1-Unit Play. Take #951 Pittsburgh (+120) over St. Louis (7 p.m., Monday, April 17)
Well, the Pirates clearly still aren't scared of the Cubs and Cardinals. And I think that they will prove it here again with a win to open this series. St. Louis could have a letdown after their series in the Bronx, and the Cards just don't look very good coming out of the gates. Ivan Nova is a guy that I think is going to be really, really good in the National League and I expect him to win this battle of big starters.
1-Unit Play. Take #954 Atlanta (-160) over San Diego (7:30 p.m., Monday, April 17)
So far, so good for the Braves in their new stadium. They've won four straight and they have won all three games against the Padres pretty easily. I think that will continue today. I will have no problem betting against Jered Weaver in just about every start that he makes. And he is the reason that this number is so high for the home team. Weaver isn't an MLB-caliber pitcher anymore and is completely erratic and hittable. I think the Braves keep their momentum going.
1-Unit Play. Take #966 Houston (-150) over L.A. Angels (8 p.m., Monday, April 17)
I don't like or trust Chuckles Morton. But I do really like this Houston team. Besides a blip against Kansas City at home, the Astros have been pretty hot and have won their three other series. The Astros have won four straight and five of six, versus the Angels and their five-game losing streak. Morton is garbage. But Jesse Chavez has been no great shakes. I will back the home team here and look for Houston to do enough other things better on their way to a win here.
2-Unit Play. Take #969 Miami (+130) over Seattle (10 p.m., Monday, April 17)
I will take a stab on the underdog here. Seattle has been bad. And this is not a team that I am high on at all this year. There are just too many holes on this roster. And when their big bats in the middle of the order aren't killing it then there really just aren't a lot of other answers offensively for this group. Ariel Miranda has been OK. But he's sporting a 5.06 ERA and he has just nine strikeouts to five walks in 10 innings. I really like this Miami team. They just body slammed the Mets and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. This team has a lot of quality players and Tom Koehler is just efficient and effective on the mound.
Today's Totals
1-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 8.0 Texas at Oakland (10 p.m. Monday, April 17)
I also have leans on the Cubs -1.5 and on Arizona today.
Carpe diem. Good luck.

2-Unit Play. Take #951 Pittsburgh (+120) over St. Louis (7 p.m., Monday, April 17)
The Pirates are hot, winning three in a row over Chicago. The Cardinals lost three in a row in New York. Now they are matching up here in St. Louis and I think that the wrong team is favored. Ivan Nova is taking the ball for Pittsburgh. He has back-to-back quality starts to open the year. And Nova has eight of 10 quality starts dating back to last season. I expect him to be sharp again here versus the Cardinals, a team that has not seen him. St. Louis is just 1-5 in Lance Lynn's last six home starts and Lynn has not looked good to start the year, failing to go more than five innings in either start. I will go with the value on the underdog in this one.
2-Unit Play. Take #955 Milwaukee (+1.5, -125) over Chicago Cubs (8 p.m., Monday, April 17)
I think the Brewers have a great chance of winning this game. But I will take the extra run in case this one is close. The Cubs are just 2-4 at home so far this season and they were just swept by Pittsburgh. Chicago is off to a slow start to this season. Milwaukee has beaten the Cubs in six of the last nine meetings and they took Game 1 of their series two weeks ago. Chase Anderson has been outstanding in his two starts. He shutout the Blue Jays his last time out and shut down Colorado in his first start. Anderson has just a 1.58 ERA in his last seen starts and he was very good in a 5-4 loss to the Cubs in Wrigley last September.

4 Unit Play. Take #957 Over 7 -120 Arizona at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10p.m., Monday April 17)
Friday and Saturday the LA Dodgers scored 15 runs against the Diamondbacks but Easter Sunday the D-Backs held the Dodgers offense to 1 run but that changes tonight. Arizona starter Robbie Ray struggled on the road last year and tonight I see the Dodgers bats hitting Ray hard and I'm completely shocked this total was posted at 7. Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy is 2-0 this young season and his last home start McCarthy beat the Padres 10-2 and wouldn't shock me to see the same results tonight in Dodger Stadium. Tonight the Dodgers win and this game flies OVER! Arizona is 9-4 O/U when Robbie Ray starts against NL West teams and the Dodgers last 3 games 2 of them have gone OVER.
