The thing that hurts the Yankees IMO is the sign players to such huge contracts.
Think about it you're a player that busts your but your whole career trying to get a big contract.Then you're around 30 you sign a 10 year around 200 million dollar deal and know you are set for your career and that will be your last contract you ever get .What is now your incentive to put that extra effort forth? I'm not saying they wont try anymore but I'm saying the extra work they use to do is less likely because they now have that huge contract. Players get too comfortable imo when they have a huge contract in place

We also dumped the salaries of Pavano and Pettitte. Pettitte will probably be offered a 1yr $10million contract.

We traded Betemit to the White Sox for Nick Swisher.

Probably end up trading Swisher, Damon, or Matsui.
