1st race – (3) Funnybet (B) rallied five-wide for second and was claimed by Asmussen. Finds a winning spot here. (7) Ancient Brown might respond to a cutback in distance. (6) Aidanike drops in class and could wake up here. (4) Everyotherwon might hang around until the end in this field. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-7. Exactas: 3-7 over 4-6 and 4-6 over 3-7.
3rd race – (2) Silver Dust was second at a longer trip and should work out a winning trip here. (1) Bluegrass Parkway tries claimers here and may have a class edge. Racing heads to the Bendigo Jockey Club on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program. As has been the case in Victoria in recent weeks, we are set to be racing on rain-affected ground, with the track currently rated a Soft 6, while the rail out 9m for the entire circuit. As the meeting goes on, we expect jockeys to veer away from the rail and look to use the fresh ground out wide on the grandstand rail. The day of action kicks off at 1:30pm AEDT.

The Archie Alexander-trained Mr French thrashed his rivals in a 0-58 race at Geelong on November 13, and we anticipate he will go on with the job here. The four-year-old sat outside the leader throughout on that day, and when asked for an effort at the top of the straight, he quickened nicely and managed to put 4.5 lengths on the horse back in second. From barrier nine, look for Thomas Stockdale to have this bloke settled up on speed throughout. With race fitness on his side and a genuine tempo expected, Mr French should be bounding along out in front and proving too hard to run down in the second leg of the quaddie.

We do not need to wait too long for one of our better bets on the program, as the Grahame Begg-trained Silver Up lines up in the opener. The three-year-old gelding has been unlucky at his past two starts when being forced to cover ground throughout and punching the breeze, but from barrier two on Thursday he gets his chance to gain an economical run in transit. He was beaten a lip at Sale two runs back; and when travelling four wide with no cover last time out at Pakenham, this son of Caravaggio did well to be beaten a tick over two lengths. The in-form Blake Shinn hops on board and will be given every chance throughout this maiden event. Armed with a strong turn of foot, we expect to see Silver Up claim gold in the opener.

The Lee Hope-trained Love School arguably should have broken her maiden at Seymour last time out but gets her chance to do so at career start number eight on Thursday. The All Americain mare was held up from the home turn until the final 100m, where she jumped out of the ground late to be beaten under a length. With a clear run in transit, she simply wins that event. From barrier 12 on Thursday, we expect it will be beneficial for those drawn out wide to run on, and if she repeats the effort she put in at Seymour, the $16 on offer with online betting sites looks a treat.

NSW provincial racing heads to Wyong on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program. We’re in for a terrific day of racing as the rail sits back in the true position and a Good 4 track is on the cards. The action gets underway from 1:15pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Edge Of Reward
Edge Of Reward finds a perfect race to break his maiden status on Thursday afternoon in the third event on the card. He steps back in trip from the 1400m last start at Newcastle on October 29 when beaten 0.2 lengths by Wrathful, who went on to win again, so the form looks very strong. The only reservation we have is his record this preparation continually running into seconds; he’s had plenty of excuses, whether it be barriers or lack of luck in running, but there shouldn’t be any on Thursday afternoon. With a perfect barrier four in a small field, it’ll be all about tactics for jockey Lee Magorrian. Edge Of Reward should ping the lids and look to be leading heading into the home turn, and with a fitness edge and a bit of class on his rivals, he should salute for Nathan Doyle and the team.

We’ve gone for two maiden gallopers at Wyong, this time with Diamond Drummer in the first. This Mark Newnham-trained gelding has been going well this preparation without much luck, including his last-start effort at Canterbury on November 11 when he went down to Grange Rock Star by 1.8 lengths. He travelled beautifully that day before letting down strongly but was no match for the winner, who had a class edge. This time, our guy is the class of the field. Josh Parr reunites with Diamond Drummer after being aboard for his first two starts of the preparation, and he will look to find a spot midfield with cover before utilising the horse’s strong turn of foot to get his first career win.

It’s been a long time between victories for Singapura, but he looks a great each-way bet in the last race at Wyong on Thursday afternoon. He’s yet to win a race since March of 2021 but has been around the minor money for quite some time, and we think Ian Finn has found a nice race for this five-year-old gelding by Vancouver. Forget he went around last start at Newcastle on November 12; he missed the start and hit the line well, but Floating destroyed all his rivals on that occasion. We’re more taken with his performance behind Tamerlane on November 1 at Randwick when he powered to the line; that horse has won again since, so the form looks quality for this BM64 contest. We get some nice weight relief in this class of field as well with apprentice Qin Yong getting Singapura down to 53.5kg with his 3kg claim. He gets a terrific barrier, to boot, and this clearly looks his best chance to bag his second career win.

Lightly raced gelding takes a realistic class drop to the restricted (nw-2) $16,000 claiming ranks and appears to have found his winning level. The Brian Koriner-trained sophomore has earned speed figures in each of his five career starts that are better than par for this level, and in a race that projects to have a moderate early pace the son of Curlin to Mischief should be comfortably placed on or near the lead throughout. An easy recent three furlong breeze five days ago should tick him over nicely, so at 3-1 on the morning line let’s use him on top in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics. Main contender 9-Sawasdee can be included to a lesser extent as a backup or a saver.

Top Pick: 2-Cute Khloe (5/2)
Didn’t receive any wagering action (30-1) in her debut but ran a winning race when a troubled second (off slowly, shuffled back inside on turn, beaten less than a length), in a similar straight maiden turf dash for fillies last month at Santa Anita. The daughter of Hard Spun seems likely to build on that favorable impression with three nice breezes in a healthy pattern since raced, so with good racing luck the Shelbe Ruis-trained juvenile seems capable of graduating while offering good value at or near her morning line of 5/2. For protection, you may choose to include Irish import 1-The Wild Gazer somewhere, though she seems pretty short at 6/5 on the morning line. Her form overseas is okay (not great), but she’s clearly faced tougher foes that today’s group and the Jeff Mullins barn generally does well with European imports.

Picks Notes #1 Basti Blue He didn't show a whole lot in the comeback run at Delta, but he ran a couple decent races here last year, and I really like the fact that he has a comeback race under his belt ahead of this. #2 Relic Hunter He's probably supposed to be tough here off the layoff for a barn that has had a lot of early season success here in recent years, but I also wouldn't be against making her prove it with the locals as she only has the one solid run in Opelousas. #7 Go Brother Go Think he might be a decent option from a bit further off the pace, but the price probably gets quite a bit shorter after outrunning the odds with softer at Louisiana Downs at 35/1. Race Summary Basti Blue has some appeal at a mid-range price while bringing flat form, but his best work has come over the local footing and there is upside today off that last run.
Fair Grounds - Race #8
Picks Notes #4 Uninvited Guest His two local tries were both pretty solid, and I think he's capable of something a bit better than he showed in that last try at Horseshoe Indianapolis. First jump chance here at what I'm hoping will be something a bit better than the 5/1 ML price? Capable on the main, too, if it comes to that. #9 Dust Em He only goes on the main today, but he brings form that makes him look like the right one if this gets rained over. #8 Beachcombing He has done some good work over the local footing and should be in line for a tactical trip right up near the splits. Think he's maybe a bit overbet in a competitive race, but he'd be no surprise here. Race Summary My main piece of advice in turf routes here is this: give a long look to everything Brian Hernandez, Jr. rides going long on the grass once he gets here from Churchill. He was heads and shoulders above the rest of the colony here last year in these two-turn races. Uninvited Guest gets the edge here with a chance on either surface.
Picks Notes #4 Chattalot Guessing he got something out of that comeback run when showing speed and fading badly at Keeneland, but I imagine that was meant to get a race into him ahead of a winter sprint campaign. He might be the most committed early in a race with players who want to settle just a bit and finish. Front-end threat. #3 Surveillance He's a pretty honest finisher with a ceiling high enough to win this if he runs his best race, and I think there are some fairly appealing names in the company lines. Mild worry about the race shape, but he wouldn't be a shock. #6 Carribean Caper She's in with the boys for the first time while cutting back a furlong off her first career loss last time out, and she might get a decent enough go of things from a spying spot. Her only local try produced a romping maiden win. Race Summary Chattalot gets a pretty strong lean for me in the feature, as two of his best lifetime races came at this exact local trip, and I think he might be quick enough to control the tempo while the rest sort themselves out behind him.
