Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City Royals Kansas City Royals -125

The Royals started the season on absolute fire and they have definitely cooled off quite a bit following a miserable 0-5 roadtrip. After losing the first game against Baltimore in its four-game series against the Orioles, Kansas City won two of the final three games before winning this series opener last night to improve to 14-8 at home on the season. The Royals trail the Tigers by just a game in the American League Central and this is a rarity to be so close to first place a quarter of the way into the season. The run should go on. Prior to last night's loss, the Indians won their opener in Tampa Bay but lost their final three games to the Rays as the pitching remains abysmal on the road. Cleveland has a 6.80 ERA on the road this season which is the worst in baseball. The loss last night is one that can stick to a team for sometime as the Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out the win. That knocked the Cleveland Bullpen ERA to 5.84 on the season including a dismal 7.32 in road games. Gil Meche gets the call for Kansas City tonight and he has hit a rough patch. He has gone four straight games without a quality start after starting the season by tossing three quality outings in his first four. He lost his first outing to the Indians earlier this season but it was a quality performance and hew has now allowed three runs or fewer in five of his last six starts against Cleveland, posting a 3.29 ERA in those games. He faces off against Fausto Carmona who I backed in his last start and it paid off in an 11-7 Indians victory. He was not strong however as he allowed four runs in 5.1 innings, the sixth time in eight starts this season he has allowed at least four runs. He has a 7.07 ERA on the road and after posting five straight quality outings in his first five career starts against the Royals, he has an 8.26 ERA in his last three against Kansas City. The Indians are 8-22 in their last 30 road games against a team with a home winning percentage greater than .600 while the Royals are 16-6 in their last 22 home games against a team with a road winning percentage less than .400. 3* Kansas City Royals

Oakland Athletics vs. Tampa Bay Rays Tampa Bay Rays -175

These teams are heading in two different directions, as Oakland enters Wednesday's game losing 6 of their last 8 games, including 4 straight losses. On the other hand, Tampa Bay hosts this on a 4 game winning streak and starts lefty Kazmir on the mound. Kazmir has dominated Oakland, owing a 7-2 record while allowing just 2 Earned Runs in 18 Innings Pitched during his last 3 starts against the A's. Lay the lumber with this home Favorite as Tampa Bay is now 34-5 as home Favorites between -150 and -200.

$30.00 Guaranteed: Jack Clayton is off a tough loss with the Indians last night, blowing a 5-2 lead in the 9th with his Rare 6-Star Game of the Month. Bouncing back is only one game away and he will do it with a soft total, strong enough to be a 5-Star MLB Total of the Month! 5/19/2009

5* (901) Pirates/(902) Nationals Under the Total. This is not a powerful Pirate offense, ranked ninth in the NL in runs scored and on base percentage, plus a pitiful tenth in slugging. And they come to a park that is very big, a great pitcher's park. It doesn't help the Pittsburgh offense that Nyjer Morgan is banged up. Morgan sat out his third consecutive game with a left hamstring injury. Morgan ranks third on the team in batting (.304), second in RBIs (17), plus first in walks (16) and stolen bases (10). At least they have a good starter going here in Paul Maholm (3.51 ERA). The veteran lefty can qualify as an ace, as he's been consistent and is 3-1. Washington played a high scoring series here at home with Philadelphia over the weekend, but that was against a powerful defending champion lineup (and suspect pitching). Pittsburgh is solid in pitching depth. Meanwhile, Washington's usually lousy pitching staff does have a good starter going here in John Lannan, who doesn't walk anyone. Think he likes being home? Lannan has a 2.54 ERA in this big park. Play the Pirates/Nationals under the total.

$20.00 Guaranteed: My run of MLB dominance came to an end last night as the Nationals let the Pirates jump out early and their rally fell just short. I am still 15-6 in my last 21 plays, which I will happily take for the rest of the year. Tonight I have my NL Total of the Week ready to go and it will bring me right back to the top!! 5/20/2009

Houston/Milwaukee over 7.5 runs 8:05

I know that Gallardo has owned the Astros in the past, but the Brewers have had good success against Wandy Rodriquez. With the short porch in left I like Braun, Hall and Hardy's chance of hitting one in that area, but I also like the Astros have been swinging the bats lately. Many teams struggle in their first game back from a road trip and the Astros did last night, but I like them to bounce back tonight. If they score 3 runs then this game is going over and I don't expect them to score less than 5 as they finally solve some of Gallardo's puzzle. Milwaukee keeps on winning though as the Brewers take it 7-5!

1000? Orlando Magic

Take the Magic plus the points.

No doubt I could make a case for laying the points with the rested Cavaliers who have yet to be tested in the playoffs, but given how profitable Orlando has been in this head to head series over the years I want no part in laying double digits between the two best teams in the east tonight.

The Magic advancing to the conference finals with an easy win at Boston just days ago is not the team Cleveland wanted to be facing in this year’s Eastern Conference playoffs. You see for Orlando they have been a more thorn in the Cavaliers side as the Magic won the regular season series by winning 2 of the 3 games straight up while going a perfect 3-0 ATS, including the most recent meeting where Orlando crushed Cleveland 116-87 as a 3’ point favorite. But the numbers don’t stop there as over the years as Orlando has covered 10 of the last 11 meetings, including a perfect 5-0 ATS mark in their last five trips in Cleveland.

Meanwhile, for Cleveland I see their run of 8 straight double digit playoff wins ending tonight as Orlando is a major step up in competition and a tougher team for Cleveland to match up with due to Howard down low and shooters spread out everywhere.

So while I am not calling for an outright win tonight for Orlando I do expect for the Magic to keep things close and well inside the lofty number.

Take Orlando plus the points!

200? Toronto & Boston UNDER the total

On the diamond I look for a low scoring game tonight in Fenway. Having played a low scoring game last night I look for another pitchers dual tonight as Cecil & Penny battle it out on the mound. You see for the Bluejays they might of round magic in the bottle as Cecil has been a huge surprise going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.80 in three starts. Now for Boston they turn to the ever improving Penny who has started to turn things around by lowering his season ERA by almost two runs over his last three starts. Meanwhile, together its Toronto & Boston combining to go under the posted price in 6 of their last 7 combined games heading into tonight and 8 of the last 11 series games dating back to last year. Well given the strong Under treads and the expected pitching duel I see nothing but a low scoring game the stays well under the total.
