    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Churchill Downs - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#7 Coal Boss He has some tactical pace in a race without much speed, and that should leave him in a good spot right near the top along with the serious Cox dropper.
#4 Blood Brother He drops hard after stopping again last time out, and it wouldn't be any shock to see him handle these on the big drop for a tough team. I'm indifferent.
#3 American Raider He's a reliable finisher, but he has had a lot of chances already and is always vulnerable to someone getting the jump on him. Capable.
Race Summary Coal Boss would be appealing at something near the 5/1 ML offering, as he should find a first-over spot on a soft pace.
    Churchill Downs - Race #7
    Picks Notes
#9 Joint Venture He stopped badly in that last one, but he'll run off the claim today with some speed in a race without much early burn. Interesting for the new team.
#1 Golden Plate Considered him on top and would want him covered on the tickets, as he's getting some class relief in a spot that might line up well on class from his $40,000 graduation a few starts back.
#3 J T's Imagination Tactical pace fits well and wouldn't surprise, but I worry that he doesn't always punch home with a lot of enthusiasm. Underlay?
Race Summary Joint Venture has some outside pace that might allow him to hustle for the front and then try to back things up a little bit, and the price should be fair enough while bringing dull form against winners.
    Churchill Downs - Race #8
    Picks Notes
#2 Loveland She's a good fit here for the new connections, and she has some occasional spying pace that might serve her well in this spot. Dangerous at another short kind of price?
#6 Beelieve Her Her inability to stay late is my main concern, but she's fast enough to stay in a good spot turning for home -- a one-paced run from there might land a piece.
#9 Bolt on the Rocks She'll make her local debut after a couple of mild Turfway tries, but I like the fact that she moved forward last out. Any additional upside puts her in the frame.
Race Summary Loveland should be able to find a perfect spying spot against this bunch, and I feel like most of the races on her page should win this.

    Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

    Gulfstream Park - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#7 SIXTEEN CIGARETTES (8-5) Handled class hike off claim, rivals are a combined 6-for-93.
#5 DIVINING STONE (6-1) Outrun twice on turf, finished in the money in prior five main-track routes.
#2 EL ROJO VIVO (4-1) Romped to top speed figure in 12-horse field at Tampa with second-time Lasix.
Race Summary SIXTEEN CIGARETTES tracked the dueling leaders, followed the move of the 2-to-1 winner and finished second in the same spot for his new connections. He has tactical speed and a good post to use it from as he tries to overcome his money-burning history. Bet to win and place and play a 2-5-7 exacta box.
    Gulfstream Park - Race #3
    Picks Notes
#8 JAMES GANG (7-2) Plays catch-me-if-you-can off freshening for new barn.
#9 WARLORD CRUZAN (6-1) Recent works encouraging for first-time gelding, price attached.
#4 ACAMAR (5-2) In good form at proven distance on the all-weather surface.
Race Summary JAMES GANG lands in an ideal spot off the claim to carry his speed to a third win at 5-1/2F. He was bumped at the break, raced 5-wide and drifted in when he won six weeks ago. Bet to win and place and play an 8,9/4,8,9/ALL trifecta.
    Gulfstream Park - Race #4
    Picks Notes
#3 YOURAMYSTYLE (6-1) Can be excused for debut, wakeup candidate on surface switch.
#1 JONAS’ DREAM (7-5) Good first gear, held second at this level after year layoff, goes from 6F to 7F.
#6 NEVER SAY NEVER (8-1) First try on all-weather track as gelding, can rally for minor awards.
Race Summary YOURAMYSTYLE worked well on the main track but debuted on turf instead, unable to overcome a rough trip. He gets class relief, gets pace to run at and gets second-time Lasix with a change of rider. Bet to win and place.

    Churchill Downs - Race #6 - Post: 7:25pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $68,000 Class Rating: 87

    Rating:

    #5 LITTLE SISTER SUE (ML=8/1)
    #1 SPARKLE OF HOPE (ML=7/2)

LITTLE SISTER SUE - The latest speed rating of 77 is the best last race speed figure in the field. SPARKLE OF HOPE - Mare's last work was second fastest of the day for the distance. The morning line odds on this mare are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of conditioner Foley. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #6 WILLOW BEND (ML=5/2), #4 GORMLEY'S GABRIELA (ML=5/1), #3 PIONEER PARADE (ML=6/1),

WILLOW BEND - Finished fifth last time out of the box. Would have to move up to be in the money in today's race. This filly notched a speed figure in her last contest which likely isn't good enough in today's race. GORMLEY'S GABRIELA - 5/1 is not worth the risk for any mount in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a short distance clash of late. PIONEER PARADE - This less than sharp equine hasn't been near the victor at the finish lately. The speed rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this animal as a likely underpriced contender.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 LITTLE SISTER SUE is going to be the play if we are getting 9/5 or better

Race 7 - Optional Claiming - 8.3f on the Turf. Purse: $41000 Class Rating: 89

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS WHICH HAVE NEVER WON A RACE OTHER THAN MAIDEN, CLAIMING, STARTER, OR RESTRICTED OR WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES OR CLAIMING PRICE $75,000. WEIGHT, 122 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE APRIL 23, 2024 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $75,000 (MAIDEN, CLAIMING, AND STARTER RACES NOT CONSIDERED IN ESTIMATING

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 6 UNCLE TRULY 2/1
    # 10 CLASS PHOTO 9/2
    # 3 MALINOIS 6/1

UNCLE TRULY is the most favorable bet in this race. Looks formidable for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figs in turf route races lately. I like the jockey on this colt - very good chance to win the contest. The speed figure of 89 from his last affair looks competitive in here. CLASS PHOTO - Reliable average Speed Figures in turf route races make this equine a solid choice. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this colt. MALINOIS - Expect a reliable outing with the class drop. Has the appearance of a money-making play.

    Race 5 - Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $34000 Class Rating: 80

FOR ACCREDITED OHIO FOALS THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON FOUR RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 119 LBS.; OLDER, 123 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE APRIL 23 ALLOWED 2 LBS. A RACE SINCE MARCH 23 ALLOWED 4 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $50,000.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 6 PROSECUTOR 9/5
    # 5 EAGLE NEST 2/1
    # 3 LITTLE TOY GUNS 7/2

PROSECUTOR is the strongest wager in this race. Is worth a close look and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figs (64 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Overall the Equibase speed figs of this animal look strong in this affair. Appears to be the type to be helped on Lasix here. EAGLE NEST - Has put up solid speed figs in dirt sprint races in the past. Has respectable front speed and ought to fare soundly against this field. LITTLE TOY GUNS - Has been moving solidly in races of this distance, going 2 out of 10 under similar conditions. Had one of the best speed figs of this group of animals in his last contest.

    Belterra Park - Race #1 - Post: 12:15pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,600 Class Rating: 66

    Rating:

    #4 MONJE SOLAIA (ML=3/1)
    #3 WHERE IS LISA (ML=4/1)

MONJE SOLAIA - A win percentage the likes of what Oliveros and Lobo have achieved together is fantastic. Going on Lasix for the first time. While a general handicapping angle, it's still quite useful for handicapping purposes. WHERE IS LISA - This horse should be rumbling down the stretch.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 SERGEANT GUMP (ML=2/1), #2 KOHAKU (ML=7/2), #5 PAYMASTER GENERAL (ML=5/1),

SERGEANT GUMP - 2/1 is just too low of a price to take on this entrant. KOHAKU - Doubtful for this participant to make an impact with no success lately in a sprint affair. PAYMASTER GENERAL - Not easy to wager on any horse in a sprint race at 5/1 when he hasn't shown any successful efforts in sprints in the last sixty days. This gelding recorded a speed rating in his last event which probably isn't good enough today.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #4 MONJE SOLAIA on the nose if you can get odds of 3/2 or more
    EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,4]
