Well folks ... this race is named after Busanda, who won the Alabama stakes in 1950. The race is also a prep race for the Kentucky Oaks. Here in the 45th running of The Busanda (which was originally scheduled for January 21st (frozen/snowed out) ... #5 HAIL has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in both of her two career starts to date, including a "POWER RUN WIN" to break her maiden in her last start. Jockey Dylan Davis was in her irons for that win, 25 days ago here at "The Big-A." and is back this afternoon here in Ozone Park for his 2nd ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips!" #1 MIDNIGHT DISGUISE has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in each of his respective three career starts to date, including back-to-back, "POWER RUN WINS" in his first two outings.

I think STRAHAN is a strong choice. Facing a much less demanding lot than last time out. Recent figures for the jockey - 21 win percent - make this gelding stand out in this field. This gelding gets a boost with Thornton in the irons. FIRST TO SCORE - Posted a competitive Equibase Speed Figure last time out. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Hurley running at this distance are the most respectable in this group. ELLERBE - Has put up reliable Equibase Speed Figures in dirt route races in the past. He has a good opportunity in this race as conditioner, Burress, has very strong win rate with horses going this distance.

X Y RUNNER - You always have to be on the watch for money generating rider/trainer teams; we have it right here. Have to make this colt a solid contender; he comes off a nice effort on Dec 31st. Just look at his most recent speed fig, 81. That one fits in this field. Ranks uppermost in earnings per start. A strong outing right here can augment that bankroll.
Vulnerable Contenders: #5 FRANK THE BUTCHER (ML=7/5), #8 RUN FOR THE CUP (ML=9/2), #3 FULLBACK FOYE (ML=8/1),
FRANK THE BUTCHER - This colt hasn't had any recent success in short distance contests. Tough to play him in this race. RUN FOR THE CUP - Hasn't hit the board in any sprint affairs lately. Doubtful to see him doing it this time either. Unlikely for this vulnerable equine to do much today. The very long layoff is a troublesome sign. This closer will probably be closing much too late to make an impression in this event. FULLBACK FOYE - You think this animal is going to win just because he's always close. Just doesn't finish on top often. Won't be easy for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last fig. Improbable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's Equibase class figure, so put him on the likely underlays list.

I wouldn't worry too much about the layoff; this horse is ready to run today. The 107 most recent race speed fig looks sound in the TrackMaster PPs. CROWN THE KITTEN - In this race here, this pony has clearly shown signs that he likes the grass. His speed figures are the highest in the field for this dist/surf. STREET MOXIE - Wong will try adding blinks today in hopes of an improved performance.
