Atletico Paranense visits Quito as a heavy underdog, which given that it plays in Brazil, raises eyebrows. Atletico PR isn't one of the Brazilian Serie A powers but do have a winning record and positive goal differential. The fact they're getting such a high return strikes me as a situation where the books are hoping they'll get some action in this Copa Sudamericana first leg matchup. Altitude should be an issue and Liga did topple Barcelona in the Ecuadorian Super Copa, so LDU is plenty capable. Laying a bit of juice, we'll ride the home pitch edge and back LDU Quito to prevail outright on the 3-way money line.

This should be a good pitching matchup in the first half but with plus money available my money goes on the Halos and Ohtani for the F5.

Jose Berrios has been fantastic in his two starts since the Blue Jays acquired him at the trade deadline, allowing just 1 run in 12 innings of work (0.75 ERA) with a 13-1 strikeout/walk ratio. Shohei Ohtani had one bad outing on June 30th, but has been amazing since the start of July, allowing only 4 runs in 26 innings (1.38 ERA). Ohtani will have to pitch well tonight as the Angels offense is struggling and has scored 3 runs or less in 10 of their past 14 games.

Quick Synopsis: First leg of the semifinals and the Union are the final remaining non-Mexican side in this competition having gotten here with a much easier route facing Saprissa (CR) and Atlanta United but now take one of Mexico's best sides in Club America and making the task tougher is they'll have to play in the high elevation of Azteca Stadium where the home side is 17-4-3 over the last 12 months. His mound opponent, Kyle Muller is a fine young rookie with a ton of up-side. Two competant bullpens and a total of 10 1/2 tells me "Take the Under" Good Luck!

I will gladly take my chances with the UNDER 10.5 in Thursday's game between the Braves and Reds. I know it's going to be a tough day to pitch with the heat index pushing 100 degrees, but asking these two teams to put up at least 11 runs is a lot with the starting pitching matchup.
Cincinnati will send out Vladimir Gutierrez, who has what looks like a poor 4.15 ERA and 1.344 WHIP over 13 starts. However, most of that damage has come when he's taken the mound at home. He's 5-1 with a 3.11 ERA and 1.187 WHIP in 8 road starts. He's also red-hot coming in, as he owns a 1.86 ERA and 1.035 WHIP over his last 3 starts.
Atlanta will counter with Kyle Muller, who has impressed in limited action. Muller has a 2.43 ERA and 1.050 WHIP over 7 starts and has a similar 2.45 ERA and 1.091 WHIP in his last 3 outings. I just don't think there's going to be enough offense from either side to eclipse this big number. Give me the UNDER 10.5!

Both Kyle Muller and Vladamir Gutierrez are two little-known starters that have been flying under the radar this season. That's why this total has been set too high tonight as these starters are better than they are getting credit for with this 10-run total. Gutierrez is 7-3 with a 4.15 ERA in 13 starts, including 5-1 with a 3.11 ERA in eight road starts. He is 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts as well. Muller is 2-3 with a 2.43 ERA in seven starts this season. Muller pitched 5 shutout innings in a 4-0 win over the Reds on June 27th. Gutierrez gave up 3 runs in 6 innings of a 3-2 loss to the Braves on June 25th. Give me the UNDER.

Heaney is 1-1 with an 11.00 ERA in his last two starts against the White Sox, allowing 11 earned runs in 9 innings. He gave up 7 earned runs in 3 innings in his lone start against Chicago in 2021.
The White Sox own left-handed starters, going 35-13 against them over the last two seasons and winning by 2.3 runs per game in this spot. They will jump on Heaney early in this one, and Lynn and the bullpen will preserve the victory. Bet the White Sox Thursday.
