FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR THURSDAY, 1/11:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers.

The last play I cut for Thursday afternoon is with Matt Kuchar-115 in Round One head-to-head props versus Akshay Bhatia. Kuchar is very reliable at the PGA Sony Open at the Wai’alae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawai’i. The short course consisting of 7044 yards is a great fit for his accurate irons. Kuchar won this tournament in 2019 — and he has seven top 10s overall here. The veteran remains in good form with three top-20 finishes worldwide in the fall. Kuchar is linked with Akshay Bhatia in Round One head-to-head props. Bhatia finished tied for 14th place in his debut at The Sentry in Maui last week — but he has not finished better than 10th place in his last nine tournaments. This will be Bhatia’s debut at the Wai’alae Country Club — and course history has offered a significant advantage at this event. Only one of the last 19 winners of the PGA Sony Open was making their professional debut at this tournament. Take Kuchar (7142) versus Bhatia (7141) in Round One head-to-head props. Best of luck — Frank.

    1* FREE PLAY Pittsburgh-124

As Vancouver nears the end of a long Eastern road trip, Pittsburgh at this price becomes a very attractive investment option in our opinion. The Canucks lost the opener of this trop 2-1 at St. Louis, but they've since rattled off three straight as the dog in New Jersey, New York and and the Islanders. And with upcoming games at Buffalo and Columbus still to come, we think the visitors get caught looking ahead. Pittsburgh has had two nights off after a 4-1 win at Philly and we feel that it's well worth the price of admission in this spot; consider the Penguins on Thursday night!

Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Milwaukee Bucks -6

This is a great spot for the Milwaukee Bucks. They are rested and ready to go after having the last two days off. They are also highly motivated for a victory after going 1-4 SU & 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall, including consecutive upset losses to Houston and Utah.

But the Bucks get Damian Lillard back tonight and will be fully healthy now. They will be playing with a chip on their shoulder with everyone crowning the Boston Celtics the best team in the East. It's a Celtics team that has several injury questions coming into this one, especially since they are playing the 2nd of a back-to-back.

But this isn't just any 2nd of a back-to-back. The Celtics needed OT to keep their perfect 18-0 home record intact. Brown played 43 minutes, Tatum 42, White 43, Holiday 40 and Horford 38 last night. They were already without Porzingis, and don't be surprised if some other starters sit tonight. It will also be the 5th game in 7 days for the Celtics, which is as tough as it gets in the NBA today. Bet the Bucks Thursday.

    MIKE'S CELTICS/BUCKS NBA FREE PICK

The Celtics might be a better team than the Bucks, but this is a tough spot for the visitors who will play the second game in as many nights following a 127-120 win over Minnesota last night.

The Bucks last played on Jan 8, when they lost 132-116 to Utah. They're now coming off back-to-back losses and I think we'll see a hyper-motivated and well-rested Bucks team run away with this game.

Thursday NBA Free play. My selection is on the 'under' 233.5 between New York and Dallas at 8:40 pm et on Thursday.

Perhaps only the Pelicans are as locked-in defensively as the Knicks right now as New York has held five straight and six of its last seven opponents to 40 or fewer made field goals. You would have to go back eight games to find the last time the Knicks allowed an opponent to get off 90 or more field goal attempts. The Mavericks are expected to be without Luka Doncic on Thursday. They've been limited to 43 or fewer made field goals in four of their last five contests. While they're coming off a poor showing against the Grizzlies two nights ago, I don't mind their defensive posture right now. Dallas has allowed 44 or fewer made field goals in four straight games and the only reason its last two opponents got into the 40's was thanks to playing fast (94 and 91 field goal attempts). I don't anticipate the Knicks employing such a strategy here, noting they check in averaging 89 field goal attempts per game on the road this season. The 'under' is 17-10 in the Knicks last 27 road games as a favorite of six points or less and 24-14 in their last 38 contests following a win by 15 points or more, as is the case here. Meanwhile, the Mavs have seen the 'under' cash at a 16-9 clip in their last 25 games as a home underdog. Take the under.

This is a play on the SANTA CLARA BRONCOS+9 for our Thursday Free Play. Santa Clara is off to a 2-0 start in the West Coast Conference for the first time since 2003-04 and this could be the spot it finally breaks through against Gonzaga for the first time since 2011. This offense can keep up against one of the best in the country as the Broncos are ranked No. 3 in the WCC in scoring at 76.6 ppg and lead the conference and are No. 37 in the country at 37.4 percent from beyond the arc. Santa Clara is 5-2 at home this season with losses against very good teams in Yale and Utah St. and both were within the number it is getting tonight. Gonzaga is also off to a 2-0 start in the conference following a pair of home blowout wins. The offense is humming along as the Bulldogs are No. 14 in shooting and No. 17 in scoring but have a test against this Broncos defense which are holding opponents to 40.6 percent shooting and they have held opponents under 38 percent shooting on seven occasions. This is just the second true road game for Gonzaga and first in over a month with the road opener resulting in a loss at Washington. Play (822) Santa Clara Broncos

    7* NBA - Suns/Lakers Free Pick

    PLAY ON: Suns +1.5

I'm on the Suns at +1.5 in Thursday's road game against the Lakers. With LA having won their last two and Phoenix off a couple of ugly losses (first it was a loss at home vs the Grizzlies without Mortant and then a 27-point blowout loss at the Clippers), it feels like the books are begging you to take the Lakers at basically a pick'em. Not me. I don't trust this Lakers team at all. They should have lost to the Raptors last time out (refs helped them big time) and only won by 3 the game before. They could easily be on a 6-game losing streak. Even with those 2 wins, they are just 4-9 over their last 13 games and just 5-10 ATS in their last 15. Suns are also the fresher team, playing with 2 days off compared to just 1 day for LA. Give me Phoenix +1.5!
