    Pistons vs. Spurs
    Spurs-3½

Gregg Popovich is already starting to rest players. With a tough matchup against the Pistons and big man Andre Drummond on tap for tonight, LaMarcus Aldridge was held out of Sunday night’s game against Oklahoma City. The Spurs still played the Thunder tough (losing by 3), but it should pay benefits against the Pistons. Heading into Sunday, San Antonio had won four straight, and now the Spurs have held opponents to under 100 points in 7 of the last 10 games – and that’s without their best defensive player, injured forward Kawhi Leonard. SA should have enough to cover the 3.5.

NHL Monday Free Pick Boston Bruins Money Line (+) @ Nashville Predators @ 8:05 ET

Nashville has a big game with division rival Dallas tomorrow night. The Predators are also coming off of a win over Anaheim and that was a big game as they had battled the Ducks in the Western Conference Finals last season. This is a classic flat spot for the Preds here given the scheduling situation while the Bruins don't play again until Thursday at home against Arizona. Rest assured there is no lookahead for Boston here given that the league-worst Coyotes await 3 days away. The Bruins have won 6 of 7 and I love the small dog price here as many will grab the "bait" and take the Predators on home ice laying a small price. Nashville has lost 18 of 30 (-$12,000) in December action. The Bruins have won 30 of 48 (+$14,400) road games with a posted total of 5.5 goals. Free Pick on BOSTON

    Preview: Magic at Hornets

    Gracenote
    Dec 3, 2017

The slumping Charlotte Hornets could get leading scorer Kemba Walker back in the lineup Monday night when they host the Orlando Magic. Walker, who is averaging 22.3 points and scored 34 in a 120-113 victory over Orlando on Oct. 29, practiced fully on Sunday and is on track to return after missing the previous two games with a sore left shoulder.

Walker’s presence would be a welcome sight for the Hornets, who have dropped four in a row to fall below the Magic in the Southeast Division after Friday’s 105-100 setback at Miami in which they allowed 14 makes from 3-point range. “I’m good. Just get back out there and do what I do and be a leader. We’ve been struggling lately,” Walker told the Charlotte Observer. “I hate missing games. It was tough watching, especially because we lost.” Walker might be facing a rejuvenated Orlando team, which won for only the second time in 12 games after outlasting New York 105-100 on Sunday with 34 points and 12 rebounds from center Nikola Vucevic and just enough improvement on defense. “We’ve gotta start defending, even better than we did (Sunday),” Orlando coach Frank Vogel told reporters. “We made some progress (against the Knicks), but we’ve got to be better.”

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Orlando), FSN Southeast (Charlotte)

ABOUT MAGIC (10-14): Vucevic rebounded from a season-low six points against Golden State on Friday by draining 13-of-19 from the field against the Knicks while adding three assists and a pair of blocks. Aaron Gordon cooled off a bit with just 10 points Sunday after scoring 69 in the previous two combined and Evan Fournier has posted back-to-back 20-point outings for the first time since stringing six together from Oct. 24-Nov. 3. Point guard Elfrid Payton has shot at least 50 percent from the field in six straight games and is averaging 15.5 points during that stretch.

ABOUT HORNETS (8-13): Veteran center Dwight Howard saw his six-game streak of double-doubles end Friday as he was held to 10 points and nine boards, but is in the top 10 of the league in rebounding (12.5) and field-goal percentage (58 percent). Shooting guard Jeremy Lamb is second on the team in scoring (15.9) and Frank Kaminsky has made an impact off the bench this season, averaging 11 points (13.0 in the past three games). Marvin Williams poured in 16 points in Friday’s loss - his second-highest output this season - after averaging four the previous two games.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Charlotte has won eight straight meetings, scoring at least 107 points in all of them and 120 or more in four.

    2. The Hornets entered Sunday 28th in the league in free-throw shooting percentage (72.3).

    3. Orlando SG Terrence Ross, who is averaging nine points, missed the last two games and is out indefinitely with a sprained right MCL.

    PREDICTION: Hornets 111, Magic 100

    Preview: Knicks at Pacers

    Gracenote
    Dec 3, 2017

Victor Oladipo looks to follow up his best scoring night of the season and break his team out of a mini-slump when the Indiana Pacers host the injury-depleted New York Knicks on Monday. Oladipo scored 36 points on 14-of-22 shooting while adding seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks in Friday’s 120-115 setback at Toronto - the Pacers’ third loss in four contests.

“I was just trying to do whatever it takes to keep us going, to keep us in the game,” Oladipo, who is averaging 23.4 points in his first season with Indiana, told reporters after the defeat. “It was a tough loss. We have to learn from it.” The Pacers must be better inside after giving up 70 points in the paint Friday, but Indiana won’t have to face New York’s top two scorers. Kristaps Porzingis (25.8), who recorded 40 points in a 108-101 win over the Pacers on Nov. 5, missed Sunday’s loss to Orlando with an ankle injury while Tim Hardaway Jr. (17.8) sat out with a left leg ailment and the Knicks told reporters both won’t make the trip to Indiana. New York has dropped four of its last five contests overall and four straight on the road.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FSN Indiana

ABOUT THE KNICKS (11-11): Forward Michael Beasley scored 21 in the 105-100 loss to the Magic on Sunday - his second-highest total of the season - and Enes Kanter registered 18 points and 16 rebounds for his second straight double-double after missing the previous three games with injury. Courtney Lee added 19 points in the loss and is averaging 18.6 in his last five games while Lance Thomas came off the bench to score a season-high 11. The good news Sunday was rookie Frank Ntilikina returning to the lineup after missing just one game with an ankle injury and contributing nine points in 16 minutes.

ABOUT THE PACERS (12-11): Center Myles Turner has been bothered by a sore knee, but is still averaging 17.3 points over the last four games and is expected to be in the lineup against the Knicks. “I’ve got two days to recover, it’s a bruise, swelling wasn’t an issue,” Turner told the Indianapolis Star on Friday. “I pretty much knew I was going to play. It’s going to take way more than that to keep me out.” Bojan Bogdanovic (14.8 points) hopes to recover from a 2-for-11 shooting performance against Toronto and Domantas Sabonis (12.5 points, 8.7 rebounds) was 4-for-14 in the last two.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. New York’s rookie SG Damyean Dotson made his first start Sunday in Hardaway’s spot and scored two points in 22 minutes.

    2. The Knicks have won the last three meetings, including a 109-103 win at Indiana last January.

    3. Pacers PF Thaddeus Young is averaging 17.5 points on 17-of-28 from the field in his last two contests.

    PREDICTION: Pacers 112, Knicks 100

    Preview: Suns at 76ers

    Gracenote
    Dec 4, 2017

The Phoenix Suns and the Philadelphia 76ers are both trying to build young rosters into playoff contenders, one is just doing it better right now. The 76ers will try to continue their success at home when they host the Suns on Monday.

Philadelphia is 5-1 in its last six home games and only lost three times in its last 10 games overall -- to the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. "I think the thing that I most appreciate is the vocal side of this building, the ability to get low, get high, it really wears its heart on its sleeve," 76ers coach Brett Brown told reporters of the home arena. "We feel it. You're on the sideline, you feel it. To ultimately be able to close out a game, and give these amazingly passionate fans something to walk out of the building and be proud of is fantastic." The Suns fell to 1-3 on their six-game road trip with a 116-111 loss at Boston on Saturday and surrendered an average of 122 points in the three losses on the trip. Phoenix is last in the NBA in average points allowed (115.8) and allowed the Celtics to shoot 52.5 percent from the field.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Arizona (Phoenix), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE SUNS (8-16): Phoenix nearly erased a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter at Boston and feels like it missed an opportunity to knock off the team with the best record in the NBA. "We competed well, we've just got to not make mistakes and compete for more possessions than we did tonight," interim coach Jay Triano told reporters after the game. "It's just understanding the game and what's available and not making mistakes down the stretch. Our discipline has to be better." Shooting guard Devin Booker poured in 39 points on 16-of-29 shooting in Boston and is averaging 31 points on 55 percent shooting over the last three games.
ABOUT THE 76ERS (13-9): Philadelphia already seems to be preparing itself for a trip to the playoffs, and every win is part of a learning process that will help it in the spring. The 76ers rode 25 points and 10 rebounds from center Joel Embiid to a 108-103 win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, pulling it out in the fourth quarter after squandering a lead in the third. "That's a good win for us," Embiid told reporters. "Getting those wins against what could be (a playoff team) is always good, learning the style of play."

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Suns C Tyson Chandler grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds on Saturday in his second double-double of the season.

    2. 76ers rookie PG Ben Simmons scored five points on Saturday -- his first game scoring in single digits.

    3. Phoenix snapped a three-game losing streak in the series with a 123-116 home win over Philadelphia on Dec. 23, 2016.

    PREDICTION: 76ers 121, Suns 111

    Preview: Nets at Hawks

    Gracenote
    Dec 3, 2017

There have not been many positives for the Atlanta Hawks with just five wins in 22 games, but they will look to replicate their performance against the Brooklyn Nets in the second half of a home-and-home series Monday. After losing starting center Dewayne Dedmon on Wednesday and rookie standout John Collins a day later to injuries, the Hawks beat the Nets in Brooklyn 114-102 on Saturday as five Atlanta players scored in double figures.

“It’s a good win for us,” Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters after his team put away the victory with an 18-3 run after the Nets pulled within two points early in the fourth quarter. “To actually finish a game and get a win is good for our group.” The Nets fell for the fifth time in their past seven contests, committing 19 turnovers while struggling to contain Atlanta on defense. “I don’t think we could really guard them,” Nets coach Kenny Atkinson told the media afterward. Brooklyn matched a season high with 17 made 3-pointers in the defeat as reserve Joe Harris connected on four.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, YES (New York), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

ABOUT THE NETS (8-14): Harris is shooting 46.7 percent from 3-point range in his past five games, averaging 12 points per game in that span. Forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored nine points in 21 minutes off the bench after missing two games with a sprained right ankle. Former Atlanta forward DeMarre Carroll is enjoying a solid first season with Brooklyn, averaging 14 points and seven rebounds.

ABOUT THE HAWKS (5-17): Forward Luke Babbitt came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers Saturday, finishing with 20 points to help support guard Dennis Schroder’s game-high 24 points. Forward DeAndre Bembry added 12 points off the bench on 5-of-11 shooting, setting or matching career highs in points, field goals made and steals (two). Atlanta was tied for sixth in the NBA in 3-point shooting (38.2 percent) entering Sunday.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Brooklyn’s next victory will be its ninth of the season, a mark the Nets did not reach last season until Jan. 20.

    2. Hawks C Miles Plumlee played a season-high 19 minutes Saturday, finishing with six points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

    3. Atlanta’s victory Saturday snapped a three-game losing streak to the Nets.

    PREDICTION: Hawks 107, Nets 104

    Preview: Bucks at Celtics

    Gracenote
    Dec 3, 2017

The Boston Celtics will try to clinch a winning homestand and avenge their first loss at TD Garden this season when they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday. After dropping the opener of their five-game stay in Boston, the Celtics averaged 112 points in consecutive wins over Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Al Horford was one of six Boston players in double figures in Saturday's 116-111 triumph over the Suns and he handed out a career-high 11 assists as Boston improved to 10-2 at home. "I'm just trying to play through our offense, make the right plays and try to push the pace," Horford told reporters. "We wanted to make sure we had some good ball movement. We want to continue to get better as a group moving the ball, and I think today we took a big step in that direction." The Celtics were 0-1 at home following a 108-100 loss to the Bucks on Oct. 18, and Milwaukee returns to Boston riding an 8-3 surge. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had 37 points and 13 rebounds in the earlier win at TD Garden and 28 and 10 in a home loss to the Celtics eight days later, posted his 10th double-double in Saturday's 109-104 win over Sacramento.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), NBCSN Boston

ABOUT THE BUCKS (12-9): Antetokounmpo has been a force all season, but Khris Middleton's ability to provide consistent support has allowed Milwaukee - which entered Sunday ranked fourth in the NBA in shooting (48 percent) and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.67) - to become a much more efficient offense. Middleton is shooting 59 percent from the floor and 9-for-16 from long range during the three-game winning streak, and the Texas A&M product is averaging 25.5 points over the last two contests as he and his teammates continue to meld with new point guard Eric Bledsoe. "It's great. We still got a long way to go," Middleton said after the Bucks improved to 8-3 since installing Bledsoe in the starting lineup. "It's still only been 11 games. You never get to know a player or a team until a full season. We still have a lot to learn a lot about one another."

ABOUT THE CELTICS (20-4): Kyrie Irving led Boston with 19 points and again was clutch down the stretch versus Phoenix, but rookie Jayson Tatum is getting nearly as many touches with the game on the line. "Especially for a rookie coming in, that's been special," guard Jaylen Brown told ESPN.com. "I feel like him and Kyrie, they kinda get going in the fourth quarter. We need those plays at the end. They're tough shot-makers and have the ability to score like the top percentile of the league so, when they get going, it's hard to stop them." Tatum's late two-handed slam helped the Celtics hold off a Suns rally and finished a 15-point effort for the 19-year-old Tatum, who has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Horford had 27 points and nine rebounds in the 96-89 win at Milwaukee on Oct. 26

    2. Bledsoe is averaging 22.6 points on 52 percent shooting over the last five games.

    3. Antetokounmpo is second in the NBA in scoring (29.4), ninth in steals (1.8) and 15th in field-goal percentage (54.6) entering Sunday.

    Preview: Cavaliers at Bulls

    Gracenote
    Dec 3, 2017

Another day, another incredible performance from LeBron James and another win from the Cleveland Cavaliers - that seems to be the team's formula over the last month. The Cavaliers will try to coax another transcendent performance out of their superstar and ride it to a 12th consecutive win when they visit the NBA-worst Chicago Bulls on Monday.

James scored the team's final 13 points in a 116-111 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday and is averaging 28.3 points on 58.4 percent shooting. "It's just experience," James said. "I've been in a lot of big games, regular season, postseason, The Finals where you have to come through for your teammates. I just try to be as clutch as possible late in the game. ... It's an honor for me to be able to even have 14 guys and they look at me personally like 'Ok, it's your time.' I just try to make the right reads and make the right decisions to help us win." The Bulls are having some trouble finding that player on which to lean late in games and suffered one-point losses in the last two contests to stretch their current slide to eight straight. "We're right there, two games in a row," guard Jerian Grant told the team's website. "Could be two wins with one basket, one change. So, it's tough. But we're hanging in there because we see that we are right there. When you can say that you were in the game and gave yourself a chance to win, it is taking a step forward.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Cleveland), WGN (Chicago)

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (16-7): James thought he would have some help this season in the fourth quarter from former MVP Derrick Rose, who remains away from the team pondering his future while dealing with a sprained ankle. Rose sat out the last 12 games but reportedly has recently had positive dialogue with the organization. "Whenever he's ready to tell us or whatever, we're ready for that," James told ESPN.com prior to Saturday's win. "You don't ever fast-track someone's process of what they may be going through. When they're ready to talk about it or ready to bring it to the forefront, as his teammates, we'll be ready for it."
ABOUT THE BULLS (3-18): Chicago dealt with a rough back-to-back at Denver on Thursday and home against the Sacramento Kings on Friday and came within a basket of winning each. "The biggest thing is to keep taking positive steps," Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters. "I thought we really competed, especially (Friday), go into Denver and a tough back to back. I thought the guys went out with the right mentality. ... The biggest thing moving forward is keeping it positive with them and trying to make winning plays down the stretch, which we have not done the last two nights." Rookie power forward Lauri Markkanen is trying to stay positive while battling through a slump that has him shooting 29.9 percent from the floor over the last seven games.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Bulls F Bobby Portis (arm) sat out Friday and is questionable for Monday.

    2. Cavaliers PF Kevin Love recorded seven double-doubles during the 11-game winning streak.

    3. Cleveland snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with a 119-112 home win on Oct. 24 behind 34 points and 13 assists from James.

    PREDICTION: Cavaliers 115, Bulls 103

    Preview: Timberwolves at Grizzlies

    Gracenote
    Dec 4, 2017

The Minnesota Timberwolves are four games above .500 but haven't had a winning streak of any kind since the middle of November, a trend they'll attempt to reverse when they visit the reeling Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Behind Jimmy Butler, who scored 20 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves outlasted the Los Angeles Clippers 112-106 on Sunday at home.

Minnesota has alternated wins and losses over its last eight contests following a three-game winning streak from Nov. 13-17. Tyreke Evans scored 31 points to go along with 12 assists and Marc Gasol added 27 points in the Grizzlies' 11th straight loss, a 116-111 setback against Cleveland on Saturday. Memphis took some comfort in staying close with the hottest team in the NBA, only to succumb to another outstanding effort by LeBron James. "That effort tonight would have beaten 90 percent of this league on their home court," interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. "Unfortunately, they've got a guy who is pretty damn good."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (14-10): Butler averaged 16.2 points and 4.4 assists in October, 17.9 points and 4.5 assists in November and is at 22 and seven through the first two games this month as he gains comfort with his new team. Center Karl-Anthony Towns leads the NBA with 19 double-doubles after going for 15 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday's win. Minnesota is 1-1 thus far in a stretch during which it plays six of seven games against sub-.500 teams from the Western Conference, against whom it is 11-4.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (7-15): Evans is averaging 18.7 points and seven assists in three starts as the team waits for regular starting point guard Mike Conley (Achilles) to return, but he needed some urging from Bickerstaff to be more assertive his last time out. "(On Friday night), I was just trying to be too much of a point guard, getting everybody involved, but (Bickerstaff) just told me to do the same but be aggressive," Evans told reporters Saturday. "That's what I did. I was being aggressive and took what the defense gave me." Gasol topped 20 points for the first time since Nov. 15, which also was the last time the Grizzlies scored at least 100.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Minnesota made 28-of-31 free throws Sunday and is 62-for-71 over its last three games.

    2. Butler has played at least 40 minutes in consecutive contests for the first time in over a year.

    3. The Grizzlies won three of the four meetings last season, including a 93-71 rout in the last matchup in Memphis.

    PREDICTION: Timberwolves 104, Grizzlies 98

    Preview: Warriors at Pelicans

    Gracenote
    Dec 4, 2017

The New Orleans Pelicans struggled to keep pace with the Golden State Warriors in two previous matchups, even with star forward Anthony Davis dominating. They will try to stay competitive with the high-powered Warriors without Davis when the teams meet Monday in New Orleans.

Davis, who will miss his second straight game due to a pelvis injury, averaged 32.5 points and 15 rebounds in the two earlier losses to Golden State - including a recent 15-point setback in Oakland. His team was able to snap a three-game losing streak without him by topping Portland 123-116 on Saturday, as DeMarcus Cousins shouldered the load with 38 points and eight boards. The Warriors are 3-0 on their six-game road trip after pounding Miami 125-95 on Sunday behind 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting over 30 minutes by Stephen Curry. Golden State shot 56 percent in the victory and is at that same mark for the road trip while averaging 127.3 points.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (Golden State), FSN New Orleans

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (18-6): Golden State continued its season-long trend of dominating in the third quarter, outscoring the Heat 37-17 in the first 12 minutes after halftime. It marked the fourth time in 14 games the Warriors have won the period by at least 20 points, and Curry recorded 10 in the first four-plus minutes of the third quarter on Sunday. The two-time MVP finished 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and needs five 3-pointers to become the eighth player in NBA history with 2,000.

ABOUT THE PELICANS (12-11): The injury to Davis may have helped New Orleans focus a bit more in the win at Portland. "I think it was a great team effort. We preached before the game, 'No excuses,'" Cousins told reporters. "It stinks that my partner in crime, AD, went out last night. That being said, we kind of crumbled as a team the previous night. We just tried to come in with no excuses." E'Twaun Moore made all four of his 3-point attempts en route to 19 points, marking the third time in four games he has hit exactly four from beyond the arc.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Pelicans PG Rajon Rondo is averaging 12.5 points, 11.5 assists and seven rebounds over his last two games.

    2. Warriors F Kevin Durant scored 24 points Sunday and is averaging 26 in three contests since returning from an ankle injury.

    3. Golden State SF Andre Iguodala (knee) has missed two straight games and is day-to-day.

    PREDICTION: Warriors 113, Pelicans 109
