overall and 0-3 away, but have covered four of six games. The Magic are 6-2 S/U and a perfect 3-0 S/U at home. Fourth pick Aaron Gordon is playing great, shooting 60.9% from the field over the last five games. The struggling Bulls bright spot is Rookie 7-foot-0 forward Lauri Markkanen, who had a season best 25 points last time and is averaging 17.2 ppg. The Magic have gone UNDER in 14 of their last 20 against the NBA Central. The Bulls are 1-4 O/U their last five overall. In addition, the last four meetings between these teams in Orlando have gone UNDER and the last seven in the series have gone UNDER. Play the UNDER here on Friday.

    Raptors vs. Jazz
    Raptors+1½

The Toronto Raptors took a 129-111 beating at Denver on Wednesday, and that can't sit right with this talented Raptors side. "That was an embarrassing performance by all of us, from coaches to players," coach Dwane Casey told reporters in Denver. "One thing we said: You've got to come in here and compete and play hard, play a physical game, and we didn't do either one on either end of the floor."
I think the Jazz will pay the price as Toronto looks to bounce when it closes out a six-game road trip at Salt Lake City Friday night. Utah could be due for a clunker after reeling off three straight wins, including a dramatic come-from-behind 112-103 OT win against Portland its last time out.
Raptors are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings including 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Utah.

    Celtics vs. Thunder
    Thunder-5½ -115

When the new Big 3 was assembled in Oklahoma City, it figured that Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony would grind teams into the hardwood with relentless offense. But OKC has made its mark with defense, and the Thunder will battle another early-season defensive titan tonight when they take on the Celtics. In fact, Boston and OKC are 1-2 in the league in defense so far this season. The Thunder will be a major test for Boston, whose wins have come against teams with only one major scoring threat (Embiid, Andrich, Antetokounmpo, Porzingis). Look for OKC's three-pronged attack to bring Boston down a notch as the Celtics play the first of a three-games-in-four-days stretch.

Back in 1979 rocker John Stewart had an album called "Bombs Away Dream Babies", and that is how I see this Memphis-Tulsa game playing out tonight in Oklahoma. Points, points, points!

Both teams can score, and both teams choose the "no defense" or the "less is more" approach to the defensive side of the equation.

Memphis just hung 56-points on Tulane in a game that went Over. The Tigers are now Over in their last pair of games, and Over the total in 6 of 8 this year. Backtracking to last season, Memphis is 14-5 Over the total in their last 19 football games.

Tulsa hasn't been as "prolific" in going Over, as they have held Under in their last 3 and 5 of 6 overall, but the Golden Hurricane has played Overs in 5 of their last 6 Friday night games, and the series numbers show Overs in 3 straight and 5 of 7 dating back to 2005.

With the weather looking conducive for points, that's the way I will look.

Memphis-Tulsa "Bombs Away Dream Babies", as they head Over on Friday.

My free pick is for tonight is on the Orlando Magic over the Chicago Bulls.

My free play for tonight is from the NBA, where I'm playing the upstart Orlando Magic over the Chicago Bulls.

I gave you the Magic on Monday for a 1,000♦ winner, and told you specifically this team was much better than people think. Finally, the oddsmakers are giving them a little respect, as we see by this rather big number against the Bulls.

The Magic are off to their best start in eight seasons - 6-2 for the first time since the 2009-10 season - and rank second in scoring offense, averaging 114.9 points per game, behind the Golden State Warriors.

Orlando has scored at least 100 in all eight of its games this season, and tonight it will be energized for a Friday night home game against a team that has traditionally been considered an Eastern Conference contender.

We saw the Magic step up in a 114-93 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, and later in a 114-87 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Now Orlando returns home after closing a three-game road trip with two wins - over the New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies - and will be ready for its homecoming.

Orlando is 3-0 at home, and its 3-point prowess will continue to shine tonight.

Meanwhile, the new-look Bulls are 1-5 for the first time since 2007-08 and have failed to cover six of their last seven visits to Orlando.

    Take the home team.

    5* MAGIC

Philly hosts indiana and both teams are hot coming into this matchup with three straight wins vs quality opponents. The Pacers beat the Spurs at home and the Cavaliers on the road, while Philadelphia knocked off the Rockets on the road. Those are all extremely impressive wins.

The bottom line in this game is while mostly the talent is evenly matched, Embiid is the premier big man in this game. Besides, the fact that Turner is still up in the air about returning from his concussion, you have to give a big advantage the 76ers here at home.

A look inside the number shows more evidence to this. Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. 76ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win. 76ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 1 day of rest.

    Bet the Sixers.

When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, November 3, 2017
    Where: Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, Oklahoma

    Preview: Memphis at Tulsa

    Gracenote
    Oct 31, 2017

Points should come fast and furious when No. 21 Memphis plays at Tulsa on Friday in an American Athletic Conference game. The Tigers and the Golden Hurricane are among the top scoring teams in the country and have a history of playing high scoring contests.

Led by the duo of quarterback Riley Ferguson and wide receiver Anthony Miller, the Tigers have won four straight games to become ranked for the first time this season and in the process, have made the 2017 class the winningest in Memphis history at 34-13. Ferguson is tied for fifth nationally in touchdown passes with 23 and ninth in passing yards while Miller ranks in the top five in receptions, yards and touchdowns. The Golden Hurricane are going the other way with losses in six of their last seven games, but did hand the Tigers their most lopsided defeat 59-30 last season. In the last three meetings, the two teams have combined for 257 points and the winning team has scored at least 33 in seven straight matchups.

    TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN2. Line: Memphis -12

ABOUT MEMPHIS (7-1, 4-1 AAC): While Ferguson, Miller and other offensive stalwarts such as Phil Mayhue, Tony Pollard and Darrell Henderson have dominated the headlines, the defense has been garnering some accolades for the Tigers. Senior linebacker Genard Avery became the third Memphis player to be named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week after registering career-highs with 3.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss against Tulane. Freshman T.J. Carter and sophomore Austin Hall have also won the award this season for Mike Norvell, whose 15 wins are the most for a coach in his first two seasons in Memphis history.

ABOUT TULSA (2-7, 1-4): Despite spotty quarterback play, D'Angelo Brewer has still been able to churn out 122.5 running yards per game, good for second in the conference. The senior produced his fifth 100-yard game of the season and 14th of his career in last week's loss to Southern Methodist and needs 281 yards to pass Tarrion Adams as the school's all-time leading rusher. After posting a pair of solid efforts, freshman quarterback Luke Skipper completed fewer than 40 percent of his passes while rushing for a career-high 65 yards against SMU, which was the Golden Hurricane's fifth this season by 10 points or fewer.

    EXTRA POINTS

    1. Miller, who holds the school record with 29 career touchdown receptions, moved into the top spot in receiving yards (2,987) during last week's win over Tulane and is poised to do the same in receptions.

    2. Memphis is 13-0 since 2014 when playing a regular season game Thursday or Friday.

    3. The 2015 meeting, which was won 66-42 by the Tigers, featured the most combined points in Memphis history.

    PREDICTION: Memphis 63, Tulsa 34

When: 9:30 PM ET, Friday, November 3, 2017
Where: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah

    Preview: UCLA at Utah

    Gracenote
    Oct 31, 2017

Once-promising seasons have dissolved into all-out bowl-eligibility fights for UCLA and Utah with both entering November with .500 records. The final four-game stretch run for each begins Friday night as the Utes host the Bruins in Salt Lake City.

Utah has dropped four straight since a 4-0 start, with the last two defeats being blowout losses to Arizona State (30-10) and Oregon (41-20). As a result, the Utes find themselves alone in the Pac-12 South Division basement at 1-4, and coach Kyle Whittingham says his team has reached a true crossroads. “We’re 4-4 with four to go, and we can go one of two directions,” Whittingham said Monday at his weekly news conference. “We can either continue to take our lumps and not play as well as we need to, or we can get back on track and get back to playing the way we know we’re capable of playing.” The sentiment is the same at UCLA as the Bruins have lost four of six since a 2-0 start, including double-digit conference losses to Stanford (58-34), Arizona (47-30) and, most recently, Washington (44-23).
    TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, FS1. LINE: Utah -6

ABOUT UCLA (4-4, 2-3 Pac-12): The Bruins would appear to be largely out of luck unless they can find some sort of fix for the nation’s worst run defense, which has been trampled for an average of 307.1 yards per game, 6.05 yards per carry and 23 touchdowns. In UCLA’s three Pac-12 defeats, the damage was even worse with Stanford, Arizona and Washington averaging 398.3 ground yards and totaling 14 rushing TDs. UCLA counters with one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Josh Rosen, who has a 145.8 rating and leads the conference with 339.1 passing yards per game, and senior wide receiver Darren Andrews, who is pacing the Pac-12 with nine TD grabs and ranks third with 88.4 yards per outing.
ABOUT UTAH (4-4, 1-4): The Utes hope to slow Rosen with the Pac-12’s fourth-ranked pass defense (199.1 yards), which has allowed only nine TD passes while totaling 10 interceptions. Dual-threat sophomore quarterback Tyler Huntley has played the last two games after sitting out two contests with a shoulder injury, and rebounded from a four-interception outing against Arizona State with 339 total yards of offense, two TDs and no picks in the loss to Oregon. Linebacker Sunia Tauteoli ranks ninth in the Pac-12 with 8.5 tackles for loss, but the Utes are trying to shore up their own run defense after getting gashed for a season-high 347 yards by running back Royce Freeman and Oregon.

    EXTRA POINTS
    1. UCLA leads the series 11-4, but the two teams have split their six meetings since Utah joined the Pac-12 in 2011. The Utes prevailed in a 52-45 shootout last season in Los Angeles.
    2. The contest will serve as Utah’s 10th annual Blackout Game, and while the Utes own a 7-2 record in such contests, one of their losses was to the Bruins in 2013.
    3. Utah is tied for eighth nationally with 19 takeaways and owns a plus-3 turnover differential while UCLA is 11th in the conference with a minus-7 turnover margin.

    PREDICTION: Utah 36, UCLA 31

    Preview: Devils at Oilers

    Gracenote
    Nov 3, 2017

Friday's matchup pitting the New Jersey Devils against the host Edmonton Oilers features one team off to its franchise-best record after 11 games versus another that resides second to last in its respective conference. The surprising tales of the upstart Devils and leaking Oilers will be on display when the clubs meet at Rogers Place.

Cory Schneider turned aside all 37 shots he faced in Wednesday's 2-0 victory versus his former team of Vancouver to improve New Jersey's unblemished road record to 5-0-0, marking the second time in franchise history that it has won its first five games away from the Garden State. The 31-year-old has won four straight starts overall and owns a stellar 7-3-2 career mark versus Edmonton with two shutouts and a rail-thin 1.72 goals-against average in 14 career appearances. While the Devils have been ascending in the Eastern Conference standings, the Oilers - a trendy Stanley Cup pick by several publications - have dropped two in a row on their five-game homestand and eight of 10 overall. "Honest to God, I have nothing left to say. We just have to find ways to win hockey games right now," Patrick Maroon told reporters following Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, NHL Network, MSG-Plus (New Jersey), Sportsnet, TVA (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE DEVILS (9-2-0): Brian Boyle did not dent the scoresheet in his season debut, but the very fact that he was on the ice after being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia speaks volumes. "The guys in here, the last six weeks, whether they know it or not ... it's just been a tremendous boost of energy for me. I can't thank them enough," said the 32-year-old Boyle, who logged 15:19 of ice time in his first game since April 23. Former Oiler Taylor Hall had a pair of assists versus Vancouver to give him 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in the past six games.

ABOUT THE OILERS (3-7-1): Reigning Hart Trophy recipient Connor McDavid extended his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists) by setting up a pair of tallies on Wednesday and has four assists in three career encounters with New Jersey. While McDavid has been an offensive force, the rest of his team would have trouble making that same claim as it is averaging an NHL-worst 2.2 goals per contest this season and has two tallies or fewer in eight of 11 contests this season. A porous penalty kill isn't helping matters as Edmonton yielded two power-play goals to the Penguins to drop its season percentage to an NHL second-worst 68.3 percent heading into Thursday's action.

    OVERTIME

    1. Edmonton C Leon Draisaitl scored on Wednesday to extend his point streak to three games (one goal, four assists).

    2. Devils F Jimmy Hayes recorded his second goal and third point in three games on Wednesday, but has been held off the scoresheet in each of his last five encounters with the Oilers.

    3. Edmonton G Cam Talbot has dropped his last two starts in his bid for his 100th career win.

    PREDICTION: Oilers 3, Devils 2
