My free pick of the day is the game between (929) OAK Athletics and (930) KC Royals. Take "Under". If you're a fan of offense....don't watch this game. These are the worst two offenses in the American League. Oakland has given up on the season a long time ago, going with kids everywhere. This anemic offense is last in runs scored and has scored 6 runs or more in only one of the last 16 games. The A's are 39-27 under the total on the road and this is their 11th road game over the last 15 games. They also run into a hot pitcher. KC righty Zack Greinke has a solid 3.72 ERA for the season and just 0.51 his last three starts. Incredibly, he's winless in those three starts, as this offense is terrible. The team is 5-2 under the total his last 7 starts and 39-29 under the total at home. Outside of a 13-3 win over the Tigers, this offense has been dormant the last three weeks, on a 7-2 under the total run. Looks like another low scoring baseball contest, play the A's/Royals under the total.

N.Y. Yankees +120 at TAMPA BAY

The Yankees are desparate. They are in must-win mode and they get the opportunity to face the Rays and make up some serious ground right now. So many veterans on the field tonight for New York that we have to give them a shot to win this one behind Mike Mussina (16-7, 3.41 ERA) who has looked as good as any pitcher this season.

New York trails the Rays by 12 games and trails Boston in the wildcard race by 6 1/2 games. The Yankees have won four straight on the road and the offense has scored 35 runs in those four games. They are also 18-6 in Mussina's last 24 starts overall, including each of his last six and eight of his last nine on the road.

Thursday, Mussina gave up two runs on five hits but got a no-decision in a 3-2 win over Boston. He is 18-7 with a 3.38 ERA in 31 career starts against the Rays and 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA against Tampa this season.

New York has won seven of the last 10 meetings with the Rays and they are 8-2 in Mussina's last 10 starts against them. It's a team with a lot of veterans that is in must-win mode. Play the Yankees tonight.

    NATIONAL LEAGUE

    N.Y. Mets (77-61) at Milwaukee (80-57)

Highly touted Mets prospect Jonathon Niese is set to make his major-league debut at Miller Park against the Brewers, who will counter with Manny Parra (10-6, 4.00 ERA) in the middle game of this series between playoff contenders.

New York rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 on Monday, improving to 35-17 in its last 52 games and move two games clear of Philadelphia in the N.L. East race. Additionally, the Mets are on runs of 12-5 against southpaw starters, 4-1 on the road and 4-1 on Tuesdays.

Despite Monday’s defeat, the Brewers are still on positive streaks of 20-8 overall, 9-2 at home, 4-0 after a loss, 23-8 against lefty starters overall, 42-16 against lefties at home and 35-16 on Tuesdays.

The Mets hold a slim 3-2 edge in the season series with the Brewers, but they’ve won 10 of their last 14 games at Miller Park.

Parra was sensational on Wednesday at St. Louis, giving up a run on six hits in six innings, walking none and striking out seven. However, his bullpen imploded in the eighth inning, as Milwaukee lost 5-3. The Brewers are just 3-7 in Parra’s last 10 starts, but 2-0 in the last two at home, where the southpaw is 6-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 14 efforts this year.

Parra’s lone career start against the Mets came on April 11 in New York, and he lasted just four innings, giving up three runs in a 4-2 defeat.

Niese, who started the season in Double-A, went 5-1 with a 3.65 ERA in six games at Triple-A New Orleans. While there, the 21-year-old former seventh-round pick walked 12 and struck out 31 in 37 innings.

For the Brewers, the under is on streaks of 4-1-1 at home, 10-4-2 on Tuesdays, 42-17-4 against the N.L. East and 12-5-1 at home against southpaw starters. Also, the under is 5-2-1 in New York’s last eight away from home. However, the over is 40-18-5 in the last 63 series meetings between these two, including 10-2-1 in Milwaukee, though yesterday’s game stayed under the posted price.

    AMERICAN LEAGUE

    N.Y. Yankees (73-64) at Tampa Bay (84-51)

The desperate Yankees head to Tampa Bay in must-win mode as they send Mike Mussina (16-7, 3.41) to the mound against the Rays’ Matt Garza in the opener of a three-game set at Tropicana Field.

Despite a 13-9 victory at Detroit in a make-up game Monday, New York still trails the first-place Rays by 12 games in the A.L. East and wild-card-leading Boston by 6½ games. Although the Yankees have lost four of their last seven overall and eight of their last 11 on artificial turf, they’ve won four straight on the road, scoring 35 runs in the four contests. They’re also 18-6 in Mussina’s last 24 starts overall (6-0 in the last six) and 8-1 in his last nine outings on the highway (3-0 last three).

Tampa Bay, which was idle on Monday, enters this series on a five-game winning streak. The Rays are on impressive streaks of 48-12 at home, 55-25 against right-handed starters, 36-17 against winning teams, 5-0 versus A.L. East rivals and 4-0 when Garza faces divisional foes.

During the Yankees’ 6-0 run with Mussina on the hill, the veteran right-hander has pitched six or seven innings in each outing. On Thursday against the Red Sox at home, Mussina yielded just two runs on five hits, but got a no-decision in his team’s walk-off, 3-2 victory in 10 innings. Mussina is 6-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 10 road starts this year and 18-7 with a 3.38 ERA in 31 career starts against the Rays, including 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in two outings versus Tampa this season.

Garza was tremendous in Wednesday’s 1-0 home win over the Blue Jays, scattering six hits and three walks in 7 2/3 scoreless innings. That marked the fourth time in his last eight starts that Garza has pitched at least 7 2/3 scoreless innings, and he won all four. At home this year, the right-hander is 7-2 with a 2.47 ERA, including a 7-1 victory over the Yankees on May 12, when Garza gave up five hits in seven shutout frames.

New York has won seven of the last 10 meetings with the Rays, and the Yanks are 8-2 in Mussina’s past 10 starts against Tampa Bay (2-0 this year).

The under is 10-1 in the last 11 series clashes, including 5-0 in the last five meetings at the Trop. The under is also on streaks of 9-3 when Garza pitches at home, 8-2 when Garza pitches against the A.L. East and 14-6 when Mussina toils on an artificial surface.

    Today's Selections

    CHW vs. CLE
    Sport: Major League Baseball
Game: Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians
The Play: Chicago White Sox -105.0
    Play Description:
    Star Value: 1* (10 Units)
    Writeup:
A complete story of our final third of the MLB season in a nutshell last night. We steamrolled through the first two thirds and things have really slowed down as of late. As we veer into the final stretch and post season play, we'll begin to focus more on key match ups across the board. The MLB regular season has brought a very nice overall profit in thus far (+563.70 units to date), but bigger things are planned ahead with the post season just a hop, skip and jump away. A solid, undefeated day in collegiate football saved us from an all around disaster. Here is Tuesday's action.

Our first event takes place at Progressive Field where the Cleveland Indians are set to host AL Central foe the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland has been on quite the heater as of late. They finally have started to swing the sticks and their pitching behind Cliff Lee has been well above average. With the season winding down, it's rather unlikely that the Tribe can make any sort of post season push, but that doesn't stand for their opponent tonight. The White Sox come into this game a half a game up in the division over the Twins, and they are right where they want to be.

The White Sox will put lefty John Danks on the mound to start. Danks comes in a solid 10-7 overall with a WHIP of 1.24 and an ERA of 3.28. Danks has been a very, very solid nucleus in this rotation all season long. He pitches well, throws hard and has a very commanding arsenal of pitches. The Sox have dropped six of their last ten overall, and as we all know this is NOT the time of year to be slumping. After Danks handles business, he'll be handing things over to a very, very strong bullpen. That bullpen of Chicago has a combined, average ERA of just 3.65 on the season in over 330 total innings pitched. This Chicago team is ready. They are ready to make a statement and pull ahead. Some say Twins, we say Sox.

Cleveland will start the powerful right handing heaver Fausto Carmona. Simply put, Carmona HAS NOT been the same man he was a year ago. He was plagued with injuries this season and has really never returned to his true form at all. He's a mediocre 7-5 on the season with a 1.60 WHIP and a 4.50 ERA. Cleveland has had big time troubles with run support in the past this year. We've constantly harped about this squad being a major let down, and quite truthfully.they still are. Their on a little spurt right now, but Chicago is the better team. Carmona is very, very capable of getting shaken up early with a few big hits, and from there that Cleveland bullpen is not capable of taking a game over in the 5th or 6th inning.

Chicago is the play here. They'll remain atop of the division with a win in Cleveland on Tuesday, and laying the small price should not be a problem. A 1* / 10 unit wager on Danks and the Sox to take care of the Tribe on the shores of Lake Erie.

    TREND OF THE GAME:
-The White Sox are 9-2 in their last 11 meetings with the Indians

    Chicago 5, Cleveland 2

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    HOU vs. CHC
    Sport: Major League Baseball
Game: Houston Astros vs. Chicago Cubs
    The Play: Chicago Cubs -185.0
    Play Description:
    Star Value: 1* (10 Units)
    Writeup:
Next, we'll be on one of those games that makes the customers just shake their head. Everyone hates laying major chalk, and rightfully so. However, sometimes there is value in that chalk. Dissecting match ups and exploiting that value is the difficult part. Well, on Tuesday night we found one. The Cubs host the Astros yet again at Wrigley field and it is about time for a Chicago win after two straight, embarrassing losses.

The big man in the middle will be Carlos Zambrano for Chicago. He's hyped up by the media and talked about all across the baseball world, but he really seems to live up to it. Now we know that the Cubs have already sketched their name in the post season slate, but baseball doesn't end two days into September. They need to stay fresh, stay on top of the game and the clubhouse knows that. Back to Z, Carlos comes in a very impressive 13-5 overall. He has thrown nearly 170 total innings in 2008 accumulating a WHIP of just 1.30 and an ERA of 3.52. Zambrano is 1-0 in his last three starts for the Cubbies too. Chicago has been steaming hot lately at 8-3 in their last 11. The fans know that it's definitely time for a victory tonight, starting at 8:05PM EST.

Houston elects to put right hander Brandon Backe on the mound. Brandon comes in 9-12 overall with a WHIP of 1.52 and an ERA of 5.42. He's gotten pretty roughed up his last three times out. His ERA in those three games has soared to 7.55 in just 19 total innings. Like the Cubs, Houston has been playing some solid baseball too. They are 8-2 through their last ten games, but out of the picture playoff wise unless some big time drama takes place. Backe threw against this Cubs team on August 6 in Wrigley and got absolutely shelled. The Cubs won that game 11-4 and the closest Houston came in that game was in the first 0-0. A while back (April 6), Zambrano and the Cubs met Backe and the Astros at Wrigley once again. The Cubs took the decision in that game too, 3-2.

Chicago has too much class, too much pride and just flat out too much raw talent to keep losing games to inferior teams at home. This is precisely why Vegas has set the opening line where it is. Laying the chalk should be worry free, and we'll do it for a 1* / 10 unit wager. The Cubs will handle Houston in front of an eager home crowd in Wrigley tonight.

    TRENDS OF THE GAME:
-The Cubs are 7-2 in their last 9 games following a loss
-The Cubs are 25-9 in their last 34 games on grass
-The Cubs are 25-9 in their last 34 overall
-The Astros are 4-10 in their last 14 meetings in Chicago

    Chicago 6, Houston 4

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SEA vs. TEX
    Sport: Major League Baseball
Game: Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers
    The Play: Texas Rangers -145.0
    Play Description:
    Star Value: 1* (10 Units)
    Writeup:
Finally, we'll be chasing down the Rangers as they host the Mariners in Texas once again. It was a fluke of a game last night, back and forth. The Rangers had a middle game lead, and threw it away with some poor decision making late. As we sat here and said yesterday, Seattle is awful. We refuse to change our stance on that due to one game, one loss. The Mariners played harder, smarter and with more consistency last night, but bad teams don't do that back to back nights.

Texas will start right hander Brandon McCarthy. Brandon has yet to receive a decision for the Rangers, but comes in with a solid ERA of 1.80. The Mariners will start Ryan Feierabend who is 0-1 for Seattle with a WHIP of 1.73 and an ERA of 6.00. If you want a glossy write up on this game, just look at last night's. There is no reason Texas couldn't have won that game, besides completely rolling over. Why won't they do that again tonight you might ask? Well, even if they do play to that caliber tonight, they are still fully capable of beating Seattle. The Mariners hit like they haven't done all season on Labor Day. The bullpen still has that inflated ERA and all that jazz.

Texas. Another juicy game, but worth the price in our eyes. A 1* / 10 unit wager on the Rangers laying the smack down on Seattle at home.

    TRENDS OF THE GAME:
-The Rangers are 9-4 in their last 13 Tuesday games
-The Mariners are 16-35 in their last 51 meetings in Texas

    Texas 10, Seattle 4

    Re: 9-2-08

went 3-0 on my free premium plays released here yesterday as UCLA won the game outright and the LA Dodgers won 5-2 to cover the money line as well as the run line. Here is today's free premium baseball selection:

St. Louis/Arizona Under 9 -1.19 (4 Unit Play) - Two pitchers who are on top of their games meet tonight and both teams are desperate for some rest from their depleted bullpens. Adam Wainwright will make his third start for the Cardinals since being activated from the DL and he has went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in those two starts although they were both at home. The encouraging sign about those two starts was that he was able to pitch 6 innings but only threw 89 and 72 pitches and should be ready to go deeper into the game this evening. The Diamondbacks will respond with Yusmeiro Petit and he has also been solid in his past three starts going 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA and he has had success in his career against the Cardinals going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA. Tonight's HP umpire is Ron Kulpa and so far this year he is 16-8 for the Under so although we have to lay some juice here tonight I still like this one Under as a 4*.

From 8/12 to 9/1 I am 35-33 in the MLB for a slight profit of 9.945 units and although it is not great I am happy to be ahead of the game for this month. Besides the play that are listed above I have one other 4* play tonight as well as a 3* and for just $20 not only can you get those two plays but also the rest of this weeks MLB plays as well. For those interested visit Procappers Network and all of my packages are up and I am sure you will be happy with the results as well as the pricing. I also went 12-9 on my NCAA Football picks for last week for a profit of 7.95 units so don't delay and sign up today. I did struggle in the Preseason NFL as I went 13-15-1 but ended up losing 6.35 units so I am also an honest service that will not give you just the winning results but also the losing ones.

Best of luck to everyone today and have a great day.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays (MLB) - Sep 2, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -112 Tampa Bay Rays Pick Title: Vernon Croy's Tuesday Night MLB Free Play
1 Unit, Take Tampa Bay ML, The Rays starter Matt Garza (11-7, 3.53) has pitched solid at home this season with a 7-2 record and an ERA of just 2.72 over 13 starts and Garza has also pitched solid over his last 3 outings with an ERA of just 1.54 while lasting an average of 7.8 innings per start. Garza allowed just 5 hits and no earned runs over 7 innings in his only start this season against the Yankees and I look for him to have another solid start against them at home tonight. The Rays are hitting .288 as a team over their last 7 games while averaging 6.4 rpg and their opponents are hitting just .226 against them at home this season while averaging just 3.5 rpg. The Rays are 23-9 at home this season when the posted total is 8 to 8.5 and the Yankees are just 4-11 in their last 15 games against a team that has a winning record. Take the Rays as my free play for Tuesday night and make sure you get on my MLB Bookie Buster as I have it cashing hands down tonight.

New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers (MLB) - Sep 2, 2008 8:05 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -149 Milwaukee Brewers Pick Title: FREE PICK
The Mets are 77-61 while the Brewers are 80-57 but it's the Mets who lead their division (by one game over the Phils) while the Brewers find themselves 4 1/2 games back of the Cubs in theirs. However, the Brewers do lead the wild card race by 4 1/2 games. While Sabathia has gone 9-0 with a 1.43 ERA over his 11 starts with Milwaukee (team is 10-1), Sheets has been pretty mediocre. Sheets was 10-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 17 starts (team was 12-5) prior to the team getting Sabathia but since then, is just 2-5 with a 3.63 ERA over nine starts (team is 4-5). However, one can't ignore the fact that the Mets are a mediocre 36-36 on the road this year, while the Brewers are once again playing well at home (Milwaukee was 99-64 at home the last two seasons). Lets play the Brewers with the better pitcher on the hill Tuesday night. Play on the BREW CREW

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals (MLB) - Sep 2, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: 180 Washington Nationals Pick Title: Washington
3* graded play on Washington - This is a series that Phillies fans know theier team has to win, but based on their play yesterday and now a play produced on washington for the second game, the phils may find themsleves up against the wall with 20+ games to go in the season. Hamels has been victimized almost every start with poor run support and could have easily been an 18 game winner this season with a little help from the offense based on how dominating his starts have been. Supporting this graded play is a system that has produced a record of 101-101, BUT making 87.7 units in profits. Play against all favorites with a money line of -175 to -250 starting a pitcher who gave up <=2 earned runs in his last 2 outings and is now facing an opponent with a cold starting pitcher sporting an ERA >= 7.50 over his last 3 starts. This is absolutely fine system and is analogous to playing BJ and being paid 1.08 per winning hand. Not bad indeed and I am sure we would all take advantage of that opportunity. Take Washingon.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays (MLB) - Sep 2, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -123 Tampa Bay Rays Pick Title: Craig's Free play for TUESDAY
Enjoy it take TB here. The East-leading Rays will be sitting 12 games ahead of New York on Tuesday, when they bring a five-game winning streak into the opener of a three-game set against the Yankees at Tropicana Field. But while the big-budget Yankees have struggled with injuries, inconsistency and poor pitching this year, the small-market Rays have gone from a surprising storyline to the club with best record in baseball entering the season's final month. Tampa Bay (84-51) scored 34 runs during a three-game sweep of Baltimore over the weekend, while its 3.70 team ERA this season is the second-best in the majors. With a major-league best 21-7 record in August, the Rays took control of the AL East while virtually assuring they'll advance to their first postseason. Mike Mussina (16-7, 3.41 ERA) has been the lone constant lately in their rotation, as they have won his last six starts. The right-hander still has a chance at the first 20-win season of his 18-year career, but he has not had a decision in each of his last two outings. The Rays will have a pitcher nearly 15 years younger than Mussina on the mound in Matt Garza (11-7, 3.53). The right-hander threw 7 2-3 innings in a 1-0 win over Toronto on Wednesday, giving him four scoreless outings of at least that long in his last eight starts. Garza tossed seven scoreless innings against the Yankees in a 7-1 home win on May 12. He is 7-2 with a 2.47 ERA at Tropicana Field this season. With a 52-19 record, Tampa Bay is the best home team in baseball, winning its last nine series in St. Petersburg. The Rays have played 13 series overall since the All-Star break, winning 12 and splitting one. SCORE TB 5 - NYY 2
