The Biogio's Rose Stakes
8.0 FURLONGS DIRT FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE
#1 FROST WISE
#3 HOLIDAY DISGUISE
#2 NO HAYNE NO GAYNE
#5 DECORATOR JENN
Here in just the 3rd running of "The Rose," who was an accomplished New York bred and multiple graded stakes winner, #1 FROST WISE,takes a slight class drop (-1), qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," and has hit the board in four of her last five outings, winning three times in this recent streak of racing consistency, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in her last two outings. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche was in her irons for that last win, 9 days ago here at "The Big A," producing a +140% return on investment in the process, and is back this afternoon here in Ozone Park for his 2nd ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips!" #3 HOLIDAY DISGUISE has won three straight, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his last two starts, however, I did not consider this entry for my "top slot," since she has not raced in some 254 days.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks
# 5 NOBLE QUEST 10/1
# 4 AWESOME TRAUM 3/2
# 2 BECKY'S KITTEN 2/1
I think NOBLE QUEST is a quite good choice and is a formidable value-based bet given the 10/1 line. Has to be carefully examined versus this group of animals displaying quite good figs lately and an average speed figure of 85 under similar conditions. Will more than likely be one of the early speedsters of the group going into the midpoint of the race. Has to be considered - I like the numbers from the last outing. AWESOME TRAUM - Is tough not to examine based on Equibase Speed Figs which have been quite good - 78 avg - of late. Handler has solid win rate (25 percent) at this distance and surface. BECKY'S KITTEN - His 79 average has this gelding with among the strongest speed figures in this competition. The average Equibase class figure of 79 makes this entrant tough to beat.

#8 NEVER CROSS A DIVA (ML=6/1)
#6 HOPE'S CORK (ML=3/1)
NEVER CROSS A DIVA - Batista was aboard this mare last out and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. The rest of the group may trail this thoroughbred all the way around the track. HOPE'S CORK - This filly is sent through the entry box right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. This should be an easier task than what she was asked last time out against 'open' company. Shanley gets a break on this thoroughbred carrying 7 pounds less than last out. Its possible this could make the difference right here.
Vulnerable Contenders: #7 SMARTY PLEASE (ML=8/5), #1 THESLEEPYBEAUTY (ML=5/1), #2 LADY BIDDER (ML=8/1),
SMARTY PLEASE - The morning-line favorite is shaky here with the lack of workouts. THESLEEPYBEAUTY - You figure that this equine is going to win today just because she's always close. Just doesn't finish first regularly. Last effort was too strong. Not too far of a reach to expect a 'performance bounce' today. This mare recorded a speed figure in her last affair which likely isn't good enough in today's event. LADY BIDDER - Would have to advance off that sixth place finish last time out of the box to make an impact here. The speed fig last out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's contest. Mark this horse as a likely underpriced contender.
Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - HOPE'S CORK - This horse is meeting a much easier group than in the last contest on February 1st. Worth a prime wager today.

#3 MEDLIN (ML=3/1)
MEDLIN - Margolis brings her right back. I recommend you stick with this hot filly. I cannot ignore the fact that this filly is working extremely well.
Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TIMUQUANA PLACE (ML=2/1), #8 MALIBU SONG (ML=9/2), #9 N. D. FREE (ML=6/1),
TIMUQUANA PLACE - This filly has already tasted defeat as the public's choice the last two times. Hard to give her another chance. MALIBU SONG - Doesn't look to be in a cozy spot this time. N. D. FREE - In any race of 6 furlongs, I like to wager on a contender that has been looking good in short distance events of late.

#3 MEDLIN to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

The Walker Group Picks
# 8 SECRET TOUCH 8/5
# 7 TUNE TO WIN 6/1
# 6 MONSAJEM PERVADE 8/1
SECRET TOUCH has a competitive shot to take this race. He has decent class ratings, averaging 96, and has to be considered for this event. Formidable average Speed Figures in dirt route races make this equine a contender. Earnings per start in dirt route races is solid for this equine. TUNE TO WIN - Hernandez has been hot the last month, winning at a nifty 24 percent clip. Looks very strong against this group and will probably be one of the front-runners. MONSAJEM PERVADE - Is difficult not to consider based on Equibase Speed Figs which have been respectable - 87 avg - of late. Strong jockey with trainer figures make this horse a sharp choice.

NBA (503) NEW YORK KNICKS VS (504) TORONTO RAPTORS
Take: UNDER
Reason: Your free play for Thursday, February 8, 2018 is in the NBA scheduled contest between the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors. Not sure how the Knicks will replace the scoring of their best player in Kristaps Porzingis, who will miss the rest of the season with a ACL tear. This kind of injury can take year or more to come back from. This likely means another year without making the playoffs for the Knicks as any chance they had went down with that injury. That also means they will have lots of problems scoring here tonight. I'm taking the UNDER as the Knicks are likely in shock.
