Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a 0.50 Pick 5 that has a $10,000 guaranteed pool and it rolls in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)
1-Backstreet Shadow (2-1)-Started inside last week, pulled at around the 5/8's pole and took the lead going 1st over into a quick 3rd quarter. Stood tall down the lane and is a threat to double up.
2-Covered Bridge (7/2)-Not sure if a win still helps this veteran get into the Borgata Finals. But either way he will be trying to win. Desperate Man has been a monster, so coming 2nd to him is not an embarrassment and may fare better tonight.
5-Coaches Corner (3/1)-Has been a 2nd place finisher in all 4 Borgata races. Probably comes off its top effort last week and it’s best to not overlook.
Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)
2-Linedrive Hanover (4/5)-Didn't take any prisoners on 4-1 and has rested since then. Is certainly the one to beat if dialed on high. Not going to single after missing a start and doesn't really not need to win to get to the Final but is the one to beat.
3-Hellabalou (7/2)-Has the gate speed to land in the pocket behind the odds-on choice. If there is going to be an upset this veteran has a tactical advantage over others and doesn't have a Borgata win.
Race 11 (10:20 PM EST)
4-Cleveland B Miki (12-1)-Rallied nicely to come 3rd in the 1st start on Lasix and steps up. Now goes off Lasix, that's an angle that piques my interest, and the price is right to use.
6-Twin B Deluxe (7/2)-Has been a bridesmaid in the last 3 starts and the winners are not in this field. Tim Tetrick should get a close-up seat off the gate and may have met a beatable field.
Race 12 (10:40 PM EST)
1-Quality Bud (4-1)-Comes off a nice win and now steps-up but isn't alone. Loses Yannick Gingras but usual pilot Brent Holland is back. Drawing the rail should help and could offer a square price.
3-Fulsome (5/2)-Has cashed checks versus $50k claimers but hasn't had enough pop to take a picture. Tuggin On My Heart doesn't have to be dealt with tonight and Gingras will have this 6-year-old on his toes.
4-Walkinshaw N (5-1)-Makes the 4th start off the bench, could be overlooked and the last 2 races have been better. This is a wide-open affair and if Austin Siegelman provides a sharp steer, it could be picture.
6-Rock Diamonds N (6-1)-Also makes the 4th start after a hiatus and has been overmatched. Drops to a spot to shine and Joe B could get the top and play catch me if you can.

Picks Notes #4 Rockin Boots He'll go second off the three-month break, and his grinding style might serve him well against this bunch. Think he's going to be tough today. #1 Rockstar Red Tough call for me, as there are a couple of decent names in his company lines, but I'm not totally sold about him turning back to this sprint trip on the main with most of the solid form on his page having come in turf routes. #5 Kissofthenile He has some competitive running lines, but he has also already had 21 chances, so he's tough to trust on top under any circumstance even if he's one of the logical players. Race Summary Rockin Boots feels honest enough to lean on a little bit in a race where a couple of the other key players might take more action while having more questions to answer. I'd be happy sitting there as maybe the second choice?
Will Rogers Downs - Race #9
Picks Notes #7 Yvonne's Miss She might be a little cheap for this group overall, but she has really honest form and meets a handful of pace players who should give her something to kick at. She has been putting it all together in recent races, and another small step forward would keep her in the frame. #4 Take Me Serious Wouldn't be shocked to see her score here as the best of the forward players, and she's a pretty tough proposition today if she improves off that solid comeback from the long break. #1 Always Angels She makes more sense underneath, if anywhere, but she might be able to save some ground before running on late, and she's not meeting anything like Taxed today. Race Summary Yvonne's Miss should be a decent enough price, and I'm hoping an honest race shape will give her a chance to punch past these late.
Picks Notes #6 Gospel Expression Not a whole lot of finishing punch lined up today, and her occasional ability to get past horses might serve her well enough to land the diploma. #9 Red Rose Cafe Considered her on top and think she's a logical winner, as she drops back in with friends after trying a stakes group in her local debut. Her Sam Houston baseline might do the job here. #7 Goldie's Legacy Absolutely nothing but brief pace and hard fades through two starts, but she's back off the long break for a team that has been doing sharp work so far here this season. Small look at a price. Race Summary Gospel Expression might get a good race shape in a spot where I'm not sure how many of them are going to be finishing with enthusiasm, and she at least knows how to get past some horses.

Picks Notes #2 UNRIVALED QUEEN (8-1) Right set-up, right price for stakes-placed Arizona-bred sprinter. #3 OUTSIDE THE LAW (4-5) Stands 7/2-3-2 in stakes and stands to top $200,000 in earnings. #4 BEYOND AWESOME (2-1) Got back on often-visited winning track in four-horse field. Race Summary UNRIVALED QUEEN is in top form and should sit an ideal stalking trip in her first start against Arizona breds in a year. She was carried out off a 6-wide trip last out and drifted to the 10-path in the race prior. She can’t afford any trouble in this field, but she’s worth a win and place wager at a big price.
Turf Paradise - Race #6
Picks Notes #3 IRISH HEATWAVE (8-1) Fits okay on best but was vet scratch for scheduled return at Santa Anita. #5 LETTHERAINSETTLEIT (9-5) Fell a nose short of five consecutive wins, turf the only question. #1 EL JOY (5-2) Piled up the checks on turf, dirt and all-weather surfaces at this distance. Race Summary IRISH HEATWAVE, his $393,430 turf bankroll intact at age 8, gets class relief after a 3-length setback against multiple stakes winner Flavius (6-28, $831k). He starts with similar time off between starts and needs an alert break to win for the first time in a year. Play a 3/1,5/ALL trifecta.
Picks Notes #6 DIVERSIFUL (10-1) Will be running late in first try at this distance, good value play. #1 ATTA BOY LLOYD (5-1) New arrival in Evans barn led after a half-mile in 5 of last 7 starts. #7 GOFASTANDWIN (6-1) Well-bet in useful debut at Golden Gate, returns as gelding with blinkers off. Race Summary DIVERSIFUL ran two of his better races from off the pace in at 6-1/2F, a scenario that could play out again on the cutback to 5-1/2F with plenty of speed up ahead. He adds value to all gimmick wager tickets in his third start as a 4-year-old. Play a 1-5-6-7 exacta box.
