4th race [Clm 20000, 1 mi] – (4) Chris and Dave will be making his last start at a NYRA track because 10-year-olds are not allowed to run. He is the winner of more than $879,000 with a record of 87: 17-23-12. Thus, he makes a big drop down to the $20,000 level. (1) Dark Storm and (1A) Pioneer Spirit are both win contenders for the Kantarmaci barn. (6) Truculent gets blinkers on and drops down in claiming price from $40,000 where he was taken two races back. (5) Hammerin Aamer was claimed from his last three starts and goes back to the barn of Bruce Levine.
5th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (4) Zapruder (B) will make his second start for Bill Mott after drifting to the back in his turf debut and then rallying wide, fastest of all. (1) Bourbon Chase has a pair of seconds as the odds-on favorite to start his career for Todd Pletcher and gets blinkers on. (5) Sharpaz pressed the pace in his first start on the turf and now as a son of Sharp Azteca should appreciate the main track. (2) Wanna Winna was on the lead in his second start on a muddy Aqueduct track and finished fourth.
6th race [NY, OC45k/N2X, 1 1/8 mi] – (5) Six Percent exits a third and a second in NY-bred stakes races with a win before that in a claimer by almost 11 lengths. (2) Sundaeswithsandy won his last two starts since moving back to the dirt with a career high speed figure last time. (6) Prince of Pharoahs was claimed for $32,000 last start when he set the pace and finished third. He is projected to be on the lead again and in for the claiming option. (4) Baldizar won both of his races which were at the BAQ meeting for the Bond barn with front running efforts. He went from a maiden special weight victory to the first-level allowance.
7th race [Md 20000, 6F] – (4) Divine Wine drops from a maiden special weight for Linda Rice after she claimed her for $40,000 and the blinkers go on. (2) Gracefully Wild finished second in 4 out of her last 5 starts and is projected to be on the lead in this field. (3) Mostly Harmless set the pace in her last start going a mile and finished fourth in her first try at today’s level. (7) Boxed in and Bored has four starts at Finger Lakes most recently in a maiden special weight going two turns and now cuts back in distance for Chris Englehart who is good shipping to Aqueduct.

1st race – (8) Certain (B) worked fast for his debut at Keeneland and ran into some tough MSW. Might turn in a better showing here in a claimer. (2) Souper Quest debuts for Casse and could prove best in this field. (3) Poker Nite At Toms is another firster who could be a factor here. (4) Pucaro put in a fast gate work for this. Betting strategy: 8 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-4-8.
3rd race – (1) Inspired Mischief missed by a neck and can prevail here despite facing tougher company. (7) Covert Kat was second in his last three starts and can complete the exacta again. (6) Awesome Crusader has been second or third in seven of his last eight starts and belongs in the exotics. (2) Frosted Faith has speed and may like Tapeta. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-7. Exactas: 1-7 over 2-6 and 2-6 over 1-7.
5th race – (1) My Sea Cottage is working sharply for his comeback race and should be hard to collar from the rail. (10) Worlds On High should be a stretch threat here. (4) Hollywoodhellraisr should welcome a return to turf. (9) Sir Samuel should make his presence felt in this field. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-4-9-10.
7th race – (6) Hoax flopped last time but can bounce back here. (1) Strike Jak was game winner of her debut and should be the main rival. (2) Toquether should take to Tapeta after winning her debut on turf. (3) Le Boiana fits in nicely with this group. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-3-6. Doubles: 1-2-3-6 with 1-4-5-8.
8th race – (1) Mish flopped last time but was given a break and seems set for a big effort here. (8) Jesus’ Team could be a main factor off his best try. (5) Super Cortino was second in his U.S. debut and cannot be ignored. (4) Clapton likes this course and should be in the mix once again. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-4-5-8.

RACE 5: ZAPRUDER (#4)
Bourbon Chase (#1) has been the runner-up in both starts despite going off as the odds-on favorite each time. He was beaten by a pretty good foe on debut, but I would have liked to see him take more of a step forward last time, when he had to work hard to merely secure second. He now stretches out as a son of Practical Joke, who has better stats with his sprinters overall, though the dam did win going a mile. Pletcher has a $1.29 ROI in an 89-horse sample with maidens adding blinkers on dirt over 5 years. I prefer horses exiting other races. Inspector (#3) was rumored to be a good one ahead of his debut, and hasn’t delivered on the promise. Yet he’s been hampered by some gate issues and hasn’t run as badly as it might seem in either start. He now stretches out as a son of solid dirt route sire Flatter. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him show more speed if he can finally break cleanly. My top pick is Zapruder (#4). This homebred debuted going long on turf where he was never seriously involved. However, a close viewing of that race suggests that he may have some upside. This gelding showed some immaturity throughout, but he was really running through the wire once he was fully set down for the stretch drive. Trakus caught him getting his final quarter in 23.21 seconds, and a final sixteenth in a flashy 5.75 seconds. What’s more interesting is that he’s actually bred for dirt. The dam has produced 6 dirt winners from 7 winning foals, including stakes winner Blindwillie McTell and solid allowance type Duquesne Whistle. Bill Mott is 13 for 54 (24%, $2.25 ROI) with maidens switching from turf to dirt routes over the past 5 years. I’m expecting a better effort this time.
RACE 6: BALDIZAR (#4)
Six Percent (#5) will probably go favored here as he finds himself in a softer state-bred N2X allowance than the spot he contested last time. There aren’t any rivals as good as winner Curlin’s Wisdom in this field, so perhaps the class relief will be enough to get him back to the winner’s circle. However, I have some reservations with this gelding. He did get the job done three back at Saratoga going this distance, but that was a weaker conditioned claiming race. He’s really hasn’t been much of a winning type throughout his career and can be pretty one-paced late in his races when push comes to shove. He makes plenty of sense on paper, but I want to look elsewhere if he’s a short price. I actually prefer the runner drawn just to his outside, Prince of Pharoahs (#6). He also faced a tougher rival in his last start when proving no match for the vastly improved Ebben in an open claimer. That was his first start back off a layoff and he was claimed out of that race by Mertkan Kantarmaci. This barn does a great job off the claim, going 14 for 68 (21%, $2.05 ROI) with that move in dirt routes at NYRA over the past 5 years. Prince of Pharoahs ran a race back in June at Belmont over a route distance that would make him awfully tough against this group. Yet I think there’s an interesting option in this race who I’m hoping will get overlooked. Baldizar (#4) appears too slow to beat this field off his two prior speed figures. However, I think this horse may be better than the form indicates. He won his debut despite racing a bit greenly, hanging on his left lead until they hit the wire. While he took a step backwards from a speed figure standpoint in his second start, that was an uncompetitive affair where he was never truly asked for his best against inferior rivals. He won that race under a light hand ride, yet still produced a final quarter in a strong 23.88 seconds. I just get the sense that there’s talent and upside here, and he figures to go off at a fair price with Heman Harkie named to ride. There isn’t that much speed drawn to his inside, and Harkie can be aggressive in these situations. The horse is bred to handle added ground and goes out for a barn that does very well with last-out winners.
RACE 9: RUNABOUT (#9)
I have some questions about both likely favorites in this finale. Styner (#5) will take money off a string of flashy speed figures earned at Monmouth, Parx, and Finger Lakes. While he’s met some decent rivals in a few of those races, he’s also beaten weaker fields on a few occasions. Notably, all of those races have come around two turns, so this turnback to 7 furlongs could be a real hurdle for him. He prefers to race close to the pace and may just not possess the tactical speed to get forward against this field without paying a price. Easy Day (#7) will also take money off his runner-up finish to Greeley and Ben in a similar spot last time. He was obviously flattered when that rival came back to win the Fall Highweight in his next start. However, I wonder how much this horse was carried along by that superior foe last time, as prior recent speed figures don’t quite approach that level. I want to look elsewhere, as I think this race is more competitive than it might initially appear. Colonel Bowman (#4) is one option as he switches into the barn of David Jacobson, who is 5 for 12 (42%, $3.33 ROI) off trainer switches on dirt over the past 5 years. He beat a solid field at Santa Anita last time and looks like a well-bred sort who may finally be coming around after dropping to get a confidence boost. My top pick is Runabout (#9), who figures to be a bigger price. The fact that he’s even running in this protected spot seems notable for a horse who would seemingly fit in a cheaper claiming event. Rudy Rodriguez obviously does well off the claim in many situations, but specifically with horses who are not entered for a tag in their first start off the claim on dirt he is 14 for 53 (26%, $2.54 ROI) over the past 5 years. Runabout actually faced a pretty good field of $16k claimers last time, from which the fifth-place finisher came back to win last weekend. Prior to that he had been rounding into form, and I don’t mind the turnback here since he figures to get some pace to ahead of him.

Race 6: Starter Optional Claiming
#5 Dem a Wonder has hit the board in five straight races over this track and at this class level. You can always count on her to show up with a solid effort. #4 My Destiny will go for three in a row today after back to back wins at Los Alamitos. We will see if that for can hold up at Gulfstream Park.
Race 7: Allowance Optional Claiming

#4 Jellybean gets back to the synthetic surface today, while also dropping down in class, which should lead to an improve effort. #6 Hoax also will move back to the synthetic for this one, which his where she won two starts back over this track.
Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming
#1 Mish returns from a layoff today; however, he will be getting some solid class relief. Last year, he won three straight races at Gulfstream Park against similar runners. #5 Super Corinto was a solid second at this class level in his first start in the United States. He should improve off of that effort today.
Race 9: Maiden Claiming
#6 Inscrutable drops down in class to the maiden claiming ranks today after running decently against maiden special weight runners. This class drop should make her the one to beat. #4 Always Royal will try the turf today, while also stretching out in distance, which should help her chances.

#3 The Three Ks All my early plays will revolve around this one as he goes second off the break after going clear on the wrong lead before getting reeled in. Think he'll run these off their feet.
#6 Bitsy's Custom C He has done all of his career work with better groups than he's going to find here, but he went to the bench in July after a flat effort and has one December work posted since. He's capable, but I'm skeptical.
#1 Argybargy Buck He has some pace to flash from the inside, but I think the top choice is probably quicker early from a draw that will allow him to hassle this guy from the start. He's got a high enough ceiling to be interesting here, I just worry he takes the worst of it.
Race Summary The Three Ks showed sharp pace and cleared in the comeback run, but he was just weary late on the wrong lead, so I'm guessing there might be something better here after he tired late in that one. Single for me.
Fair Grounds - Race #4

#4 Mo Bling Nothing too creative here, but I think she's got a right to be tough after a good effort in her local debut here last month. Tactical type should be in range throughout.
#1 Kittenofthe Court She stayed on well when stepping up to this level in her first start of the meet, and I don't think she's overmatched here. That said, she has historically been a little cheap, so I wonder if she can hold this form at this level?
#5 Anita's Vision Let's see what she's able to bring off the three-month break here, as her form has been in a pretty consistent good race/bad race pattern, but she has fired well fresh off similar layoffs before. Capable.
Race Summary Mo Bling gets the edge as the most likely winner in here, but there are a couple capable options if you're against the likely chalk.
Fair Grounds - Race #7
Picks Notes
#4 Phileas Fogg He'll go first time out in what feels like the one to the softer races at this level that you'll see here based on what we've seen on paper so far. Wouldn't be surprised to see him handle this group out of the box.
#2 Baseline Beater He finished with some energy in that last one when trying a one-turn mile at Churchill, and he might like the move around two turns here. That said, his lack of early speed is a real worry for me, even though I think he has some claim on this.
#6 Step on It He was a bit one-paced in the Delta debut back in October, but he might be able to find a good spot from close range early at this kind of trip.
Race Summary Think #5 Single Ruler has some chance in a race with no standouts, but Phileas Fogg is a fresh face in a race that isn't super strong on paper for the level. Get a good look at him on the track and tote.

The Jets have been scoring a ton of goals lately, and play the Blues today who have been particularly leaky in the goals-against department with 5 GA on average in recent action. The Blues offense has been contributing, with 4 goals or more in their last five games, but it hasn't proved enough to win with consistency. Binnington has struggled in net recently, and the Blues are down a couple of defensemen. Look for a relatively high-scoring game, as is the norm these days, as the Jets, in particular, take advantage of a shaky Blues defense and PK.
