Man it's great that a betting forum can help me keep my mind straight about stuff. Does one vice cancel the other out? I say that because betting and winning gives me a way better feeling.

^honestly, it is a terrible idea. But, I have to think it is a much less harmful vice in general.
Get addicted to training... that is equally addictive and has no downside. Jiu jitsu is the most addictive thing I have ever done. You start watching videos at 3 am trying to figure out a way to solve a position.

agreed... you know you have a problem when you start betting on sports you have never watched... jai alai and cricket and what not.Originally Posted by Luke

Im just young and stupid and started to have way to much fun. Im realizing there is a price to pay.
My brother is an addict... hestarted "having fun" about 15 years ago... he would ebb and flow... he finally lost it and is prison now on a 10 year sentence. He fully recognized the consequences, but would just justify things... I have seen it go full cycle. Then in my job, I deal with abusers (both D & A) all damn day... it is just a stupid stupid habit. The costs so far outweight the rewards that it just seems borderline insane to me to even start. But having seen so many abusers now, I genuinely question whether their personality traits make them abusers or the fact that they are abusers give them the personality traits. Because it is like talking to the same person over and over.
It is common and seems inncucuos enough, but that shit adds up... then one day you are laying on the 4th floor of a hospital trying to detox wondering what they hell you did with your life. Then you get sad that you wasted so much time, and decide to drown the sorrow... Then one day you wake up and 15 years have passed.
Get right, because in all seriousness, it is nothing to joke about.

10 years? Isnt that what murders get?
Just to make sure on this point can you get in serious trouble for gambling on-line? I thought no, but I'm not real sure.

You should go get that MMA lawyer to weigh in on this.Originally Posted by Luke
At the very least, there are state laws. Here in Utah it's illegal, a misdemeanor I think, but I'm not sure. I believe in some states it's a felony. But in any case, there's very little prosecution. I've only heard of 2 or 3 cases.

Man, I thought it was totally legal just hard to access.Originally Posted by SPX

Go here, go down to Legality, then go to United States and you can read about it:

Now I'm not sure what the state laws are for each state so...

So didn't wikipedia say sports gambling is illegal under the wire act but poker isn't?

I don't think you can simplify it that much. What if you're on a dial-up Internet connection, for instance?Originally Posted by Luke
