Jacksonville +6.5 over Indianapolis (21-10 YTD!)
The Colts can clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight, however this team is banged up big time and it is not good for them to be playing on such a short week of rest. Joseph Addai might not play and even if he does I do not see the Colts running the ball on the Jaguars defensive line. Payton Manning is going to have to throw the ball a lot and it doesn't help that Marvin Harrison is out tonight. To make matters worst Dallas Clark is banged up and so if 60% of the offensive line. This Colts team could be in major trouble tonight and for the rest of the regular season. The Jaguars had a very disappointing season, but there is no denying that they have a load of talent. This team underachieved and would like to do nothing more than make Indy wait another week to make the playoffs or perhaps miss them entirely. Jacksonville has a big offensive line going against a very undersized Colts Defense. Indianapolis is even hurting on defense with their LB's shuffled and Freeney and Sanders nursing injuries. Jacksonville already beat the Colts on the road this season and match up very well today. This is worth a moneyline play of +220. Take the Jaguars.

(713) WESTERN KENTUCKY
(714) SOUTH ALABAMA
Take "(713) WESTERN KENTUCKY"

Free opinion is Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers are a pretty decent team, not as good as last year to be sure, but still very capable of making noise again in the Sun Belt. They were awful last game as they were annihilated at Evansville, but watch for Western Kentucky to bounce back with a much better effort tonight in a big game at South Alabama. I look for a tight skirmish that goes to the wire, and I'm backing the visiting Hilltoppers plus the points.

INDIANAPOLIS 24 - Jacksonville 19 - (8:15 - NFL) -- Seven straight wins for the
Colts, with but 3 covers in that stretch, with their last 3 RGs decided by just 4, 3,
& 4 pts straightup. But this is a revenger, & Peyton is in synch (28-of-37 for 318
yds vs hapless Lions), & now 23/12 for the season. Jags in off snapping 4-game
SU slide, as well as 0-6 ATS home run slide. Thus, the dog is now 15-2 ATS in
J'Ville games. The Jags are 9-2 ATS in Dec, vs an opponent off a pair of wins, as
well as 8-2 ATS as division dogs. Another? Okay, they are 6-2 ATS vs the Colts.
And Indy is just a 1-8 ATS chalk, off a double digit win vs an opponent off a win.

@Jaguars (+6½) over Colts
Selection and Analysis by Dave Fobare
In their 31-21 win over the toothless Lions the Colts became the first team in NFL history to reel off a 7+ game winning streak in 6 consecutive seasons. Impressive on its face, but the Colts are just 3-3-1 ATS over that streak, and not one of the last 5 wins have come over opponents with a combined record of 19-49-1. Indy is just 5-4-1 ATS in their 10 wins as seven of those have come by less than the touchdown Jacksonville is receiving here. And the undermanned Lions played the Colts well despite the travails of QB Dan Orlovsky, who made his return to the lineup after just 4 weeks off recuperating a throwing hand with multiple fractures.

I love playing against high scoring teams, and my database pops a negative 32-63 ATS system based on the Colts last 2 offensive outputs of 31 and 35 points. These public darlings have failed to cover in this spot by an average of 6 points per game and this spot is 0-2 in 2008.

As we reach the end of the season my database contains a number of special situations for the occasion. The Colts will finish up the 2008 campaign at home, and therefore apply to a negative 7-30 ATS "last game lookahead" play. This play works particularly well when our team is on an
extended winning streak. These teams are not only 0-6 ATS when entering Game 15 off four or more wins, but have won straight up only once in that span despite an average price of -9. Let's not forget the Jaguars either. Off their 20-16 upset win over Green Bay they qualify in a 25-6 ATS "bad team off a win" system that won its only 2008
appearance on Cincinnati in their infamous 13-13 tie against the Eagles.

The Colts looked disinterested against the 0-14 Lions, and while they will not look past a 4-9 Jags outfit that beat them 23-21 back in the third game of the season. But the Colts have to work a bit too hard to score most of their points. Detroit has by far the worst secondary in the league
and Peyton Manning could only go up top successfully once all game. Indy will be able to move the chains on Jacksonville, but with a diminished quick strike ability and a much sexier game at home against the Titans awaiting
them next week I expect the Colts to stub their toe just enough to let the Jags stay with them until the end. Indianapolis by 1

Indianapolis over JACKSONVILLE by 3
If momentum is a key to a team’s playoff hopes then the Colts are playing
like locksmiths. Seven wins in a row and counting, Indy invades Jacksonville with the added incentive of revenge from a 23-21 home loss in Week Two earlier this season. The jamb in their plans is a nasty late season angle that fi nds dogs in Last Home Games in money-making moods when playing off SU underdog wins as these teams are 34-15-1 ATS, including 17-5-1 ATS against an opponent off back-to-back wins. Despite the Ponies’ 5-1 SU and 5-0-1 ATS log on Thursdays, we’ll stand up and Yale with the Jags.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008 Indianapolis (-6½) JACKSONVILLE (45) 7:15 PM

The NFL network had to be thrilled to land this match-up before the season started but it much less appealing with the Jaguars completely
collapsing this season. Indianapolis has not been dominant but the Colts have now won seven consecutive games and should coast into the
playoffs as the top wild card team. The Jaguars snapped a four-game losing streak with its first ATS win at home all season long last week but the offense has topped 20 points just once in the last eight games. Jacksonville actually features a far superior run defense to the Colts and the Jaguars could be a dangerous home underdog. COLTS BY 3

Bob Balfe's Huge Special Release Colts at Jaguars

Tonight will be a great divisional game between the Colts and Jaguars. Its not often that I release moneylines, but when I do they usually cash the ticket! The circumstances in this game call for us to take a shot. Read my writeup below.

Game: San Antonio Spurs @ Orlando Magic - Thursday December 18, 2008 8:00 pm
Pick: 2 units ATS: Orlando Magic -3.5 (-110)

We love to go against Spurs in spots where we believe they are vulnerable, as they are still a “public team” with lots of betting support, so we typically get good “lines” whenever we bet against them. And during the latter part of last season we discovered some very distinct tendencies and scoring patterns for this Spurs team, which were reinforced in the playoffs and have statrted to show again this season. We have been waiting patiently for the perfect spot to pounce on this Spurs team that has struggled so far TY with injuries to key skill performers (mostly Ginobli and Parker), and still is not fully "in sync" even though both of those guys are back on the floor, and that spot was last night, in their 7 point loss to Hornets in New Orleans, where we had our BIGGEST WIN OF THE YEAR, for TEN UNITS on Hornets – two five unit picks, one ATS at –2 and one on money line at –130. Prior to last night’s game, the Spurs had played only two games TY visiting good teams, in which they are 1-1, victorious by 17 in Denver while betting blown out by 19 in Houston. But looking at their record LY in that mode, with basically the same team, Spurs were a crappy 6-12-1 ATS, including playoffs, with average MOL of 9 points (and they are just 3 or 3.5 point dogs here). In addition, there was a pretty distinct pattern in many of those games, particularly in the playoffs against the Hornets and Lakers, of Spurs either being close or even leading at the half, but then getting blown out in second half, mostly due to poor shooting. And Spurs did not disappoint us last night, as after three quarters of pretty good shooting and good all around play, resulting in a 7 point Spurs lead after three quarters, they totally self-destructed in the fourth, shooting under 30% and getting outscored 27-13 for the quarter, during which they threw up enough bricks to build a new arena next door, all leading to that exhilarating win for Hornets and +10 units for our subscribers. And that was just part of our MONSTER 5-0 NIGHT LAST NIGHT IN NBA, where we went 5-0 for +17.4 UNITS.

And tonite we find Spurs in another vulnerable spot, having to take a late night flight to Orlando after their come from ahead loss in the Big Easy, and then having to play a rested 19-6 Magic team. Moreover, Spurs have been pretty bad lately playing “back to backs,” already 1-4 ATS TY in that mode, and LY 5-12 ATS, incl 3-7 when the second game was on the road. On the other hand, Orlando will be well rested, with two days rest after returning home from their recent western trip. And Magic are 3-0-1 ATS TY (average win by 4.5 points in those four) when playing on two days rest, as well as 4-0 ATS when playing on at least one day of rest against an unrested team (like SA tonite).

So with all of these edges for Magic, why aren’t we “pounding” them like we did New Orleans last night? Well, there are two reasons. First and foremost is the “questionable” playing status of Magic star forward Dwight Howard, who has missed his last two games with a sprained knee and is officially listed as “questionable” for tonite’s game. Howard not only is leading his team in scoring (21 ppg) and rebounds (14 pg), but he had a field day in each of Magic’s games LY against Spurs, averaging 29 points and 19 rebounds. We will have an update on Howard’s condition and likelihood of playing tonite when we update our pick write up for our subscribers later today. The other reason for holding back on Magic is that they have not been that great at home vs the NBA’s top teams, and despite the “negatives” pointed out above for Spurs in negative scheduling situations like tonite, Spurs are still one of the NBA’s “elite” teams. Magic were just 4-5 ATS LY vs A teams at home (with an average margin of loss of 4 points), including a ten point home loss to SA, “gagged” at home vs Detroit in playoffs, and they are 0-1 (a 5 point loss to Houston) in their one home game TY vs a top team, in addition to two other home losses TY to “B” teams Portland and Atlanta..

So we’ll keep it at two units on Magic at -3.5 or less, but we might “unofficially” increase the units if we are able to get reliable information that Howard not only will play tonite but that his mobility, jumping and shooting no longer seem to be significantly impaired by his ankle injury.

One final note about a possible second half value bet on Magic -- while we cannot assume that this will happen again tonite, it should be noted that NO was behind at HT and after 3Q vs Spurs, only to bury them in the fourth quarter. So we suggest that whatever you plan to play on Magic, hold back half of it for a possible second half bet on Orlando, knowing that you won’t have a second half bet on them if they are up at the half and the HT score and second half line results in a worse adjusted game line on Magic than their pre-game point spread. But if the value is there for a second half bet on Magic (e.g, if adjusted game line based on HT score and 2H line is pick or better), and not only is Dwight Howard playing but there are no game ending first half injuries to him or any other key Magic player, then go for it.

(POD) PHOENIX SUNS & PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS UNDER 201.5

Hold on a minute taking the under in a Suns game, are you serious? Why Yes I am. This number is screaming trap. The Suns have played to the over in 9 of t heir last 10 games and they set this line at just over 200? The blazers know that they can't get in a run and gun kind of game and hope to stick with Phoenix and as such they will be stressing defense on their night off (yesterday). Part of this play is predicated on thinking the Blazers will control their home court and slam the breaks on the pace of the game and stifle the tempo of the suns. Also Richardson has had little time to adjust to his new teammates and will cause a little problem in keeping the team running which furthers our under. Ultimately, I see the Blazers controlling the game from start to finish and getting a big lead that will allow them to milk the shot clock in the fourth quarter causing the game to go under.

4 Unit Play. #1 Take Indianapolis over Jacksonville (8:15 NFL Network) The Colts enter this game on fire having won seven straight years and a win here will likely get them into the playoffs as a wild card. The Jaguars always seem to get up for the Colts but this game at this date they do not have the bullets to compete with the Colts. During this winning streak QB Manning has been outstanding over this winning streak with a 13-3 touchdown to interception ratio. The Colts stop the run and beat the Jags over the top with the pass

4 Unit Play. #710 Take Troy over Florida Atlantic (8:00 pm) The Trojans come into this game having lost three straight but they will notch their first victory tonight in the Sun Belt against Florida Atlantic. The Owls have not been much better having lost five of six with their only victory coming against SE Louisiana. This losing streak includes some shaky losses to Denver, Florida Gulf Coast, and McNeese State. We full expect home court to be the difference in this contest and since this one is being played @ Trojan Arena, we will side with the team from Troy. The Owls are 0-5 away from South Florida and do not expect their first victory to come tonight in Alabama.

3 Unit Play. #704 Take Over in Phoenix @ Portland (10:35 pm TNT) The Suns have been going back to the old days recently and because of that their scoring has been high. We will not worry about who wins this game on Thursday and just collect with the over. Phoenix has combined to go over tonight’s total in nine of their last 10 games and you can expect more of the same on Thursday.

Two 5* Selections Today:

I am returning to something that I did last year when I did just 1 play per day per each sport and had success of getting over 60% for 7 straight months. I wanted to try this given what I was seeing from the latest numbers we've been tracking with my plays. I still believe that the more you butt your head against Vegas the less likely you are to succeed so look for just 1 POD per day in the NBA and College Basketball every day for at least the next week. I believe this will likely lead us to more profit as we ride our best play due to our research and that should yield us a steady dose of winning days and everything else should take care of itself. Bear with me as I re-start this to see where it takes us. thanks.

The Morehead State Eagles are quietly soaring under the radar and there is a reason they are favored today. This team faced some incredibly tough non-conference games on their schedule including Vanderbilt, Drake and Louisville. That worked out extremelyl well for this team as it prepared them for their conference games which they have fared much better. Remember, although this team is ranked 270 in most power rankings, they have done wonders the last four games. Consequently, they are ona 4-0 ATS streak over their last four games. This team:

Beat Central Florida on neutral ground in New Mexico: 71-65. That is a team that is similarly ranked with James Madison btw. Then, this team beat Tennessee Martin at home 80-71, another team ranked in the top 220. Remember, James Madison is ranked in the top 230. Then, it what might be the biggest shocker of the year, this team beat Murray State at home 79-74 in a game they were 6.5 dogs and then went on the road recently to lose by just 6 points to an Illinois State team that was favored ovedr them by 18 points. Now, this team faces a James Madison team that beat them and beat the pulp out of them 89-57 last year. You think Morehead State isn't ready for this game in a big way. What stinks is that this team is in the afternoon, but regardless, I like Morehead State coming off a loss in the confines of their home here as they have beat better teams like Murray State by 7 and I can see them getting revenge here and winning by about 12 points. The James Madison Dukes are 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games and the Eagles once again are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall.

5 Unit Play. #704. NBA Game of the Week: Take Portland Trail Blazers -5 over Phoenix Suns (Thursday @ 10:30pm est). Well, whenever you see 65% of the public riding a dog that is usually a good sign to move far away from that game. In fact, it is a good sign to go the other way. Phoenix has beat this team in back to back games 102-92 and 107-96 in the first two games of the year thus far. So, this is a huge revenge game for Portland no matter how you slice it. Tack on the fact that this team is 8-2 at home while Phoenix is just 7-5 on the road it makes up for a split that is in our favor. Keep in mind that I firmly believe that Nate McMillan is the better coach between these two teams as Coach Porter of the Suns to me is just a hack that simply has players that can play and if you give him a young crop of players like Nate has, he couldn't teach them to run a single offense. What the Suns have is the remnants of Mike D'Antoni's genius which he is proving works in New York as well. Remember, Phoenix lost by 15 to Dallas and 13 to New Orleans on the road earlier this year. Portland beat the likes of New Orleans at home by 15 when they had revenge and this is the exact same situation. Expect Portland to be absolutely fired up for this game and win this game by double-digits as I expect 65% of the public to get buried here while we cash in our NBA GOW with the Portland Trail Blazers by 12 over the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games on the road as ATS Underdogs while the Blazers are 4-1 ATS when facing a winning team at home meaning they "show up" well against the better teams in the league in their house.
