Magic host the surprisingly successful N.Y. Knicks, who head into this game on no rest after defeating the Hornets at MSG last night.

The Knicks look GREAT, at home! They are 4-2 in the Garden but only 1-2 on the road..

The Knicks have to prove they can win on the road before they get my respect let alone my money.

Orlando is coming off of a couple of days rest, so they should be ready.

The Knicks on the other hand should be tired, especially Porzingas who has been a one man show.

    Bet the Magic.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are playing really good basketball right now. They're 7-3 on the year and arrive in Oakland riding a five-game win streak.

Thing is, those wins have come against a struggling Oklahoma City team, the Heat, the Pelicans, Dallas and Charlotte.

None of those five are the Golden State Warriors.

I love the defending NBA champs as my free winner tonight, as they're about to give the T'Wolves a quick wake-up call.

The Warriors have knocked off Minnesota in 17 of the past 20 meetings, including twice by way of demolition in Oakland last season.

I'm banking on the chemistry I'm seeing from Golden State's fearsome foursome: Stephen Curry (25.7), Kevin Durant (24.8) and Klay Thompson (20.3) and Draymond Green (10.5).

Lay the chalk tonight, as Golden State wins by a dozen.

My free winner is icy, with the Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs going Over the posted number.

The Leafs are in the midst of a three-game home stand, and have had a night to rest since being challenged by the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday. Toronto, which has gone over in three straight games, is the No. 1 team in goals-for in the league, with 60 over its first 16 games played.

I know Minnesota is far behind with 40 goals scored in its first 13 games, and averages just 3.08 per game, but the Wild have poked in six twice in their last six games. They've also gone over in two of their last three.

The Wild are also 5-0-1 Over on the road this season, while the Leafs are 6-1-1 Over at home.

Play this one Over tonight, as they should get to 7 or 8 no problem.

    4* OVER Wild/Maple Leafs

    Now about this complimentary winner

Going to side with the New York Rangers as my free play for Wednesday, as I think they get the best of the visiting Boston Bruins in this one.

For as bad as things were to start the season, for the Rangers, things are looking up suddenly. They're in second-to-last place in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference, but they've won four ina row, and are 6-2-2 in their last 10.

Boston, which is 1-2-1 on the road this season, just beat Minnesota 5-3 at home on Monday, but it has lost three of its last five due to a stagnant offense that averaged two goals per game before the win over the Wild.

Now, with two tough games on the docket: tonight and Friday at Toronto, I don't know if the Bruins are going to survive to win just one.

Look for the Rangers to thrive on Boston's mistakes, as they're 6-for-13 with the power play over the past four games, and catch a Bruins team that has lost eight straight after a win, dating back to last season.

New York, which has won 19 of 26 in this series at home, has won five in a row against Boston.

    4* RANGERS

    Preview: Pacers at Pistons

    Gracenote
    Nov 8, 2017

The Detroit Pistons are off to their best start this decade and look to keep it going when they host the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. Detroit's 7-3 start marks its best season-opening 10-game stretch since posting the same record in 2008-09.

Indiana routinely has handled the Pistons lately, winning the last six meetings - including all four last season. The Pacers are limping into Detroit with a three-game losing streak after suffering a 117-112 home loss against New Orleans on Tuesday to drop one game below .500. "We have to do a better job when teams make adjustments," Indiana shooting guard Victor Oladipo told reporters after the setback. "We kind of withered away in the second half. And as a leader, I have to make sure we're ready to play in both halves, so this one's on me." Forward Tobias Harris has helped fuel Detroit's strong start with a team-best 19.1 points and is shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range, well above last year's mark of 34.7.

    TV:
7 p.m. ET, FSN Indiana, FSN Detroit

ABOUT THE PACERS (5-6): Indiana had no answers on how to slow New Orleans big men Anthony Davis (37 points) and DeMarcus Cousins (32), but its offensive fade was just as troublesome. The Pacers blistered the Pelicans for 75 first-half points while building a 14-point lead and then scored just 37 in the second half during a collapse that frustrated coach Nate McMillan. "We needed to be the aggressors in the second half and we came out flat," McMillan told reporters. "Our guards have to establish the tempo, and that's fair to say both ways. When teams are making a run, I only have so many timeouts. This is where we are. We have to grow, and this can't continue."

ABOUT THE PISTONS (7-3): Standout center Andre Drummond has recorded seven double-doubles and collected at least 12 rebounds in each game while averaging 14 points and 14.7 boards. The 24-year-old also has improved his free-throw shooting (75 percent compared to 38.6 last season) and passing (2.7 assists to 1.1), and the transformation pleases tough-to-impress coach Stan Van Gundy. "I just want his mentality to stay even keel," Van Gundy told reporters while discussing the fact Drummond recorded 16 points, 19 rebounds, four assists and three steals in Saturday's 108-99 victory over Sacramento. "I saw a big step forward in terms of his maturity the other night, and if he stays with that and he's playing a lot harder on a more consistent basis, I thought that was really, really good."

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Indiana's four victories over the Pistons last season were by an average of 14.5 points.

    2. Pacers PF Domantas Sabonis (calf) sat out Tuesday and is unlikely to play against the Pistons.

    3. Detroit SF Stanley Johnson (hip) is questionable to play Wednesday, while PF Jon Leuer (ankle) could miss his third straight game.

    PREDICTION: Pistons 109, Pacers 99

    Preview: Knicks at Magic

    Gracenote
    Nov 8, 2017

Kristaps Porzingis is flourishing as New York's leading scoring option and looks to help the Knicks to their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. The 22-year-old Porzingis has scored 300 points so far and passed New York legend Bernard King (298) for the top season-opening 10-game stretch in franchise history.

Porzingis has been so superb that his 28-point effort in Tuesday's 118-113 victory over Charlotte was his third-lowest output of the season. He became the focal point of the attack after Carmelo Anthony was traded to Oklahoma City but said he is much more concerned with halting the franchise's four-season playoff drought than scoring tons of points and receiving accolades. "The sweetest thing for us, the best thing for us, would be to make the playoffs. This means nothing," Porzingis told reporters afterward. "If we can keep winning and I'll keep doing what I have to do, then the real reward will come." Orlando got off to a strong 6-2 start but averaged just 85.5 points while falling to Chicago and Boston in the first two contests of its three-game homestand.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FSN Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE KNICKS (6-4): Backup small forward Doug McDermott, who came over in the deal for Anthony, produced his best performance of the season in the win over Charlotte by scoring 20 points. McDermott made 7-of-8 shots - including each of his 3-point attempts - while reaching double digits for the fourth time this season. "Doug's a beast," forward Lance Thomas told reporters after watching the former college player of the year at Creighton take over with 10 fourth-quarter points. "He was doing this in practice. We know what he's capable of doing, and he's doing it."

    ABOUT THE MAGIC (6-4):
Orlando may elect to hold out point guard Elfrid Payton (hamstring) for the ninth straight game while backup D.J. Augustin (hamstring) definitely will sit out his third consecutive contest. The absences have left journeyman Shelvin Mack as the lone point guard on the roster, and the Magic opted to start Jonathon Simmons during Sunday's 104-88 loss to the Celtics. "Everyone can say we're out of rhythm because we don't have our two point guards in there, but (Simmons) is doing a good job," coach Frank Vogel told reporters. "We were out of rhythm because Boston is a great defensive team. He does a great job there, Shelvin Mack does a great job there and I don't think that's an excuse for our guys."

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. The Knicks have won four of the last five meetings.

    2. Orlando SF Evan Fournier recorded just six points on 2-of-14 shooting against Boston after scoring 20 or more in eight of his first nine games.

    3. New York C Enes Kanter, also acquired from Oklahoma City, has made 70 percent of his shots on four occasions after going 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) against the Hornets.

    PREDICTION: Magic 101, Knicks 98

    Preview: Lakers at Celtics

    Gracenote
    Nov 7, 2017

The Boston Celtics are the hottest team in the NBA and will try to push their winning streak to double digits when they host the rival Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. The Celtics dropped their first two games after watching swingman Gordon Hayward go down with a gruesome injury but put the pieces back together and ripped off wins in the next nine contests.

"The only thing that really matters is us handling our preparation, understanding the trust that we continue to build from one another, and the expectations we have within this locker room are reality based," Boston point guard Kyrie Irving told reporters after Monday's 110-107 win at Atlanta. "We know what we want to accomplish but it starts with not taking any moment for granted and understanding we gotta continue to get better." Monday's win snapped a string of eight straight games holding opponents under 100 points for the Celtics, who lead the NBA in scoring defense (94.5). The Lakers are not quite as sharp on the defensive end, surrendering an average of 107.3 points, but did enough on the other end of the floor to win three of their last four games. Rookie point guard Lonzo Ball is the one initiating that offense but is not having much success scoring and is shooting 29.9 percent from the floor on the season, including 6-of-30 over the last three games.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE LAKERS (5-5): Ball is averaging 6.9 assists and 6.4 rebounds in 33 minutes and handed out nine assists in Sunday's 107-102 win over Memphis, but he went 1-of-8 from 3-point range in that game. “He’s been a little down on himself a little bit with the season he’s having,” fellow rookie Kyle Kuzma told the LA Daily News of Ball. "Of course he wants to play a lot better. I just try to tell him to be more aggressive on the floor. ... Once he’s confident in his game he’s pretty hard to guard." Kuzma is taking over the rookie scoring load for the Lakers and is up to an average of 15.4 points on the season after putting up a combined 72 points on 29-of-45 shooting in the last four games.

    ABOUT THE CELTICS (9-2):
Boston could have drafted Ball with the No. 1 overall pick but instead traded down to the No. 3 spot and picked up forward Jayson Tatum, who is averaging 14.3 points on 50 percent shooting, including 52.9 percent from 3-point range. Tatum recorded 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added eight rebounds in Monday's win while frontcourt mate Al Horford finished an assist shy of a triple-double. Horford had to settle for his fourth double-double of the campaign and is averaging 14.6 points and 9.2 rebounds while shooting 47.4 percent from beyond the arc.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Celtics PF Marcus Morris (knee soreness) sat out Monday but is expected to return on Wednesday.

    2. Los Angeles C Brook Lopez is averaging 27.3 points over the last three games.

    3. Boston took both meetings last season and three straight in the series.

    Preview: Heat at Suns

    Gracenote
    Nov 7, 2017

The Phoenix Suns went through a stretch of four wins in five games after making a coaching change but have since dropped three in a row. The Suns reportedly engineered another major shakeup on Tuesday and will find out if that's the key to breaking out of the current rut at the expense of the struggling Miami Heat, who visit on Wednesday.

Phoenix, which returned home from a five-game road trip on Monday and could not find the energy to do battle with the Brooklyn Nets in a 98-92 loss that marked the lowest-scoring game of the brief Jay Triano era as coach, finally dealt disgruntled point guard Eric Bledsoe away on Tuesday morning. Bledsoe, who has not played since Oct. 21 after being sent away by the team, is reportedly being sent to the Milwaukee Bucks for a package that includes veteran center Greg Monroe and a first-round pick. The Suns once traded away Goran Dragic to open up more playing time for Bledsoe, and Dragic returns to the desert on Wednesday leading a Heat squad that scored a season low in a 97-80 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday to fall to 1-2 on the six-game road trip. Dragic scored 19 points in the setback and is averaging 19.3 points and 4.8 assists.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Miami), FS Arizona (Phoenix)

ABOUT THE HEAT (4-6): Miami coach Erik Spoelstra benched Hassan Whiteside in the second half of Monday's loss after the center lost his focus on a play. "I guess he thought it was better if I didn't come back in," Whiteside told reporters. "Coach playing me 16 minutes, I guess that's what he wanted me to play. ... Last game, I played 31 minutes. I thought I played great (Sunday at the Clippers). Today, I played 16 minutes. So, I really don't know what I'm going to play (Wednesday) in Phoenix." Whiteside was just 1-of-9 from the floor when he was benched and finished with three points and six rebounds, well off his season averages of 15.2 points and 12.4 boards.

    ABOUT THE SUNS (4-7):
Phoenix shooting guard Devin Booker, 21, became the fourth-youngest player in NBA history (LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony) to reach 3,000 points when he scored 18 against the Nets on Monday. "My dream my whole life was to play in the NBA," Booker told reporters. "Once I got here I realized I wanted to leave a mark, so every time I got out there I try to think back to those days when I was a little kid and wanted to be successful in this league. I'm trying to do it and get wins along with it." Booker is averaging 21.6 points on the season and is 29-of-29 from the free-throw line in the last five games.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Suns SG Troy Daniels went 1-of-4 from 3-point range on Monday after going 9-of-13 in the previous three games.

    2. Heat SG Dion Waiters left the team Monday to attend the birth of his daughter and could sit out Wednesday as well.

    3. Miami took 13 of the last 14 in the series, with the lone loss coming at Phoenix last season.

    PREDICTION: Heat 106, Suns 103

    Preview: Timberwolves at Warriors

The Golden State Warriors wow fans with their offensive exploits, but they also do strong work on the other end of the floor. The Warriors, who led the NBA in defensive field-goal percentage en route to the championship last season, will try to follow up their best defensive performance of the 2017-18 campaign with another strong effort when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Golden State did not get off to the best start on the defensive end this season but is coming on of late and put everything together while holding the Miami heat to 36.1 percent shooting in a 97-80 victory on Monday. "I thought it was our best defensive effort of the year," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters. "It was tremendous. We forced 23 turnovers, we were attentive on our switching. ... I thought we made really good decisions out there." The Timberwolves should pose a challenge to that defense after averaging 114.4 points during a five-game winning streak. Minnesota boasts five scorers averaging double figures, led by Karl-Anthony Towns' 21.8 points, and is enjoying the franchise's first five-game winning streak since 2009.

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (7-3): Minnesota brought in veterans Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague over the summer to supplement a solid young corps, and they believe the team is only scratching the surface. "This is still a work in progress," Teague told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "We're still trying to figure out each other. It can be a lot better. We all know that. We're starting to get into a groove here. But we have miles to go to be the team we want to be." Teague recorded 18 points and 12 assists in a 112-94 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday to continue his own groove with a fourth double-double in five games.

    ABOUT THE WARRIORS (8-3):
Golden State leads the NBA in scoring average (118.5 points) and assists (30.5) but suffered through a rare off shooting night while connecting at 36.8 percent in Monday's win. That slump did not extend to forward Draymond Green, who scored 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting and is 23-of-34 from the floor during a four-game winning streak. The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year averaged 7.1 points on 36.4 percent shooting in the first seven games but scored at least 15 points in each of the last four contests.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Warriors SF Kevin Durant recorded three blocks on Monday -- his eighth game this season with multiple blocked shots.

    2. Timberwolves C Gorgui Dieng recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes on Sunday.

    3. Golden State took three of the four meetings last season, with the lone loss coming at Minnesota on March 10.

    PREDICTION: Warriors 126, Timberwolves 111
