Sport/League: MLB
Date/Time: August 27, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (-150) S Mcclanahan (LHP), M Harvey (RHP) Must Start
The Orioles broke their losing streak in impression fashion against Ohtani and the Angels on Wednesday night, and then came back with a 13-1 win. So the question is, are they now confident and ready to win, or did they just expose a bad Angels pitching staff? We think they took advantage of a randomly bad Ohtani start, and then beat up a terrible bullpen. The Rays are in a completely different tier than the Angels as they have won 8 out of their last 9 games, and all 8 of those wins were by the run line. Harvey will be going for Balty, and has been bad in August giving up 14 runs in 19 innings. McClanahan will get the start for Tampa and has been solid this season with an ERA of 3.63, and he has started 3 times against the Orioles and has gone 3-0 giving up only 5 earned runs in 17 innings with 23 strikeouts. We believe Baltimore regresses back to their bad ways en route to a run line win for the streaking Rays.

Matt Harvey has a 6+ ERA at home and the Rays are one of the hottest hitting teams in MLB the last 30 days. Play it safe on an alt -1 run line so you push if they win by 1, or go a little riskier with the -1.5 run line for better odds since the Rays are on the road.

Date/Time: August 27, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: 1H Total Under 4.5 (-120) T Widener (RHP), A Nola (RHP) Must Start
Willing to take a shot here in hitter friendly Citizen's Bank Park with the 1st 5 inning “Under” for a pair of reasons. First up like the starting pitching here with Taylor Widener posting three straight stat lines of 5 innings pitched and 2 or less runs allowed including one against these Phillies just 10 days ago. All three of those games had 5 inning results under 4.5 runs which is the number we're faced with tonight. Other dugout has Aaron Nola who has faced a boat load of solid offenses this season in this stadium and still owns a 1.03 home WHIP, .224 HOME BAA, .252 home OBP against and 12 K's per 9 IP ratio. What figures to help these starters even more is the absence of Ketel Marte from the Arizona lineup after an injury forced him to leave last night's game and Rhys Hoskins from Philadelphia's lineup. Without Marte from June 27-July 31, the Diamondbacks averaged just 3.2 runs per game in their 12 road contests. Since he returned on August 1st, Arizona has played the same amount of road games (12) but they averaged 4.3 in those. His .348 BA / .401 OBP /.548 SLG% are likely to be missed. Hoskins should also be missed as the Phillies scored less than 4 runs 12 times in the 15 games span when he was on the IL this month. He returned a few days ago and immediately hit 3 HR's in three games before getting injured again and now being out for the season. Combination of solid starting pitching plus subtractions of a key bat from each offense make the 1st 5 inning “Under” worth a “Free Play” look.
Recommendation: Arizona-Philadelphia 1st 5 Inning “Under” 4.5 -1.20

Lefties Eduardo Rodriguez and Logan Allen square off in Cleveland and neither appears to be very trustworthy. Rodriguez is hit-or-miss while Allen is young and faces a lineup that lit up the Twins on Thursday and comes in confident. Ride the over in this matchup.

Event: (909) San Francisco Giants at (910) Atlanta Braves
Sport/League: MLB
Date/Time: August 27, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: Atlanta Braves -115 K Gausman (RHP), M Fried (LHP) Must Start
The best record in baseball is owned by the San Francisco Giants (83-44), and the Bay Area troupe is in Atlanta to take on the red-hot Braves (68-58). Kevin Gausman (12-5, 2.47 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Giants and oppose Braves Max Fried (11-7, 3.57).
The Braves' home record represents who this team was in the first half of the season. Atlanta owns a 31-31 home mark while the Giants are 41-25 playing the visitor role. The Braves are 8-2 across their last 10 games and have outscored opponents by 26 runs in that time frame. The Giants have matched the Braves 8-2 record in their last 10 games. San Fran has played games close to the vest.
Max Fried has taken almost all of the first half of the season to find his mojo. The lefty tossed a complete-game shutout against the Orioles on Friday. The Giants ace has been pedestrian in August. His record is a perfect 3-0, but he's allowed more hits than innings pitched, and his ERA is a run higher than his season mark. The Braves protect home turf with a solid outing from Fried.

The scheduling situation favors the Braves tonight as they have two days of rest and remain at home, while the Giants must travel without rest after sweeping the Mets in New York. Atlanta lost both games versus the red-hot Yankees (12-0 SU run), but the Braves are still an incredibly strong 16-4 SU in their past twenty games overall.

Play: New York Yankees -151 G Cole (RHP), S Manaea (LHP) Must Start
Take the New York Yankees (#921)
It’s not hard to make a case for the hottest team in baseball with ace Gerrit Cole on the hill against their slumping foe. The results do not lie. Right now, the Yankees are playing their best baseball of the season. The Bronx Bombers are living up to their nickname, averaging just shy of eight runs per game in their last seven contests; a lineup that has pounded out five runs or more ten times during this twelve game winning streak. Cole is an ace in elite current form, allowing only one run in two August starts; both Yankees victories.
While the Yankees are red hot, the A’s are not. They’ve lost five straight and nine of their last eleven. Starter Sean Manaea has been hit hard in all four August starts, with an ERA above 9.00 this month. The A’s lineup has NOT been producing runs in bunches at any point during this skid; held to five runs or less in ten straight games prior to last night; held to two runs or less in half of those ballgames. Their bullpen has shown cracks as well, losing four of their last five games on his homestand on their opponent’s final at bat. Road chalk worth laying! Take the Yankees.

Play: 1H New York Yankees -0.5 (-105) G Cole (RHP), S Manaea (LHP) Must Start
Turn back the clock a few weeks and I wouldn't have even considered this play. But things have changed dramatically over that time span. The Yankees are simply not losing at all right now and Oakland has slumped. 12-0 vs. 0-5 on the streaks and I've got to give Gerrit Cole an edge over Sean Manaea. Cole has been surprisingly inconsistent this season but he's arriving here off two good starts. Manaea has hit the skids of late. Last four starts, 15.2 innings, 33 runners on base and 17 runs allowed. That's not the type of form that indicates likely success against a now healthy New York lineup. The only regular still sidelined is Gleyber Torres and I'm not sure how much he's being missed, if at all, as Torres simply hadn't played well all season. The Yankees are good sized chalk here and I don't ever like the idea of spotting -160 or thereabouts. So I'm going to chance the -0.5 for the F5 at pick 'em and will look for the Yankees to keep their hot roll going.

Event: Atletico San Luis at Mazatlan
Sport/League: SOC
Date/Time: August 27, 2021 10PM EDT
Play: Atletico San Luis +0.25 (-120)
Mexico Liga MX
Mazatlan won their first two games of the season, but have since gone winless in their last four games and were held scoreless twice. Their defense has been the main issue allowing ten goals already which is tied for the 2nd most in the league. Their xG numbers are really bad as well. They are averaging just 0.78 xG per game while allowing 1.79 xGA which gives them the worst xG differential in the league.
In terms of pure volume, they are averaging just 9.2 shots per game which is the lowest in the league and of those, only 2.3 on goal which is the 2nd worst.
San Luis has just one loss in their five games so far this season and are averaging a +0.30 xG differential per game with 1.49 xG while allowing just 1.19 xGA. They haven't been putting up a ton of volume offensively, but their defense has been solid allowing just 10.6 shots per game which ranks 4th in the league.
At the end of the day this is mostly a fade of Mazatlan and grabbing the + goals on the team with a better defense.
