    Preview: Memphis at Tulane
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

Tulane's once-promising season is heading toward the finishing stretch with a whimper as the team plods through a stretch of four straight losses. The Green Wave will try to stay above .500 and win for just the third time in the last 11 games when they host Memphis on Saturday.

Tulane sat at 11-4 after beating SMU on Jan. 4 in its third American Athletic Conference game but has since dropped eight of 10 -- a stretch that began with a 96-89 loss at Memphis on Jan. 9. The Green Wave suffered their most embarrassing defeat on Sunday with a 72-43 setback at Houston but showed some resiliency while taking East Carolina to the wire at home on Wednesday and coming up one basket short in an 82-80 loss. The Tigers snapped a three-game slide with a 73-70 triumph at SMU on Wednesday despite being without leading scorer Jeremiah Martin, who sat with a hip injury but could return in time for Saturday's contest. "Without Jeremiah Martin, that was a heck of an effort," Memphis head coach Tubby Smith told reporters. "And any win on the road is a good win."

    TV: 2 p.m. ET, ESPNU

ABOUT MEMPHIS (15-11, 6-7 AAC): Only two of the 10 players that saw time in Wednesday's win were on the team last season, and finishing with a winning record in the conference would be a step in the right direction. "We knew this season would be a tough one as far as so many new faces. I love the way our new guys stepped up tonight," Smith told reporters after Wednesday's win. "You don't find this. I've never experienced this. I don't think any coach in America is probably having to deal with so many new faces." The Tigers will play four of their final five games against teams below them in the AAC standings, including the Green Wave.

ABOUT TULANE (13-12, 4-9): The Green Wave fell into a 39-15 hole at halftime in the loss to Houston and started off slow again on Wednesday before fighting back and falling just short. "I thought we were going to be able to pull it out the whole time because we just kept fighting," senior guard Cameron Reynolds told reporters. "...We just have to come out in the first half and handle business. That's been our downfall for the whole year." Reynolds scored 23 points in the loss and posted at least 16 in four of the last five games.

    TIP-INS

    1. Tulane freshman G Chase Daniels is 5-of-9 from 3-point range over the last three games and is shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc on the season.

    2. Memphis senior F Jimario Rivers went scoreless on 0-of-7 shooting Wednesday and is 1-of-12 from the floor over the last three contests.

    3. The Tigers took the last four in the series, with Martin's 31 points leading the way in the first meeting this season.

Preview: Notre Dame at Boston College
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

Boston College looks to snap a 10-game losing streak to Notre Dame as the Eagles host the Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon. The streak began in 2005 when both were Big East members and includes a 96-85 victory when the teams met in South Bend 11 days ago.

T.J. Gibbs scored a career-high 28 and senior Matt Farrell added 19 points and seven assists as Notre Dame ended a seven-game losing streak with its highest-scoring conference game of the season in the victory over the Eagles on Feb. 6. The Fighting Irish were able to withstand an incredible performance from BC's Jerome Robinson in which he broke the Purcell Pavilion opponent scoring record with 46 points on 15-of-23 shooting and 7-of-12 from 3-point range. BC is 2-0 since the loss in South Bend, with a 72-70 victory over Miami on Feb. 10 and an 81-58 win over last-place Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Notre Dame followed up the BC victory with an 84-69 win versus Florida State but then lost 83-66 at No. 16 North Carolina on Monday.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, ACC Network

ABOUT NOTRE DAME (15-11, 5-8 ACC): Farrell's return to the lineup after missing five games in January has brought the offense back to life as the senior has 21 assists in his last three games and the Fighting Irish are averaging 82 points per game in those matches. His ability to distribute has also opened up the outside shooting game as Notre Dame has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in its last three games, including a season-high 16 against BC. Sophomore John Mooney is coming off a career night against the Tar Heels in which he scored 18 points on 6-of-6 3-point shooting, while senior Martinas Geben was efficient with 18 points in 17 minutes on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (16-10, 6-7): Robinson, second in ACC scoring at 20.7 points per game, shook off a two-point first half and went 10-for-12 the rest of the way to finish with 27 as the Eagles outscored Pitt 49-24 in the second half for their first ACC road win in almost three years. The junior guard is averaging a eye-popping 34 points per game over his last three and has hit on 50 percent of his shots or better in nine straight games. Rebounding was also key against the Panthers as BC outrebounded Pitt 43-22, including an 18-2 advantage on the offensive glass.

    TIP-INS

    1. Gibbs has reached double-digits in scoring in 14 straight games.

    2. BC had 19 assists against Pitt, tying a season high.

    3. Notre Dame is 4-8 without ACC Preseason Player of the Year Bonzie Colson (foot surgery in early January) but his return is on the horizon as the team said he has one week left in his recovery.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame 85, Boston College 82

Preview: North Carolina State at Wake Forest
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

North Carolina State earned a huge victory on the road for its improving NCAA Tournament resume last time out and looks to avoid a mistake Saturday afternoon when it visits struggling Wake Forest for an ACC contest. The Wolfpack shot 55.1 percent from the floor and drained 10 shots from 3-point range en route to a 74-70 victory at Syracuse on Wednesday, moving back over .500 in the league (7-6).

“I thought this was a gutsy win for our team,” N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts told reporters. “Anytime you can get a road win in the ACC it’s huge. I thought we did a great job in the second half finding some gaps in the zone and we made some plays.” The Wolfpack have won seven of 11 since losing their first two ACC games and look to take advantage of Wake Forest, which had dropped 10 of 11 before knocking off injury-hampered Georgia Tech 79-62 on Wednesday. “Last year, we went on a three-game streak to end the season, and that basically got us in the NCAA Tournament,” Demon Deacons sophomore guard Brandon Childress told the Winston-Salem Journal. “So we know (if) we finish the ACC regular season at 7-11, it gives us a lot of confidence and just that great feeling going into the ACC Tournament.” Junior guard Bryant Crawford leads Wake Forest in scoring (16.5) and assists (5.2) and is averaging 21 and 7.7, respectively, over the past three games.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, ACC Network

ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA STATE (17-9, 7-6 ACC): Senior guard Allerik Freeman leads the balanced offense in scoring (14.2) and has recorded 17 in each of the last two contests. Sophomore point guard Markell Johnson tops the team in assists (7.7) and continues to add juice to the offense while averaging 14.3 points over the past three games, including 16 against Syracuse. Sophomore center Omer Yurtseven (13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 59.5 percent from the field) and junior guard Torin Dorn (13.4, 6.2, 53.8) have also been productive.

ABOUT WAKE FOREST (10-16, 3-11): Crawford also leads the Demon Deacons in made 3-pointers (50) and junior guard Keyshawn Woods (12.7 points) has drained 33 from long range, but is 3-for-15 in the last four games. Junior center Doral Moore, who averages 10.8 points along with team highs of 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, connected on 20 of his 26 field goal attempts in the past three contests. Senior guard Mitchell Wilbekin has also been accurate of late while making 8-of-12 from the floor - 7-of-11 from behind the arc - in the last two games.

    TIP-INS

    1. Yurtseven scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Wolfpack defeated the Demon Deacons 72-63 on Jan. 18.

    2. Moore has strung together nine straight double-figure rebound efforts and three double-doubles in a row.

    3. N.C. State senior G Sam Hunt scored 14 points in the win at Syracuse after finishing in single digits in 12 straight games.

    Preview: Texas A&M at Arkansas
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

It has been a season of streaks for Texas A&M - and it would love nothing more than to stop the next one before it starts. The Aggies look to bounce back from a narrow loss to Missouri and cap a season sweep of Arkansas as they visit the Razorbacks in a Saturday SEC encounter.

Fans have been treated to one of the more volatile seasons in recent memory, as Texas A&M has cobbled together two four-game winning streaks and a seven-game run - along with a five-game losing skid to open conference play that all but torpedoed any shot at the SEC title. Their latest four-game streak came to a disheartening end Tuesday as the Aggies got off to a dismal start, falling behind by eight points at half and failing to close the gap over the final 20 minutes. Things don't get any easier Saturday as Texas A&M travels to face an Arkansas team that has won six of its last eight - and will be looking to avenge one of the two losses over that span, an 80-66 setback in College Station. The Razorbacks defense has shone of late, allowing 65 or fewer points in three consecutive games - all victories.

    TV: 4 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT TEXAS A&M (17-9, 6-7 SEC): The Aggies have relied heavily on an elite rebounding unit that ranks tied for third in the nation in total boards per game (41.9); Robert Williams leads the conference (9.5) while Tyler Davis sits tied for second (8.7). Davis also leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game but was held to just five in 25 minutes in the loss to Missouri. Williams, meanwhile, has scored in double digits in nine consecutive games with a pair of double-doubles over that stretch; he has also recorded three or more blocked shots in four of his past six contests.

ABOUT ARKANSAS (18-8, 7-6): The Razorbacks can point to free-throw woes as the source of many of their low points this season; they're shooting a dismal 66.7 percent from the line - good for 309th out of 351 Division I schools - and converted just 59 percent of their attempts in Tuesday's 11-point win over Ole Miss. Arkansas prevailed despite an off night from leading scorer Jaylen Barford (18.5 ppg), who went just 1-for-7 from deep en route to a 13-point performance; he had 19 points while knocking down three 3s in his last meeting with Texas A&M. The Razorbacks commit just 11.2 turnovers per game, second-fewest in the SEC.

    TIP-INS

    1. The Razorbacks have committed an SEC-high 524 personal fouls - 98 more than the Aggies.

    2. Barford has knocked down multiple 3-pointers in 10 of his previous 12 games.

    3. Texas A&M ranks seventh in the country in blocked shots per game (5.8).

    Preview: Florida at Vanderbilt
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

Florida will try to avoid glancing too far ahead on the schedule when it visits last-place Vanderbilt in an SEC battle Saturday afternoon. The Gators leave Nashville and then face a four-game stretch to end the regular season that includes matchups against conference leaders Auburn and Tennessee, a visit to surging Alabama and a finale against what could be a desperate Kentucky squad.

Before beginning that challenging slate, Florida has to figure out what went wrong in an overtime loss to Georgia at home Wednesday, when it blew an 11-point lead in the final 10 minutes of regulation and a six-point edge in the final 25 seconds. "If you get the ball in bounds, you win the game. If you get a stop, you win the game. If you communicate, you win the game - despite all the mistakes made for the first 39 minutes," Gators coach Mike White told reporters. "That's about as tough an ending to a game that I've experienced as a head coach." The Commodores have won two of their last three after Riley LaChance nailed a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left to lift them to an 81-80 win over Mississippi State on Wednesday. Vanderbilt dropped an 81-74 decision at Florida to begin conference play but won the previous five meetings with the Gators.

    TV: 4 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT FLORIDA (17-9, 8-5 SEC): Jalen Hudson leads the team in scoring at 15.1 per game but was held scoreless for the first time this season in the loss to Georgia, while point guard Chris Chiozza (11.7 points, team-high 5.9 assists) shot 2-of-14 from the field. "That's not Chris Chiozza," White said of his leader. "But he wasn't the only guy." Fellow senior Egor Koulechov was the only starter to score in double figures with 19 points and he is shooting 55 percent over his last seven games.

ABOUT VANDERBILT (10-16, 4-9): The Commodores were 4-9 in games decided by single digits before LaChance gave them a much-needed emotional boost. "We've been on the other side of that so many times this year," coach Bryce Drew told the media. "It was really nice to be on the winning side. That's a shot that (Riley) will be showing his kids one day." Jeff Roberson led the way with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double and he leads Vanderbilt in both scoring (16.2) and rebounding (7.2).

    TIP-INS

    1. Koulechov made all 10 of his free throws en route to a game-high 22 points in the first meeting.

    2. Commodores G Joe Toye is averaging 11.2 points over a five-game span after being held to seven points or fewer in each of his previous 11 contests, including 21 scoreless minutes against Florida.

    3. Gators G KeVaughn Allen is averaging 5.5 points while shooting 4-for-13 in his team's last two wins, compared to 17.5 points on 11-of-26 in the last two losses.

    Preview: Missouri at LSU
    Gracenote
    Feb 17, 2018

Missouri puts the longest active winning streak in the SEC on the line as it vies for a sixth consecutive victory when it visits LSU on Saturday. LSU has dropped seven of its last 10 overall games but has won three straight at home.

Missouri has made one of the biggest turnarounds in the nation after registering only eight victories last season. Its five-game winning streak continued with a 62-58 home triumph over Texas A&M on Tuesday, keeping it in line for a potential top-four seed and a double-bye in the SEC tournament. LSU would like to play its way into a higher seed for the event, as it is tied for 10th with Georgia. LSU has played well at home, earning wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas and Texas A&M in its last three, but has lost five straight on the road.

    TV: 2 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT MISSOURI (18-8, 8-5 SEC): The Tigers have found their iron man and go-to guy in Kassius Robertson (16.6 points), who is the two-time reigning SEC Player of the Week. Robertson and Jordan Barnett (13.7 points, 5.8 rebounds) are the only players averaging double digits in points, but Jontay Porter (nine, 4.7) is averaging 13 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks during the team's five-game winning streak. Fellow freshman Jeremiah Tilmon (8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds) has done a better job of staying out of foul trouble lately as he and Porter have been on the court together more often, giving Missouri a big edge inside.

ABOUT LSU (14-11, 5-8): The Tigers can get the ball up the floor and score with a guard-oriented lineup led by freshman Tremont Waters (14.5 points, 5.9 assists), but they’ve struggled at the defensive end. Duop Reath (13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds) has been LSU’s most consistent player in SEC play, averaging a team-high 15.6 points and six rebounds. Skylar Mays (11 points) also averages double digits, and junior-college transfer Daryl Edwards poured in a season-high 21 points in Tuesday’s 80-65 loss at Alabama.

    TIP-INS

    1. Robertson’s 79 3-pointers rank fourth on Missouri’s single-season list, three behind Matt Lawrence (82 in 2008-09) for third.

    2. LSU is 13-0 when leading with 10 minutes left and 0-10 when trailing midway through the second half.

    3. Missouri’s five-game winning streak is its longest since 2013-14 and longest in conference play since it captured seven straight Big 12 contests in 2011-12.

    Preview: Auburn at South Carolina
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

No. 11 Auburn looks to avoid a letdown on the road when it visits struggling South Carolina on Saturday. The Gamecocks have lost six straight heading into the meeting with the SEC-leading Tigers.

The Tigers have won seven of their last eight games and are coming off a 76-66 home victory over Kentucky, but they are making sure not to overlook the slumping Gamecocks. South Carolina nearly knocked off Tennessee - which is second in the conference - on the road on Tuesday, erasing a 14-point deficit before falling 70-67. “We can’t afford to not get up for an opponent,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl told reporters. “We can’t afford to not (get up) or we won’t win. It’s real simple. If you’re big enough, talented enough, deep enough, you can show up sometimes and win.” The Gamecocks have won two straight meetings with Auburn and three of the last four.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network

ABOUT AUBURN (23-3, 11-2 SEC): The Tigers continue to confound taller teams with their guard-oriented lineup. Sharp-shooter Bryce Brown (16.6 points) and backcourt mates Mustapha Heron (16.1, 5.3 rebounds) and Jared Harper (13.5, six assists) are pesky at the defensive end and like to push the pace. The undersized Desean Murray (10.9 points, seven rebounds) plays much bigger than his 6-3 frame, and fellow forwards Anfernee McLemore and Horace Spencer are tough post defenders.

ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA (13-13, 4-9): The Gamecocks have one of the SEC’s best big men in Chris Silva (14.2 points, 7.6 rebounds), but their guard play leaves much to be desired. Reserve Frank Booker (11.6 points) has averaged 14.2 points over his last five games, but the rest of the members of the backcourt rotation have been inconsistent. Coach Frank Martin’s teams typically are known for tough defense, but South Carolina has allowed five straight opponents to shoot at least 46 percent.

    TIP-INS

    1. McLemore has recorded 71 blocked shots – more than 96 NCAA Division I teams.

    2. Silva has made 168 free throws, most in the SEC and sixth-most in the nation.

    3. The Gamecocks are 12-1 when scoring at least 70 points, but they haven’t hit that mark in their last four games.

    Preview: Villanova at Xavier
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

The season's first matchup between Villanova and Xavier proved to be more of a mismatch. There is, however, a rematch Saturday as the second-ranked Wildcats visit the fourth-ranked Musketeers in a Big East showdown.

Back on Jan. 10, Villanova rolled over Xavier 89-65 behind 21 points from Phil Booth, who is currently sidelined with a broken hand, and 17 from Jalen Brunson, who earned major praise from Musketeers coach Chris Mack following the game. "You peel his face off, you'll probably have wires coming out of it," Mack said that night. "I think they're led by the best point guard in college basketball." Meanwhile, the Musketeers shot only 41.4 percent from the field and watched their three starting guards shoot a combined 6-of-28 overall in the earlier encounter with the Wildcats. Villanova enters this matchup having lost two of its last three, while Xavier has won nine in a row since losing to the Wildcats.

    TV: 4:30 p.m. ET, Fox

ABOUT VILLANOVA (23-3, 10-3 Big East): Brunson has been in a 3-point shooting slump - 3-of-19 over the last three games - and had an uncharacteristic seven turnovers in Wednesday's 76-71 loss to Providence after not recording more than three in any prior game this season. Donte DiVincenzo also had an off-day versus the Friars, finishing with six points to snap a streak of 16 straight games scoring in double figure, including a career-high 30 in the previous game against Butler. Mikal Bridges had a team-high 19 points the last time out and has committed one turnover or less in 12 of his last 13 games.

ABOUT XAVIER (24-3, 12-2): The Musketeers have scored 88 or more points on six occasions during their current nine-game winning streak and poured in 102 points - a new season high - in their last game, a 12-point win over Seton Hall. Trevon Bluiett recorded 37 points and Naji Marshall had a career-high 20 points for Xavier, which shot 14-of-29 from 3-point range and a crisp 28-of-35 from the foul line. J.P. Macura has been quiet of late, surpassing his season scoring average (12.3) only once in the last six games.

    TIP-INS

    1. Macura made 2-of-3 3-pointers against Seton Hall after a five-game stretch in which he went 2-of-16 from the arc.

    2. Bluiett has drained at least six 3-pointers in three of his last four outings.

    3. After missing two games with a concussion, Villanova F Eric Paschall was 4-of-5 for eight points against Providence.

    Preview: Tennessee at Georgia
    Gracenote
    Feb 16, 2018

No. 17 Tennessee heads to Georgia on Saturday looking to reach another milestone in its breakout season, as the Volunteers aim to reach 20 wins for the first time since 2013-14. The Volunteers rebounded from an ugly loss at Alabama last weekend, continuing their push toward the top of the SEC with a 70-67 home victory over South Carolina that kept Tennessee two games behind Auburn in the league standings.

“Defensively we were a much better team (Wednesday) than we were at Alabama,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes told reporters after the Volunteers won for the seventh time in eight games. The Bulldogs have struggled of late but capped a surprising season sweep of Florida on Wednesday with a 72-69 overtime victory. Yante Maten, the SEC’s leading scorer, finished with 23 points - including the game-tying 3-pointer late in regulation and eight consecutive points early in overtime. “Nothing we said was different,” Georgia coach Mark Fox told the media after the Bulldogs won for just the second time in eight games. “We just wanted to keep competing.”

TV: 6 p.m. ET, SEC Network

ABOUT TENNESSEE (19-6, 9-4 SEC): Forward Grant Williams leads the Volunteers in scoring at 16.2 points per game, finishing with 22 points and making a key basket with 11 seconds left against South Carolina. The Volunteers have excelled on defense all season, ranking third in the SEC in scoring defense (67.2 points per game). Junior forward Admiral Schofield (12.3) and sophomore guard Lamonte Turner (10.6) also score in double figures for Tennessee.

ABOUT GEORGIA (14-11, 5-8): Maten has led the way for the Bulldogs all season, averaging 19.5 points per game while ranking third in the SEC in rebounding (8.7 per contest). Georgia ranks second in the league and 16th nationally in field-goal percentage defense (40.1 percent) after limiting Florida to 37.9 percent after its three previous opponents shot 50.9 percent or better. Tyree Crump scored 13 points against the Gators as the Bulldogs had five players finish in double figures.

    TIP-INS

    1. The Volunteers have scored 32 percent of their points this season from 3-point range.

    2. Tennessee has won nine games against teams ranked in the top 100 in RPI, five of those victories coming away from home.

    3. The Bulldogs have won the past four meetings in the series and six of the past seven.

    PREDICTION: Tennessee 76, Georgia 68
