Missouri

Game: Northwestern Wildcats @ Missouri Tigers - Monday December 29, 2008 8:00 pm
Pick: 3 units ATS: Northwestern Wildcats +12.5 (-110)

This spread is simply too high for us to not take a shot on Northwestern. After all, if you are Missouri, for a team that was thought to be in the National Title hunt at the start of the year, to who miserably underperformed expectations that they now have to play in the Alamo Bowl and not even a BCS game, how do you "get-up" for against a team like Northwestern. This is a team that competed for the Big 12 Title, and now has does not even have a BCS game to show for it. Yes, Sutton is questionable for this game, but Northwestern does have other backs and I can't imagine Sutton truly missing this game. Note that Mizzou will have the crowd behind them of course, but, this is still a Big 10 team that defeated Iowa on the road which is very tough to do, beat Illinois and Zuk by 17 at home, beat Michigan on the road by a touchdown and Missouri did have four losses this year including the hiccup in the game to a nonranked team right before Oklahoma. Missouri has failed to cover their last four of five games and I believe we are on solid ground taking a Big 10 team who is catching 12.5 points having defeated some competent teams and who faces a Missouri defense that is very suspect. One thing that Northwestern does having going for them is a sound offense and in what is expected to be a high scoring game totaled at 66.5, why not take a shot on a great top 25 offense to squeeze inside the number and if a few plays go in our favor, Northwestern might be more competitive than most people realize in this game, especially if Missouri takes this team lightly by not showing up in the first half. I think Northwestern wants to be here and will wear the dog tag proud in this game.

2 Unit Play. #228 Take Missouri over Northwestern (Monday 12/29 5:00 PM ESPN Alamo Bowl) While Northwestern will play hard in this game and keep things close, Missouri offense is far too explosive to be held in check. Chase Daniel’s last game as a Tiger, I’m looking for a big day for the Missouri offense. Northwestern doesn’t have the offense to hang around. Missouri is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games

DOC

4 Unit Play. #733 Take Cincinnati over Memphis (9:00 pm) Not a chance Memphis warrants to be laying this big of a spread against a decent team from the Big East. The Tigers just do not have the scoring punch of last year to be able to cover this big of a number. The Bearcats are 10-2 and 1-0 in true road games this season with a victory at UNLV. This will be much closer then what the experts think and we will easily collect in the process behind Deonta Vaughn and company.

Ai Simulator 10* graded play UNDER Missouri/Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl. For once this season the Missouri defense will be facing a team they matchup well against and based on the AiS projections I fully expect them to play extremely well. Missouri has faced the strongest and most prolific offenses in the nation and this experience will have them well prepared to face an average offense in Northwestern. AiS also shows an 88% probability that Northwestern will not gain more than 150 rushing yards. Note that Missouri is 6-0 OVER (+6.0 Units) when they allow 100 to 150 rushing yards over the last 2 seasons. Supporting this graded play is a strong system that has produced a record of 37-8 UNDER for 82% since 1997 and is a perfect 7-0 UNDER this season. Play under with any team against the total in non-conference games and are off 2 straight losses to conference rivals allowing 31 points or more. Here is a second system that has gone 30-8 UNDER for 79% since 2002. Play under with all teams where the total is greater than or equal to 63 after covering the spread in 3 out of their last 4 games and is a good team winning 60-80% or more of their games on the season. Reflecting the "seasoning" that Missouri has endured this season Northwestern is 9-1 UNDER (+7.9 Units) versus passing defenses allowing a completion percentage of 62% or worse since 1992. Again, Northwestern is NOT Texas tech, Texas, or Oklahoma by any stretch of analysis. Even against Michigan and Illinois, Northwestern, did not rush the ball well. Note that they are 9-1 UNDER (+7.9 Units) after gaining 125 or less rushing yards in 2 straight games since 1992. Take the UNDER.

PapaJohns.com Bowl
Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama
10 Units on NC State (+7) over Rutgers
North Carolina St. (6-6) vs. Rutgers (7-5)- This game features two teams that come in red hot. Rutgers winning their last 5 and NC State their last 4. The Wolfpack’s season turned around after some tough early season losses. Redshirt Freshman QB Russell Wilson has really stepped in and taken control of the offense and does a great job of not making costly mistakes, while still having the ability to make plays. Running Back Andre Brown should have a good day running the ball and help keep the explosive Rutgers offense off the field. Rutgers is a team that came into the season with high expectations and played horribly out of the gate. They have made an amazing recovery led by Senior QB Mike Teel and talented Wide Receiver Kenny Britt. Offensively they have shown the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Teel will look to end his career with a victory, but I don’t think it will happen. NC State has played a tough schedule and some of their tough losses have really helped them to mature as a football team, look for them to spring the upset in a tight game. NC State by 3-7.

Valero Alamo Bowl
Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas
15 Units on Northwestern (+13) over Missouri
Missouri (9-4) vs. Northwestern (9-3)- Northwestern couldn’t be happier to be in the Alamo Bowl. They came into the season expected to be at best a .500 team, and have shocked everybody with the season they’ve had. On the other hand, Missouri couldn’t be more disappointed to be in this game. The Tigers came into the season with National Championship aspirations, but have stumbled at every major hurdle throughout the year. Northwestern’s offense will be bolstered by the return of leading rusher Tyrell Sutton, who has missed the last four games with a wrist injury. The Wildcat offense should be able to put up enough points against a struggling Missouri defense to keep the game close. On the other side of the ball, Missouri features one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, orchestrated by QB Chase Daniel. He will look to get the ball into the hands of Jeremy Maclin any way he can, to allow Maclin to use his dynamic speed and running ability to find the endzone. They will also look to find All American tight end Chase Coffman. In the end, Missouri will have too much offensive firepower for Northwestern, but the Wildcats should keep it close into the 4th quarter. Missouri by 7-10.

3 Unit Play. #742 Take Over 145 in Long Beach State @ Oregon (10:00 pm CSN) The Ducks still play an up and down style and that bodes well in this game with a strong selection on the over. The 49ers are no slouch as well and are averaging over 70 points per game. They will hit that mark tonight but we will not worry if the Ducks can cover this double digit number and easily collect with the over.

3 Unit Play. #761 Take Portland State +13 ½ over Baylor (8:00 pm) The Bears are likely going to be a tournament team this season but have feasted on cupcakes over their last three contests and struggled to beat two of them in Waco. Now they face a strong mid-major that already has a victory over Gonzaga on their resume. The Vikings are 7-3 on the season and also have a winning record away from home of 5-3.

3 Unit Play. #766 Take Northern Colorado -4 over Northern Arizona (9:00 pm) Two bad teams are set to do battle at Butler-Hancock Arena tonight in Greenly, Colorado. The one stat that sticks out and makes this a play for the Bears is that the Lumberjacks are 0-7 away from Flagstaff this season.

Game: C. Michigan at Kentucky (6:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on C. Michigan +21.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

This line is big thanks to Central Michigan having lost six of their last seven and all but one road game this season. But can the Wildcats cover this huge number? Consider that their big wins this season have come against very weak competition. They have played games vs. Delaware State, Longwood, Lamar, Appalachian State, Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic this season, padding their numbers. They were 24 point favorites vs. Fla Atlantic and won by just 7 points last game. I think this number is too large and will back the road team here.

Game: Niagara vs. Murray State (7:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 139 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

After winning five straight to start the season, Murray State has lost four of five. The last time they saw action they were embarrassed, putting up just 41 points. I like that to provide motivation for them to bring their A game offensively here. They shot 27.7% from the field in that game and went 0-for-15 from beyond the arc. The focus for this team since that game has to have been on offense and teams rarely put up two awful performances like that in a row. Prior to that game, the Racers scored 78, 64, 64 and 78 in their prior four games while giving up 76, 73, 75 and 79. Niagara can score as they average 77 points per game. The thing that can keep this one UNDER is another really bad performance by Murray's offense and I don't expect that. I like this game to go OVER.

Game: Long Beach State at Oregon (10:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Long Beach State +9.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)

Oregon is coming off an overtime win and can't be too excited to face LBS here as they look ahead to conference play on deck. Both of these teams have identical records and similar scoring profiles, so why is this line so big? Yes, it's a home game for Oregon, but this is too many points, especially considering that the Ducks have the lesser defense on the court tonight. I like LBS to keep this game close.

Game: James Madison vs. U T E P (11:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 149 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

James Madison has been very consistent this season, averaging around 140 points per game whether it be on the road, at home, early or recent play. We know what we get from this team. UTEP has been a scoring machine at home (82.5 ppg) but on the road their average drops by a full 10 points. This is the highest total seen in a James Madison game all season and despite that they have gone UNDER in every game but two thus far. I like this one to go UNDER.
We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units). Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).

Game: Denver at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Atlanta -5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Pick: 2 units on Game Total UNDER 200 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8)

The fact that they are under the radar thanks to th Celtics, Cavs and Magic, the Hawks are undervalued, especially at home. Atlanta is 13-2 at home and Denver is 9-7 on the road. Five points here simply is not enough. Right now the Hawks are clicking offensively as they have averaged 103 ppg over their last five. Denver's defense is not playing well right now (102 per game allowed over their last five). I like the Hawks to get the win and cover. I also like this game to go UNDER. Atlanta wil bring defensive intensity to this one, as they have all season. They are holding opponents to 93.1 per game at home and holding foes to 5 points under their average all season. If they do that to Denver, the Nuggets will score in the mid 90s here. And Atlanta should get around 100. Take the Hawks and the UNDER.

Game: Washington at Houston (8:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total OVER 189.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)

The Wizards are 1-11 on the road this season and the reason is not offense but defense. They are giving up 101 per game away from home. Houston scores over 100 at home. So, the Rockets should easily get to triple figures here and the Wizards should be able to get over 90. The recent play of Houston underscores this as their last five games have averaged 9 points per game higher than their season average and they have gone 4-1 OVER as a result. The Rockets are coming off a home game and they are 11-1 OVER in that situation this season.

double-dime bet228 Missouri -12.0 (-110) BetUS vs 227 Northwestern
Analysis: Stan is Betting MISSOURI today. Stan notes that Missouri's offense is going to be too much for Northwestern. The Big 10 has no offenses like what Northwestern will see today. Missouri will score early and build a lead which will force Northwestern into playing catch up which will result in turnovers. This one gets ugly early. Stan has Missouri winning by 17-21 points. TAKE MISSOURI as STAN'S ALAMO BOWL BIG BET and make them a DOUBLE DIME PLAY.

NBA (Pod) 4 Unit Play. #708. Take Oklahoma City Thunder +9.5 over Phoenix Suns (Monday @ 8:05pm est).

NFL Goy: Winner: San Fran -2.5 over Redskins (released on Friday evening). (Now 23-7 with 5* selections and 2-0 Lifetime with Nfl Goy).
8-1 NFL (4-0 Streak) Last 3 Weeks in the NFL.
NBA: 4-2: +7.2 units last week. (4 of 6 winning days)
Overall winning week last week.
Up in Football this week, Thursday completes the football week, looking for Winning Week #4 in a row.

You already received the two selections for the bowl games today on Friday evening.

Is it all that improbable to think OKC could not cover this spread? This team is catching 9.5 points at home to Phoenix after they lost to them at home by just 1 point last time around 98-99. Note, that Phoenix does come off a 1 point loss to the Spurs at home so they are not in a good mood necessarily but this is the same team that has lost its last 4 contests on the road while OKC has covered 6 of their last 8. OKC has quietly gone unnoticed during this ATS streak as folks just see their 3-28 SU record. But, what they fail to see is the fact with a new coach, this team is working hard and consistently and sports an 18-13 ATS streak while Phoenix sports a 11-16 ATS streak. Phoenix is the public team. In fact, they are favored by the public over 70% today. We have the dog. We have the home dog. On top of all that, we have a home dog with revenge who lost to this team by just 1 point last time around and who comes off a fourth quarter collapse so they will be itching to play again. Don't forget OKC defeated the Raptors at home outright as 6 point dogs and won by 8, covered against the Cavs at home, covered against the Hawks on the road and covered against the Pistons on the road as well losing by just a bucket. We'll take the 9.5 with the dog, the home dog, the home dog with revenge, the home dog with revenge fading the public and the home dog with revenge fading the public with the team that has been better with the ATS factors of late.

CBB (Pod) 4 Unit Play. #756. Take Niagara -5 over Murray State (Monday @ 6pm Eastern). I was doing the research on the college basketball card and came across Hawaii as a possibility over George Washington as that is a home game for Hawaii and they had defeated the likes of Iowa State at before that, but thought that is going to be a battle back and forth against GW. Then, I came across my favorite team of the 2008-2009 season as they have a game today against Murray State. These two teams have no recent meetings. This game is on neutral footing in Chattanooga, Tennessee and goes off at 6pm eastern. Thus, the crowd will not be a factor and even if it is, it doesn't matter. I was on Niagara went they went to St. Bonny as a small 2 to 3 point chalk and they ended up winning by 18. This team is 9-1 ATS. They are 9-2 on the season and their only two losses come to Villanova (which they covered) and Akron at home. This team has gone on the road as mentioned to beat St. Bonny by 18, Drexel by 5 on the road, South Florida by 15 on the road, Loyola Maryland by 16 on the road and Buffalo by 4 on the road. This team is bringing back talent and senior leadership and I will gladly take them as a point chalk here on not even a "road" floor but a neutral floor. I am not taking anything away from Murray State as the Racers are a good team. But, remember, just to give you an example that the Racers might not be as in sync as Niagara, the Racers lost to South Florida on a neutral floor 64-73. Take this with the fact that Niagara went on the road to South Florida and beat them by 15. I'll lay the points here with Niagara to win by 10-12 against the Racers in Chattanooga. Besides, Niagara is averaging 76ppg against as tough or even tougher competition than Murray State who is only averaging 60.5 ppg. Niagara will be a tough match here for Murray State.

Good luck,

Had rutgers and NW in the bowls
