    RARE BASEBALL HIGH ROLLER--EARLY!

At 4:10 pm, our selection is on the Cincinnati Reds over the Cleveland Indians. Homer Bailey was a bit of a can't-miss kid when taken as an 18-year-old in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Reds but so far the now 25-year-old righthander has missed quite a bit in his career. The Reds thought that this might be the year that Bailey would finally fulfill his promise as he was 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA after his first four starts, but in his next start, Bailey lasted just four innings against the Phillies and he promptly went on the DL with a strained shoulder. He came back exactly one month later with a start last Sunday against the Orioles in Baltimore and took another loss although there were some encouraging signs in that start and Bailey is a good candidate to bounce back tonight in the latest chapter of the "battle for Ohio". If you're looking for the more consistent one in this pitching match-up today it's Bailey and that tells you how uneven righthander Fausto Carmona has been for this Indians team. After seemingly on the road back to respectability last season (13-14 with a 3.77 ERA), Carmona has been up to his old tricks this year and he has regressed significantly (4-10 with a 5.89 ERA in 17 starts) and he must driving his team crazy trying to understand what is so seriously wrong with the talented veteran. Carmona's also been horrid lately on the road as he's 1-4 with a 9.75 ERA since May 19. Indeed, he hasn't been much better at home since then as his home ERA is 8.58 during this stretch, and his 1-7 record since May 19 is the worst in the Major Leagues! The Reds are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings at home. Take Cincy. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. And don't miss my other big afternoon winner on Saturday.

AWESOME 85% (23-4) DAYTIME MLB WINNER!

At 4:10 pm, our selection is on the New York Yankees over the New York Mets. Bartolo Colon is back in the Yankee rotation just in time for pre-All-Star break stretch where the team will try to put some distance between itself and the Red Sox. The big righthander was on the shelf for a hamstring strain - not surprising since his listed weight is 265 but he probably goes closer to 290 on most days - and comes back for his first-ever start at Citi Field and first-ever Subway Series action. The Yanks certainly hope this isn't the last time they see action against the NL as they have their sights set on another World Series appearance in the Fall, and hopefully Colon will give them a much-needed veteran presence on the mound to help them get there. He's had a pretty good first season in the Bronx, going 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 13 appearances (10 of them starts) and he's also pitched pretty well in his career in inter-league games, going 15-12 with a 4.04 ERA in 35 starts vs. the NL. The Yankees have had good results against the Mets recently taking five of the last six heading into today. And they're a Major League-best 23-4 in Daytime games. Take the Yanks. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
