    CFL Playoff Results

The matchups for this Sunday’s CFL Division Finals have been set following last Sunday’s playoff action in the division semifinals.

Saskatchewan pulled off a 31-20 upset against Ottawa as a 2 ½-point road underdog in the East and Edmonton added another victory for the road team in its 39-32 win against Winnipeg in the West as a three-point favorite.

    Sunday, Nov. 19

    East Division Finals (ESPN2, 1:00 p.m. ET)

Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-8 SU, 11-8 ATS) at Toronto Argonauts (9-9 SU, 8-10 ATS)

    Point-spread: Toronto -1 ½
    Total: 53

    Game Overview

The Roughriders return to the postseason was on the heels of a straight-up 4-2 run in their final six games to secure a crossover position in the playoffs. They are now just one win away from a spot in the Grey Cup Final after getting past Ottawa on the road last Sunday. Saskatchewan is 6-4 against the spread on the road this season and it has gone 7-4 ATS when closing as an underdog. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in eight of its last nine games.

In last Sunday’s victory at Ottawa, Kevin Glenn played one of his most complete games of the season as the Roughriders’ quarterback. He connected on 18 of his 28 passing attempts for 252 yards and a score against zero turnovers, while Marcus Thigpen racked-up 169 yards and a score on the ground on 15 carries. Saskatchewan averaged 28.3 points per game in the regular season.

Toronto needed a victory against British Columbia on the road as a two-point favorite in its final regular season game to clinch the East Division title. The Argonauts came through in a big way by trouncing the Lions 40-13. They went 5-2 both straight-up and against the spread in their last seven games with the total going OVER or ending as a PUSH in each of those contests. They are 4-5 ATS in nine previous home games this season.

Veteran quarterback Ricky Ray was one of the most prolific passers in the CFL this season with 5,546 yards and 28 touchdown throws against 11 interceptions. He completed an impressive 70.1 percent of his 668 passing attempts for an average of 8.3 yards a reception. His top target was SJ Green with 1,462 receiving yards and 11 scores while James Wilder led the ground game with 872 rushing yards.

    Betting Trends

-- Saskatchewan has covered in four of its last five games against Toronto and it has gone 5-1 ATS in its last six road games against the Argonauts. The Roughriders swept the season series both SU and ATS with the total staying UNDER 52 in a 27-24 road win at Toronto as two-point underdogs on Oct. 7.

West Division Final (ESPNews, 4:30 p.m. ET)

Edmonton Eskimos (13-6 SU, 9-10 ATS) at Calgary Stampeders (13-4-1 SU, 9-8-1 ATS)

    Point-spread: Calgary -5
    Total: 51 ½

    Game Overview

The peaks and valleys of Edmonton’s 2017 season have been a bit extreme with a seven-game winning streak followed by six losses in a row. The Eskimos are definitely headed in the right direction at the right time of the year with a SU six-game winning streak while going 5-1 ATS. The total went OVER 55 points in Sunday’s win at Winnipeg and it has gone OVER in four of the Eskimos’ last six games.

Mike Reilly has been at the top of the list in the CFL all year long when it comes to moving the ball down the field through the air after ending the regular season with a CFL-high 5,830 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes on 447 completions. In Sunday’s division semifinal, he lit up the Bombers with 334 yards passing and three scoring strikes including a pair to wide receiver Adarius Bowman. Brandon Zylstra led the way with eight receptions for 156 yards and a score.

After dominating play for most of the season, there has to be some concern with Calgary’s three-game losing streak (SU and ATS) to close out the regular season. After failing to cover in a tight three-point win against Edmonton on Sept. 9 as six-point road favorites, the Stampeders are just 3-5 ATS over their last eight games. The total stayed UNDER in six of those eight outings. Calgary is 6-3 ATS on its home field this year.

The week off should hopefully help to get things back in order for Bo Levi Mitchell and a Stampeders’ offense that was second in the CFL in points scored (523). This unit was averaging 32.7 points per game before posting a combined 32 points in its last three contests. Mitchell was third in the CFL in passing yards (4,700) and he tossed 23 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Jerome Messam was third in the league in rushing with 1,016 yards on 215 carries.

    Betting Trends

-- Calgary has won 13 of the last 19 meetings in this bitter West Division rivalry and it has a 5-1 edge ATS in its last six home games against the Eskimos. The Stampeders had the 2-1 SU edge in the season series, but Edmonton went 2-1 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in two of the three games.

    Preview: Islanders at Hurricanes

    Gracenote
    Nov 19, 2017

The New York Islanders hope to remain in high gear offensively as they seek their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. The Islanders posted a 5-3 triumph at Tampa Bay on Saturday, giving them a total of 16 goals during their three-game winning streak.

Anders Lee has been a big contributor for New York as he recorded his third two-goal performance of the season Saturday for his third straight two-point effort. The Islanders aren't the only team in Sunday's matchup that is finding its touch around the net, as the Hurricanes have scored at least three goals in each of their last six games. Sebastian Aho snapped a tie with 4:45 remaining in the third period Saturday and Carolina went on to post a 3-1 victory at Buffalo. The 20-year-old Finnish forward has recorded a goal in three straight contests after beginning the season with a 15-game drought.

TV: 5 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New York), FSN Carolinas

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (11-6-2): Josh Bailey collected three assists against the Lightning, giving him a team-leading 19 on the season. The 28-year-old also tops the club with 23 points after registering five over his last two contests. Captain John Tavares produced a goal and two assists Saturday and is one tally away from 250 for his career.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (8-6-4): Teuvo Teravainen notched an assist against the Sabres, giving him seven points over his last three games and a team-leading 16 overall. Marcus Kruger made a successful return to the lineup Saturday as he registered a pair of assists after missing Thursday's contest due to an illness. The 27-year-old Swede, who spent his first seven NHL campaigns with Chicago, had recorded one assist over the first 16 games of his initial season with Carolina.

    OVERTIME

    1. The Islanders posted a 6-4 home victory over Carolina on Thursday.

    2. Hurricanes LW Jeff Skinner tops the club with nine goals and looks to reach double digits for the eighth time in as many seasons in the NHL.

    3. New York RW Cal Clutterbuck hopes to return to the lineup after missing Saturday's game with an illness.

    Preview: Avalanche at Red Wings

    Gracenote
    Nov 19, 2017

The Detroit Red Wings have turned things around since suffering through a six-game losing streak late in October and hope to continue the positive trend when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. The Red Wings have won two in a row after a 3-1 triumph against Buffalo on Friday and boast at least a point in seven of their last nine contests (6-2-1).

“We had a stretch when we were playing pretty well and losing, and we had to talk about it,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told reporters. “This is a hard league, and you’ve got to be great to win. We’ve done a pretty good job of that, but we have to keep it going.” The Red Wings are getting strong goaltending and have improved on the power play (8-for-20, last seven games) as they prepare to face the Avalanche, who dropped a 5-2 decision at Nashville on Saturday. Colorado had gone 9-for-26 on the power play over the previous seven games, but went scoreless on seven opportunities against the Predators. “There’s a reason why they went to the Stanley Cup final last year,” Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog told reporters. “If we score on the power play in the first period to take the lead I think it would have been a different game. … Just a missed opportunity there - basically the whole first period we had a man-advantage and just didn’t capitalize.”

TV: 6 p.m. ET, Altitude (Colorado), FSN Detroit

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (9-8-1): The top line of Landeskog (team-high eight goals), Nathan MacKinnon (team-best 20 points) and Mikko Rantanen had been red hot lately, but were kept off the scoresheet by Nashville. Defenseman Tyson Barrie returned to the lineup after missing one game with an upper-body injury and had three shots in 20:53 of ice time Saturday. Rookie forward Alexander Kerfoot notched a pair of assists against Nashville and boasts nine points (four goals) in the last six games to push his season total to 15 while carrying a plus-5 rating.

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (10-8-2): Dylan Larkin has notched two goals and a pair of assists in the last two games to tie Anthony Mantha for the team lead in points with 19 while defenseman Mike Green boasts 17 after recording four assists in the last four contests. Green reportedly was paired at practice Saturday with fellow defenseman Danny DeKeyser, who is expected to return Sunday after missing the last 17 games with an ankle injury. Goalie Jimmy Howard continues to string together solid performances, allowing eight goals over his last five games (3-1-1).

    OVERTIME

    1. Colorado D Andrei Mironov registered his first career two-point game Saturday with a goal and an assist.

    2. Detroit C Frans Nielsen needs one point to reach 400 in his career and has five in his last six contests.

    3. The Red Wings have gained at least a point in 10 of the last 11 meetings, but lost 3-1 to the Avalanche at home last season.

PREDICTION: Avalanche 4, Red Wings 3

    Preview: Senators at Rangers

    Gracenote
    Nov 18, 2017

The New York Rangers look to avoid a three-game slide and gain a little bit of revenge against the team that knocked them out of the 2016-17 playoffs when they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night. The Rangers lost in six games to Ottawa in the second round last season and face the Senators for the first time since that setback after following up six straight wins with losses to Chicago and Columbus.

“At the end of the day, it’s not good enough,” New York forward Mats Zuccarello told reporters after the Rangers were outshot 42-36 at Columbus in a 2-0 loss on Friday. “We have to create more. We have to get on the inside, get some pucks through, and make some plays.” New York will try to limit the shots after allowing 85 the last two games and win for the sixth straight time at home while Ottawa looks to avoid a third consecutive setback. The Senators have managed only three wins in their last eight games (3-3-2) after coughing up a lead and dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Arizona on Saturday afternoon - their sixth loss in eight games decided after regulation. Right wing Mark Stone scored his sixth goal in six games Saturday for Ottawa and leads the team with 13.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA (Ottawa), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE SENATORS (8-4-6): Matt Duchene has yet to record a point and owns a minus-5 rating in four games since coming over from Colorado in a blockbuster three-team deal, but has registered 20 shots on net. Erik Karlsson, who is second on the team with 17 points, has been kept off the scoresheet in the last two contests after recording 11 during a seven-game point streak. Goalie Craig Anderson, who was rested Saturday and is expected to start Sunday, is 10-5-3 with a 1.74 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in his career versus the Rangers.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (9-9-2): New York averaged 4.3 goals during its winning streak, but has been held to three total the last two and came up empty on six power-play opportunities. Center Mika Zibanejad leads the team with nine goals and 19 points - five coming in the last five games - and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk is next with 17 with 10 coming in the past nine contests. Rick Nash picked up his production after a slow start with four goals in his past four games while fellow forward J.T. Miller has gone without a point during the same stretch.

    OVERTIME

    1. Ottawa D Chris Wideman is out indefinitely after suffering a torn hamstring Thursday against Pittsburgh.

    2. New York D Brendan Smith returned to the lineup Friday after being a healthy scratch the last six contests.

    3. The Senators also took two of three from the Rangers in the regular season in 2016-17.

    PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Senators 3

    Preview: Kings at Golden Knights

    Gracenote
    Nov 19, 2017

Less than 24 hours after ending their four-game losing streak, the Los Angeles Kings take on a team that has been sensational at home when they visit the expansion Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles avoided being swept on its five-game homestand on Saturday by posting a 4-0 victory over Florida.

Tyler Toffoli recorded a goal and an assist while Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves en route to his eighth career shutout as the Kings fell two tallies shy of matching their total during the slide. Vegas trails Los Angeles by only three points thanks in part to an impressive 7-1-0 record at home. The Golden Knights enter Sunday's contest with a six-game winning streak at T-Mobile Arena and are coming off a 5-2 triumph at Vancouver on Thursday that halted their three-game skid on the road. David Perron leads Vegas in scoring (17 points) as he has collected two goals and seven assists during his six-game point streak.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas)

ABOUT THE KINGS (12-6-2): Anze Kopitar had his career-high point streak halted at 10 games as he was kept off the scoresheet by the Panthers. The 30-year-old Slovenian captain, who leads Los Angeles with 23 points, collected three goals and nine assists during his run. Jonny Brodzinski became the fifth rookie on the team to net his first career goal on Saturday, tallying in his 11th NHL game to join Alex Iafallo, Michael Amadio and defensemen Kurtis MacDermid and Oscar Fantenberg.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (11-6-1): After having to rely on the fourth goaltender on its depth chart (Maxime Lagace) for nearly three weeks, Vegas got its No. 2 back on Friday as it activated Malcolm Subban from injured reserve. The 23-year-old, who has missed 11 games with a lower-body injury, went 2-0-0 with a 2.06 goals-against average in three starts after being claimed off waivers from Boston on Oct. 3. Erik Haula has caught fire offensively, recording four goals and four assists over his last six contests after notching only three points in his first eight games.

    OVERTIME

    1. Golden Knights LW James Neal, who tops the club with 10 goals, has registered a point in five of his last six games (three tallies, two assists).

    2. Los Angeles LW Jussi Jokinen has recorded two assists in as many games since being acquired from Edmonton, where he notched one in 14 contests.

    3. With Subban back, Vegas assigned G Dylan Ferguson to Kamloops of the Western Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Kings 4, Golden Knights 2

    Preview: Panthers at Ducks

    Gracenote
    Nov 19, 2017

The Anaheim Ducks attempt to conclude their five-game homestand with a winning record when they host the Florida Panthers on Sunday. Anaheim, which had won just one of its previous five contests at Honda Center, improved to 2-1-1 on the current string with Wednesday's 4-2 triumph over Boston.

Rickard Rakell, who leads the Ducks in both goals (six) and points (15), has collected a goal and seven assists over his last six contests. Florida is wrapping up a California road trip on which it has ended up on both sides of a shutout. After blanking San Jose on Thursday, the Panthers suffered a 4-0 loss at Los Angeles two days later - their seventh setback in their last 10 overall games (3-5-2). Florida's top line has been in a slump of late, as the trio of Jonathan Huberdeau, Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov failed to record a point in three of the last four contests.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, Prime Ticket (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (7-10-2): Florida could be without Radim Vrbata as the veteran right wing was hit in the face with a puck less than two minutes into Saturday's loss and missed the rest of the game. The 36-year-old Czech has recorded three goals and eight assists over 19 contests in his first season with the club. Vincent Trocheck leads the team with eight tallies but is mired in a four-game drought, which followed a four-game goal-scoring streak.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (8-7-3): Injury-riddled Anaheim received some good news Saturday as defenseman Cam Fowler, who has been out since Oct. 20 with a knee injury, participated in a full practice and may be close to returning. Kevin Roy became the third member of the team to score his first career goal on Wednesday, doing so in his third NHL game to join Derek Grant and Kalle Kossila. Sami Vatanen is two points shy of tying Fredrik Olausson (127) for sixth place on the franchise list among defensemen.

    OVERTIME

    1. Anaheim will honor 2017 Hall-of-Fame inductees Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne during a pregame ceremony.

    2. Florida C Nick Bjugstad's next game will be the 300th of his NHL career while Ducks D Josh Manson will reach 200 with his next contest.

    3. Anaheim D Hampus Lindholm may return after missing Wednesday's contest due to a lower-body injury.

    PREDICTION: Ducks 3, Panthers 1
