Nebraska +2 vs Clemson

In all our years of watching College Football on New Years Day, we can't remember a single more undeserving team to get the coveted spot than this year's edition of the Clemson Tigers. Sure, they were SUPPOSED to get here as they were a consensus top ten team in the country before the season started and the favorite to win the ACC. But they never lived up to expectations, got Tommy Bowden fired and went just 4-4 in conference play. They should consider this bowl invite a gift considering that there were three conference teams with better records than the Tigers, two of which beat them H2H, that are already done for the season. You might think that this kind of lucky invite could help galvanize Clemson, but you would be wrong. It just never happened this year. The Davis/Spiller RB combo combined for just 200 yards once in 11 lined games this season. There is turmoil on the coaching staff, with new assistants coming in, which will serve to distract and unmotivate the current employees. Meanwhile, on the Nebraska sidelines, 1st year HC Bo Pelini made tremendous strides in returning this program to its roots. The Cornhuskers offense has gone back to run-first and it paid off with the average time of possession coming in at over 33 minutes per game. Nebraska averages over 36 PPG. Clemson is 0-6 ATS when allowing 28+ points. The right team was favored initially, so we take advantage of the public's mistake and call for the outright "upset" in the 2009 Gator Bowl. Nebraska is our "VEGAS ICON" Play.

Michigan St. at Georgia
Prediction: Georgia

I am a big fan of Michigan St. head coach Mark Dantonio and what he is doing to this program but his team is outmatched in this spot. I made reference in the Iowa/South Carolina matchup that the SEC had a down year and Georgia was part of that making the Big Ten the conference with the value. However, the two big opponents the Spartans faced, Ohio St. and Penn St., blew them out. They snuck by Iowa and Wisconsin and beat Northwestern by 17 points despite getting outgained by 162 total yards. The Bulldogs never recovered from their blowout loss against Florida as they snuck by both Auburn and Kentucky, although those games were on the road, and then lost to Georgia Tech in the season finale. The good news is that the time off from then until now can only help Georgia. The Bulldogs have a solid coach of their own in Mark Richt and he knows how to get the troops ready as they have won seven of their last eight non-BCS bowl games. Michigan St. struggled defensively against some of the tougher offenses and Georgia has the firepower to put up a lot of points with a first round draft pick at quarterback in Matthew Stafford and a great running back in Knowshon Moreno. Georgia is a solid 19-5 ATS in its last 24 non-conference road games while Michigan St. is just 2-10 ATS in its last 12 games after allowing more than 6.25 yppl in its last game. The Bulldogs bounce back and win this one going away. 5* Georgia Bulldogs

50 Units on Iowa (-4) over South Carolina
South Carolina (7-5) vs. Iowa (8-4)- South Carolina comes into this game struggling, especially on offense. If the Gamecocks expect to win this game they will have to get a big effort out of a defense that has been very good at times this year. Offensively, they have really struggled and things won’t get any easier against an Iowa defense that has been dominant. The Hawkeyes offense is centered around Doak Walker award winner Shonn Greene. Greene is the only player in the country to run for 100 yards in every game this season, and this one shouldn’t be any different. The South Carolina defense will undoubtedly focus on stopping Greene, which will mean Iowa will need to get some plays out of QB Ricky Stanzi. If Stanzi can do enough to keep the Gamecocks defense honest, Greene should have some room to run. Look for Iowa to dominate on defense and get enough plays out of their offense to win handily. Iowa by 13-17.

Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Jacksonville, Florida
10 Units on Clemson (-1) over Nebraska
Nebraska (8-4) vs. Clemson (7-5)- When the season began Clemson expected to be playing on New Year’s Day. They just didn’t expect it to be with Dabo Swinney as their head coach. The Tigers managed to salvage their season after a disappointing start and the firing of Tommy Bowden. Nebraska’s season can only be categorized as a success. They have won five of their last six under first year coach Beau Pelini, and have played better than expected most of the season. In this game the Huskers will look to overpower Clemson with a huge offensive line and an efficient passing game. Joe Ganz comes in completing 70 percent of his passes. He will look to spread the ball around to a lot of weapons and keep the Clemson defense off balance. Clemson’s Cullen Harper will be looking to end his career on a high note after many ups and downs. The Tiger’s dynamic backfield duo of James Davis and CJ Spiller will show what they are capable of after a disappointing season for both. In the end I look for Clemson’s talent to come through and get the victory in what should be an entertaining game. Clemson by 4-7.

Capital One Bowl
Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, Orlando, Florida
100 Units on Georgia (-8.5) over Michigan St.
Georgia (9-3) vs. Michigan St. (9-3)- Many people expected Georgia to be playing for the National Championship at the beginning of the season. Those expectations weren’t lived up to, but this is still a very talented football team. Michigan St. has overachieved this season, but on the two occasions they’ve met teams that could be considered in Georgia’s class, they were blown out. Georgia QB Matthew Stafford could be making his last start as a Bulldog, and will make it a memorable one. Georgia has so many weapons on offense including running back Knowshon Moreno, Mohamed Massaquoi, and AJ Green. For the Spartans to keep it close, Javon Ringer will have to get close to 35 carries and control the clock. Georgia’s defense will be very aware of Ringer, and will try to force Bryan Hoyer to beat them, which he won’t be able to do. The Bulldogs win big. Georgia by 17-27.

Rose Bowl presented by Citi
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California
25 Units on USC (-9) over Penn St.
Penn St. (11-1) vs. Southern Cal (11-1)- All the talk coming into this game has been about the Trojan defense vs. the Nittany Lion offense, but I believe the other side of the ball will be the key. Penn St. features a great defense and will have to hold down the USC offense to stay in the game. QB Mark Sanchez will have to manage the game and spread the ball around to his many playmakers to keep the Penn St. defense off balance. USC’s Joe McKnight is as explosive a running back as there is in the country and could be the difference in this game. For Penn St. QB Darryl Clark will have to be patient and not force things because there won’t be much there against this defense. Expect to see some great defense in this game, and whichever team can make a couple of big plays to get the win. Look for those big plays from Joe McKnight. USC by 10-17.

Fed Ex Orange Bowl
Dolphin Stadium, Miami, Florida
10 Units on Virginia Tech (+2) over Cincinnati
Cincinnati (11-2) vs. Virginia Tech (9-4)- This is without a doubt the biggest game in the history of Cincinnati football, and they know it. Cincinnati will come out fired up and Virginia Tech better match the Bearcats intensity or they could be in trouble. Cincinnati’s defense will be one of the best the Hokies have seen and QB Tyrod Taylor will have to make plays with his feet to break the defense down. Cincinnati QB Tony Pike will have to be patient against an aggressive Virginia Tech defense. In a game so closely matched, special teams could be the difference, which should favor Virginia Tech. Hokies in a close one. Virginia Tech by 3-7.

100% Perfect Orange Bowl Beauty

VIRGINIA TECH vs CINCINNATI
Pick: VIRGINIA TECH +2.5

The Orange Bowl Thursday night is the setting for a showdown between the champs of the Big East (Cincinnati) and the ACC (Virginia Tech). The Bearcats have won 6 games in a row and head coach Brian Kelly is on everyone’s short list for a new hire in 2010. We don’t like the fact that they have surrendered 20 or more points in 4 of their final 5 games. That’s because Frank Beamer is 34-13 ATS as a head coach with Virginia Tech in games in which his team scores 20 or more points as an underdog, including 14-3 ATS against an .850 or greater opponent. The Hokies lost to Kansas as 3-point favorites in the Orange Bowl last year, making them an avenging bowl-returning dog. Toss in Beamer’s 4-0 ATS mark as a dog of 6 or fewer points off a SU and ATS win when taking on teams from the Big East and you can understand our admiration for the Techsters. After all, we have an affinity for bowl dogs with better defenses, especially those looking to make amends. Our database cements it with this play that tells us to: Play On any sub .700 ACC bowl dog of 5 or less points if the scored 10 or more points in their last game. That's because these teams are 12-2 SU and 13-1 ATS, including 11-0 ATS if the dog did not toss a shutout in its last game. Take the points with the Hokies.

JOHN RYAN - PAID & CONFIRMED

Ai Simulator 7* graded play Under Michigan State/Georgia - AiS shows a 80% probability that 55 or fewer points will be score in this game. AiS also shows that the Georgia defense will have a solid day and has an 88% probability of limiting MSU to 350 or fewer total yards. MSU is 9-1 UNDER (+7.9 Units) when they gain 300 to 350 total yards over the last 3 seasons. Supporting this graded play is a strong system that has produced a record of 45-17 ATS for 73% since 1992. Play under with any team against the total after failing to cover the spread in 5 or 6 out of their last 7 games when playing on a Thursday. Thursday is an important day of the week in CFB as it nearly always entails a game where the teams have additional rest 10 to 14 days. In this case the rest will sharpen the defenses and the offenses will be a rusty - again based on the AiS projections. Georgia HC Richt is 12-4 UNDER (+7.6 Units) after gaining 6.75 or more yards/play in their previous game. Take the UNDER for 7*.

25 DIME TWO-TEAM TEASER

GEORGIA and PENN STATE

Using the standard six points you receive in a 2-Team Teaser, reduce the price you are laying with Georgia while increasing the number of points you are getting with Penn State.

Georgia is right around -9. Penn State is priced most places at +9 1/2. Now, your prices might vary by a half-point or so, but using these current numbers above, you would make Georgia -3 versus Michigan State and Penn State +15 1/2 against Southern California.

4 Unit Play. #509. Take Denver +3.5 over New Orleans. (Thursday @ 3:30pm eastern). Denver is playing very well of late so we are going to take a shot on them here to win outright on the road. This is a conference game and of course, the majority of the public are favoring New Orleans at home here. Keep in mind that this is an afternoon game on New Year's Day. I can't imagine there being a full crowd there and in particular, in New Orleans on top of that. The last game that New Orleans played at home the attendance was 659 and that was against North Texas in the evening. I wouldn't be surprised if the attendance did not top 500 at the most today. Thus, little to no home court advantage. Tack on the fact that New Orleans beat this team last year 65-60 at home and 60-54 on the road, Denver has plenty of revenge coming into this game. Denver will get up for this game for that reason alone. Plus, the Pioneers are on a sound win streak. They have won 5 in a row including beating UC Riverside, top 150 Colorado State, Florida Atlantic and South Dakota State. Heck, this team even defeated Texas Arlington. This is not to take anything against New Orleans, but they come off losing to a team not even in Division I and they play a Denver team playing well that wants revenge badly. Plus, this is expected to be a very low scoring game so we will take our 3.5 points and look for the outright win here. Denver is a team that feeds off confidence as they are 9-2 ATS following a straight up win and 6-1 ATS when they allow 50 points or less to their opponent in their previous game.
