Unless you're in the habit of laying monster juice, which I'm not, the only way to fade the Diamondbacks on the road is to play the run line. That's what I'm doing here with the A's.
Arizona has lost a franchise-record 17 straight games on the road! The Diamondbacks have lost 29 of their past 35 overall games. Oakland is 4-1 in its last five games and was idle on Monday. The A's are 8-0 this season following a day off. The pitching matchup also lends itself to backing the A's. It's Arizona rookie Jon Duplantier versus Chris Bassitt. Duplantier has been talked about the past couple of seasons as a promising pitcher with a high ceiling. That hasn't materialized. Duplantier wasn't good at Triple-A Reno this year with a 7.71 ERA and his big league ERA is 9.35 in two starts. Duplantier last faced the Brewers this past Thursday and surrendered five runs in four innings. Bassitt has been very solid. Oakland is 9-1 in his 10 starts this year. Only once during his past eight starts has Bassitt walked more than one batter and that was just two.

Give the A's the considerable edge in terms of starting pitching and bullpen in this one as the D'Backs send Jon Duplantier to the hill against Chris Bassitt. Duplantier has been hit hard in his first two starts this season, allowing nine earned runs in just 8 2/3 innings of work. He's yet to last five innings in a start which should leave plenty of work for a D'Backs bullpen that has posted a 4.68 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the road this season, converting only three saves while blowing seven. Chris Bassitt continues to impress for the A's after a quiet A.L. Cy Young-contending year in 2020. He has posted a 2.97 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in five home starts. Meanwhile, the A's are 6-3 when he starts at night this season as he has recorded a 3.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Behind Bassitt is an A's bullpen that has recorded a 2.62 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over their last seven games and has converted eight saves compared to just one blown here at home this season. Take Oakland (8*).

Davies vs Lamet: a pair of starters who, for different reasons, are on tight leashes. Zach Davies hasn’t thrived this year. He is 2-3 with an era just under five. It gets worse. K’s/BB’s 33 to 28, 6.75 era on the road, right handed batters batting .331. It is very doubtful he’ll go more than twice through the lineup because past the second time opposing batters are an average of .514.
Lamet is a different story. Since spending time on the injured list in April he hasn’t pitched more than 4 innings in a game.. It has been a season of quality over quantity for Lamet; 18 innings pitched with an era of 2.50, lots of strikeouts, and low base on balls.
Both bullpens will see action early. Both teams sport excellent bullpens. The Padres’ pen is a little more rested, as Cubs starters haven’t gone long into their games lately.
The Cubs swept the Padres in their home series, but have struggled on the road. The Padres at 4-6 in the last ten games have sunk to second place in the NL West, and probably feel it is time to right the ship.

Look for the Padres to get to Davies early and often. Take the over.

Things have been going along about as well as they can for the Atlanta Hawks, as Atlanta lost all 3 of their regular season meetings against their opening round opponent, the New York Knicks, but that fact didn't faze Nate McMillan's team as the Hawks manhandled the Knicks in 5 quick games.

Atlanta dropped 2 of their 3 regular season series meetings against the #1 seeded Philadelphia 76ers, but that didn't faze them either as they got out of the gate quickly on Sunday in the series opener thanks to Trae Young who had 12 points and 5 assists in the first quarter alone and Atlanta led by a whopping 20 points at the break and held on for a 128-124 outright win as the +4 points road dog!

Can Atlanta do it again tonight? While the points look mighty, mighty tempting, I fully expect Philadelphia to be able to even this series with the home win and cover tonight.

For a coach who has won a NBA title in his career, Doc Rivers got taken to the cleaners on Sunday. Rivers used Danny Green as Trae Young's primary defender in the first half and by the time he switched over to Ben Simmons to open the second half it was pretty much too big of a mountain for his team to climb. Expect Rivers to open tonight with either Simmons or Matisse Thybulle on Young in this game.

Also expect that Doc does not go to an all-bench lineup the way he did in Game One as that rotation was outscored by 10 points while on the floor - again making the mountain a bit too tall to climb for the Sixers although they made one heck of late-game charge before falling by 4 points.

Joel Embiid has stated that he is going to play through the pain of a partially torn meniscus in his knee and he sure looked unstoppable while he was in the game as Embiid logged 38 minutes and scored 39 points. Big Jo also shot 57% from the floor, snared 9 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and blocked 3 shots.

Philly is still 32-8 on their home floor, while Atlanta stands at 19-21 on the road after Sunday's victory.

Atlanta is due for a "clunker" of a game here in the playoffs and tonight is that night.

Sixers by close to double-digits tonight.
