    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Fair Grounds - Race #5
    Picks Notes
#1 Intermittent Fast She'll make her turf debut off the claim while racing fresh off the November break, and I think she's quick enough to get in the conversation early at this trip from the inside draw. Could be dangerous if she beats the wideout to the front.
#9 Imaboutago Nothing wrong with the sharp pace score on debut at Gulfstream in December, and her speed should make her dangerous from this outside draw while getting Lasix off the short break. Tough.
#6 Tipsy Runner She has been super reliable on the turf here this season, but I think she's going to need to be a touch closer today if she's going to get all the way over the top. Wouldn't argue too much with anyone landing here.
Race Summary Intermittent Fast and Imaboutago might be the pair trying to settle the score at the turn in, but the former might like this trip while trying the turf for the first time.
    Fair Grounds - Race #7
    Picks Notes
#10 Might As Well He couldn't stay after tracking the pace in the debut, but he probably has some upside with that first two-turn try under his belt. Think he'll be in the right kind of spot in a race without a ton of confirmed speed.
#1 Night Out He moved up nicely on the grass last out, and I could see him getting a really cozy trip from the inside while showing just a little bit of positional pace into the first turn. Wouldn't surprise.
#7 Justifreak The form here has been hit or miss so far, but there are a couple decent names in the company lines on his page, and he might have some room to come forward while getting on the grass for the first time.
Race Summary Might As Well comes back at second asking with a couple works under his belt since that debut run, and I'm hoping he'll sustain his pressing pace just a bit better this time around.
    Fair Grounds - Race #8
    Picks Notes
#4 Our Heatseeker He rolled on the engine to graduate in the second start off the break, and that kind of breakout performance can bode well for a horse rising to face winners. No surprise right back.
#6 Skinny Bobby He's another who rolled a cheap group to land the first win, and he tried a much better group at the $25,000 level in the next start. Think he finds his more logical home now.
#10 Gobot He didn't run poorly in the first start off the claim while racing for more than twice this price, but I worry he'll be along too late to score today.
Race Summary Our Heatseeker seems playable right back while stepping up off the easy score last time out, and I think he can probably run from just a touch off the pace if needed while facing a few other forward players.

    Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

    Penn National - Race #1
    Picks Notes
#2 PROM KNIGHT (10-1) Has workouts and bloodlines to merit upset look in career bow.
#8 GREAT KISSER (5-2) Heavily bet in both starts, close-up to stretch, came up empty, gets blinkers.
#3 EASTER BET (6-1) Advanced 5-wide, got past Great Kisser for show spot despite lugging in.
Race Summary PROM KNIGHT shows a series of fast morning breezes over the track, hoping to follow the footsteps of her dam, Spring Dance, who won a Maiden Special Weight sprint by 13 lengths in her debut at Penn National, followed with a stakes victory and earned $199k with a 5-14 record. Play a 2-ALL exacta.
    Penn National - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#5 FIRE DOWN BELOW (4-1) Finished last in three starts in 2023, could awaken on class drop.
#6 MY BLUE EYES (2-1) Led and held third in his last three starts under these conditions.
#1 ANNAMATED MOON (5-1) Form tailed off late last year, perhaps waited to be eligible for this spot.
Race Summary Not much recent form in this bottom-level claimer, so going with class dropper FIRE DOWN BELOW, who showed more speed in the morning for his first start at age 8 than he did in three starts last year. Have to respect his 6-19 record over the track. Bet to win and place.
    Penn National - Race #5
    Picks Notes
#1 GOLDEN EIB MICRPHN (4-1) Liked the finish, like the chances to improve in this barn, today’s Best Bet.
#7 ME DARLIN KATHLEEN (3-1) Just won in same spot off similar rest, good post to use speed from.
#2 JACK’S LILLY (9-2) Two wins and two seconds in last five starts while ascending through ranks.
Race Summary GOLDEN EIB MICRPHN handled the class hike off the Kreiser claim well. She saved ground while stalking the even-money pace setter, finished full of run in the final sixteenth after the winner passed by on the outside and continued strong on the gallop out. Bet to win and place and play 1-2 and 1-7 exactas

    Gulfstream Park - Race #7 - Post: 4:07pm - Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $31,000 Class Rating: 90

    Rating:

    #3 MR NARCISSISTIC (ML=5/2)
    #4 STERLING HARMONY (ML=3/1)
    #5 ACADEMY CHOICE (ML=2/1)

MR NARCISSISTIC - Don't often see a positive ROI like +34. This jockey/trainer duet has done well together over the last 12 months. Gaffalione is back up for another affair today after sitting atop this horse for the 1st time on February 18th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. I look for this horse to sit off the pace and make a strong move on the turn, cruising straight on to the wire. Gelding failed to win as the public choice in a $16,000 Claiming race last time out. Was a good race even though he finished second. This gelding is in nice form. Ran second on February 18th. The 91 most recent race speed figure looks sound in the TrackMaster PPs. STERLING HARMONY - This thoroughbred coming off a sharp try in the last thirty days is a win candidate in my humble opinion. ACADEMY CHOICE - I am keen on that last effort on Feb 18th at Gulfstream Park where he finished fourth.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #7 MAYHEMINTHEPALACE (ML=6/1), #6 DROPKICK MURPHY (ML=6/1),

MAYHEMINTHEPALACE - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance events recently. Unlikely to see him doing it this time around either. DROPKICK MURPHY - The Brain tells me to keep away from horses in sprint races that haven't finished in the money in short distance races recently.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #3 MR NARCISSISTIC to win if you can get odds of 5/2 or more
    EXACTA WAGERS: 3 with [4,5]

    TRIFECTA WAGERS:

    Race 6 - Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $27000 Class Rating: 91

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 117 LBS.; OLDER, 125 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE FEBRUARY 20 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $30,000, IF FOR $25,000, ALLOWED 2 LBS.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 2 CASH FEVER 5/2
    # 1 GRACIOUS KAT 10/1
    # 4 PROUD CIVILIAN 6/1

I like CASH FEVER here. Has run solidly when moving a dirt sprint race. Will probably go to the lead and could never look back. Should be given a chance in this race if only for the solid Equibase Speed Fig put up in the last race. GRACIOUS KAT - Is a key contender - given the 80 speed figure from his most recent race. Tough to pass on this gelding with McMahon in the saddle. PROUD CIVILIAN - Well above average win rate at this distance/surface. With a very good 91 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this outing.

    Race 2 - Claiming - 6.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $18000 Class Rating: 83

FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NOT WON TWO RACES SINCE SEPTEMBER 20. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE FEBRUARY 20 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 2 AVA K'S BOY 3/1
    # 3 THE ANGRY MAN 15/1
    # 6 LORD UHTRED 9/2

AVA K'S BOY figures to be the bet in here. He has earned strong figures under today's conditions and should fare well against this group. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Ruiz will most likely have this gelding in excellent position to win the contest. Shows strong Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. THE ANGRY MAN - Shows strong Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this field. LORD UHTRED - Has competed well in dirt sprint races. Recorded a solid Equibase Speed Fig in the last race. Can run another good one in this race.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #8 - Post: 4:12pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $31,800 Class Rating: 45

    Rating:

    #3 PARLAY CHARLIE (ML=8/5)
    #6 OLYMPIC WINGS (ML=5/1)

PARLAY CHARLIE - Finished 2nd, but easily 2nd over the third horse. Those types usually run well next time out. Aboard this horse on Feb 28th and Colina is yet again in the irons in today's race. This thoroughbred brings in a lot of money per race. I believe she can add to the lifetime bankroll in this race. OLYMPIC WINGS - The February 28th race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour was at a class level of (53). Dropping down the ladder based on class rating points considerably, so she should be in a good spot. This filly is in nice form. Ran third on February 28th.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #2 AZ WE SPEAK (ML=7/2), #7 WORK'N ON A BUZZ (ML=4/1), #5 OPIE'S GIRL (ML=8/1),

AZ WE SPEAK - Doesn't appear to have enough positive angles to warrant the value. WORK'N ON A BUZZ - Doesn't look to have enough positive qualities to support the reward. OPIE'S GIRL - This filly hasn't had any recent success in short distance contests. Not easy to invest in her in this affair.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #3 PARLAY CHARLIE to win if you can get at least 7/5 odds
    EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,6]
