    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mahoning Valley - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#1 Lady Lottie Price probably won't be much, but she should be tough from the fence in a spot where she should be able to control the pace. Shakes clear to score?
#4 Epicurean She's aiming for a fifth straight score, and she's got enough pace to keep an eye on the top choice early and try to engage on the turn. In the mix.
#5 Shewearsmyring Don't think she's a really serious threat on top, but I wonder if she might clunk past a couple of these late for a small share in a short field.
Race Summary Lady Lottie and Epicurean look like the two to settle the score today, but the former has a little pace edge from the fence and might be able to turn them all away today.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #7
    Picks Notes
#1 Beautiful Charade Don't think this is going to be the deepest local group for the level, so she has some apparent upside after showing some tracking pace and fading in the debut. Wouldn't be a shock to see her be a bit tighter today.
#3 Stick Around She's supposed to be tough here on overall form with three underneath shares through as many starts, but she also hasn't been in the same zip code as the winner in any of those tries, so I'm not sure I want to be here at a short price on principle.
#6 Justworthashot Debuter won't have to be a star to land a piece of this at first asking, so take a look at her on the track and tote ahead of this.
Race Summary Beautiful Charade can probably hang around a bit better today, and she might be quick enough to get a jump on Stick Around that lets her hold late.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #8
    Picks Notes
#9 Knock Wood He has turned in a couple sprint tries that would keep him in the frame with these, and the even route run last out might have him set for something a touch better. Let's see if enough pace shows to help him out.
#2 Media Darling Speed was very good here last season and landed a stakes win, but he'll need to fire fresh with a couple other potential forward players lined up. Best stuff would be too good for these.
#4 Palace Temptation He ran on pretty nicely last out behind a winner who is in wildly sharp form right now, and he might get past some of these in the lane to land a share.
Race Summary Knock Wood turns back today and might find a decent midpack spot while watching things unfold. Think he's capable at a midrange price.

    Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

    Penn National - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#9 STARLITE WALKER (5-2) Good speed, drops below claim level, might need passing gear.
#2 SUMMER ASH (8-1) Piling up the checks, benefits most from lively pace scenario.
#8 BO’S BOURBON (2-1) ‘Bo’ knows how to sprint to clear leads, romping in 3 of last 10 starts.
Race Summary STARLITE WALKER pressed a fast pace while 3-wide on the turn and faded out of the money as the favorite. But he drops in class and draws a favorable post at his most proven distance. Bet to win and place and play a 2-8-9 exacta box.
    Penn National - Race #3
    Picks Notes
#2 LADRO DI FICHI (9-2) Will have every chance in this field to shake ‘bridesmaid’ role.
#3 LONDON LADY (6-1) Change in tactics backfired in 5-horse field, hit board in 15 of 17 at 6F.
#10 DOWSER (2-1) Versatile, check-getting sprinter was beaten fave after dueling in last pair.
Race Summary LADRO DI FICHI, second in 6 of 14 starts last year at various distances, runs for her cheapest tag yet She changes barns, changes pilots and cuts back to a distance at which she missed in a photo finish. Bet to win and place.
    Penn National - Race #6
    Picks Notes
#7 I’M NOT A BABY (3-1) Steady router projects ideal trip for new connections in second start as a 5yo.
#2 LLOYD (2-1) Ran away to maiden upset in a six-horse field on a sloppy track.
#6 BUSHWICK BRUISER (4-1) Some late interest in last two starts at this level, use in gimmicks.
Race Summary I’M NOT A BABY rallied for minor awards in his last five starts, all going a route of ground. He should get ample pace flow with several stretch-out sprinters in the field and can upgrade to a victory as a result. Bet to win and place.

    Race 6 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $27000 Class Rating: 79

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 127 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE JANUARY 28 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $15,000, FOR EACH $2,500 TO $10,000 1 LB.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 3 RIVIERE 8/5
    # 7 ROSE DARLING 5/1
    # 4 SHEAR 3/1

RIVIERE has a quite good shot to take this race. Is tough not to consider given the company run in recently. Has to be considered against this group displaying very strong numbers lately and an average speed figure of 72 under similar conditions. This filly with Leon in the saddle makes her a solid contender. ROSE DARLING - Put up a respectable speed figure last time out. With Machado getting the mount, watch out for this horse. SHEAR - Looks very good for the conditions of this competition today, showing solid figures in dirt route races as of late. Will probably go to the front end and may never look back.

    Turf Paradise - Race #5 - Post: 2:54pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,500 Class Rating: 80

    Rating:

    #4 RESPOND (ML=5/1)
    #1 BRANNIGAN (ML=3/1)

RESPOND - Took a big class drop last out, and I think he may have needed it. Evans enters him at a similar class level today. I'd expect an improved performance. This gelding has higher odds on the morning line than the other entrant from the stable of Evans. Better watch out for this angle. Has the look of a possible overlay in this event at odds of 5/1. Finished sixth in last race at Golden Gate Fields but was close at the finish line. BRANNIGAN - Jockey hops right back on board after getting to know the beautiful animal by riding last race out. That's always a good thing. I like that most recent outing on Feb 15th at Turf Paradise where he ended up third.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #6 MOON TIME (ML=4/1), #5 KURT'S CHOICE (ML=9/2), #7 HOT MEMORIES (ML=5/1),

MOON TIME - Just can't play this less than sharp equine. Didn't show me anything last time out or on January 18th. KURT'S CHOICE - Finished fifth on Feb 14th after the very long layoff. Doubtful if there will be improvement in this affair. 9/2 odds isn't enough for this participant when scrutinizing the most recent efforts. HOT MEMORIES - 5/1 is just too low of a price to take on most any entrant that has run poorly in back to back outings.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 RESPOND to win if you can get at least 2/1 odds
    EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,4]

    Race 5 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $15400 Class Rating: 90

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE JANUARY 28 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 2 BLAME IT ON EDDIE 5/2
    # 7 PARKER 8/1
    # 5 CAMP PENDLETON 6/1

BLAME IT ON EDDIE is the most competitive bet in this race. He has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the most competitive in this field. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Vecchio running at this distance are the most respectable in this group. Trainers don't bring mounts back this quickly without a good reason. PARKER - Ought to come out sharp - I have liked the way this gelding has moved promptly to the front end recently. With a sound 75 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's outing.

    Parx Racing - Race #1 - Post: 12:05pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 59

    Rating:

    #6 WHISKEY PRIZE (ML=5/2)

WHISKEY PRIZE - You don't need to look any further. This racer has my money. Way too much speed. The February 7th affair at Parx Racing was at a class level of (66). Dropping down the class ladder considerably, so he should be in a good position. Last raced at Parx Racing carrying 5 lbs more. The lower weight right here should serve him well.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 BIRTHDAY BOND ROB (ML=2/1), #3 BEAR OR BULL (ML=7/2), #7 SOCIAL JOE (ML=6/1),

BIRTHDAY BOND ROB - A pattern of decreasing speed ratings 59/56/35 for this mount. Garnered a pedestrian speed fig last out in a $10,000 Maiden Claiming race on February 12th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that figure. BEAR OR BULL - When looking at today's class rating, he will have to earn a better speed figure than last time out to be competitive in this dirt route. SOCIAL JOE - This racer has no victories at Parx Racing.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #6 WHISKEY PRIZE to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though
    EXACTA WAGERS: None

    TRIFECTA WAGERS:
    None
