MLB | Brewers vs Reds
Play on: Reds -155 at Mirage
My free play is on the Cin Reds at 6:40 ET.
The Cincinnati Reds are fighting to reach the postseason for the first time in seven years but wasted a solid effort by Sonny Gray last night (5 IP and 1 ER allowed coming off IL). The Reds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st on a two-run HR but NEVER scored again, finishing with just four hits for the game. The "rubber" game of this series goes tonight with the Red at 28-28 and the Brewers at 27-27). The 27-25 Cards currently own second-place in the NL Central (which assures a playoff spot) but both Cincy and Milwaukee have a chance to grab a postseason spot, whether it's a wild-card position or a second place in the division.
Tonight's pitching matchup features Milwaukee's Adrian Houser (1-5, 5.33 ERA), while Cincinnati will send Trevor Bauer (4-4, 1.80 ERA) to the mound on three days' rest. Houser's made 10 stars in 2020 and despite having just ONE win, the Brewers are 5-5 in those 10 starts. That said, the fact that the Brewers are 4-1 in his five no-decisions has little to do with his good pitching, as he owns a 1.52 WHIP and .286 BAA to go along with his plus-5.00 ERA.
In contrast, Bauer's among the majors' ERA leaders at 1.80 plus has posted a 1.33 ERA with a .184 opponents' BAA. So why is he just 4-4 and the team 5-5 in his starts? The Reds are willing to pull out all the stops in bringing him back on three days' rest and if NOT for that, I'd make a bigger play on the Reds in this one. As is, it's still worth a small play on Bauer and Cincy.

** Wednesday Featured Free Play below **
At 7:30 eastern the MLS Comp play for Wednesday is on SPKC. Sporting Kansas City had a disappointing loss at this weekend to slip to second in the West behind Seattle. Meanwhile a big win for Orlando saw them extend their unbeaten run to six 4 of those were wins. SPKC Should bounce back here and deal a loss to Orlando. In the series the host team has fared well and KC has won the last 2 here at home vs Orlando. The Simulation model shows Sporting wins this one and with KC off a rare home loss last out we will back them to get the win tonight. For the MLS comp play. We will back Sporting KC. Dave’s Wednesday Free Play:
1* on St. Louis Cardinals -126
The Key: I like the price we are getting on the St. Louis Cardinals today as they try and make the playoffs. The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and in good position to make the postseason. The Royals are just 1-4 in their last 5 games with those 4 losses coming by a combined score of 24-8. Carlos Martinez hasn’t been great but will show up tonight with what’s at stake. And it’s not like Danny Duffy has lit the worse on fire, either. Duffy is 3-4 with a 5.01 ERA in 10 starts this year, 1-1 with a 6.60 ERA in 3 home starts and 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA in his last 3 outings. Duffy gave up 6 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his last start against the Cardinals. Martinez is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 2 lifetime starts against the Royals. Take St. Louis.

NHL | Lightning vs Stars
Play on: Lightning -150 at pinnacle
I've backed the Lightning a lot in these playoffs and I won with them in Game 2, after passing Game 1. I like their chances of also taking Game 3 and seizing control of the series. The Lightning got off to a fast start. Their power play was clicking and their goalie was great. That's basically a formula for success and the Lightning should carry the positive momentum into this one. Consider Tampa

Cardinals vs. Royals Free Pick September 23, 2020
The St. Louis Cardinals won't lack motivation as they try to fight off Cincinnati and Milwaukee for second place in the division. They lost the opener of this three-game set but came back with a 5-0 win on Tuesday. I think they'll come through again in the series finale on Wednesday.
Cards righty Carlos Martinez (0-2, 8.40 ERA) has ugly numbers in 2020, but note that he is 1-0 with a 1.02 ERA against Kansas City in his career.
The Royals, who are eliminated from the postseason race, hand the ball to left-hander Danny Duffy (3-4, 5.01 ERA) who was torched for six runs in 3 2/3 innings of a 9-5 loss at Milwaukee last time out. That was the second time in his last three starts that he gave up six runs. Duffy has posted a 6.60 ERA in three home starts on the season.
Cardinals are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.
Free pick on St. Louis Cardinals.
