Was looking forward to Riggs/Diaz as well as seeing Overeem back in action. But the card is still solid.

Only problem................My wife's Birthday is that night.

She likes MMA, so I think we can still check it out after dinner. LOL

Any of you guys betting on this one?

I intend to do some research over the next week and I'll see what I come up with. As it stands, I'm not nearly as familiar with the Strikeforce fighters as I am the UFC guys.

I would have been on Diaz had he been fighting Riggs, but as it stands now, Ill be laying off this event.

Diaz/Heiron fight in trouble....

On Friday evening Nick Diaz no-showed for a pre-fight drug screening with the California State Athletic Commission in order to clear himself for action in the upcoming bout between himself and Jay Hieron at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” on August 15.

No problem, explained CSAC Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas, he’d go out of his way to make the fight happen. Douglas re-scheduled the Diaz drug testing for the latest possible time it could be completed in order for the bout to take place, early this morning.

So where’s Diaz? Good question. In the sake of the bout with with Jay Hieron, he absolutely must get down to the CSAC headquarters TODAY.

“[The test] has to be in the lab today by 5 pm to get the processing started because usually we’re looking at about a 72 hour process time, and then the extra day for results,” explained Douglas. “So if they get it in today there’s a chance it could be finished on Thursday, and we’ll have a report in our hands by Friday. Doing the test tomorrow is not going to do any good because the lab won’t process anything during the weekend and we wouldn’t have anything in our hands to license the bout until Monday. It has to be in by 5 pm today”

Douglas further confirmed with FiveOuncesOfPain.com that the CSAC has been actively trying to reach representatives from both the Diaz camp and Strikeforce over the weekend without success.

Diaz has not showed up at the CSAC this morning during the agreed time frame, and the upcoming Diaz vs. Hieron bout appears to be in severe jeopardy.

I really want to take Santos(cyborg) against Carano because I know shes the better fighter but Carano is strikeforces money maker and I cant them wanting her to lose

I heard Nick Diaz was supposedly "Legally" allowed to smoke Marijuana to help cope with his ADHD, but he had to have it completely out of his system in order to legally fight and thats why he missed his drug test because he needs more time to get the refer out of his system

Hmm, crazy shit. . .

Here's up update:

Jay Hieron will meet Jesse Taylor in a non-title welterweight bout this Saturday at “Carano vs. Cyborg” at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The bout, which was approved by the California State Athletic Commission Monday afternoon, will be one of four fights aired on Showtime at 10:30 p.m. EST.

Taylor, a veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter 7” TV series, will replace Nick Diaz, who failed to take mandatory drug test needed to complete his re-licensing for a welterweight championship bout against Hieron.

Diaz did not show up for his originally scheduled drug test on Friday. The test was re-scheduled Monday, but the CSAC said Diaz and his reps did not arrange a time to take the test with a CSAC inspector who was standing by.

Coker said he’d been in contact with Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s longtime trainer and coach, and had set up two separate flights to transport the fighter from Lake Tahoe, where he was training, to Los Angeles. Coker said he’d also been in contact with the CSAC inspector who would oversee the testing.

“He still has the time to go do it and we’re hoping that he makes the right decision,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker during a teleconference call on Monday.

However, Douglas said no communication had been made.

“Nick Diaz, nor any member of his camp for that matter, has not made contact with the Office of the California State Athletic Commission or Inspector Sid Segovia in charge of the ‘second chance’ drug test that needs to be administered to renew his license,” wrote Douglas in an email to Sherdog.com at 11:41 a.m. PST.

Gracie told Sherdog.com Saturday that Diaz was caught off-guard by what he calls a change in policy. According to Gracie, former CSAC Executive Officer Armando Garcia came to an agreement with the coach and fighter over a year ago that Diaz would be tested for marijuana, as well as all other non-approved substances, only on the nights of his scheduled bouts.

Gracie said Diaz has a legal medical prescription for marijuana to treat a hyperactivity disorder and that Garcia’s arrangement with the fighter allowed Diaz a two-week window to flush the drug out of his system.

“They just changed the policy and gave us two days’ notice,” said Gracie. “We don’t have any options.”

Taylor, who made it to the TV series semifinals before he was dimissed for disorderly conduct, is on a seven-fight win streak that includes a first-round technical knockout over Dong Sik Yoon at Dream 10 on July 20 in Japan.

Geez, That card went from one of the best of the year, to an Ulitmate fight night card.

The card's a clusterfuck. What, is Diaz like the 3rd of 4th fighter to drop off for one reason or another? It will still be fun, though. Carano VS Cyborg is what it's all about anyway, and I am actually pretty interested to see how Jesse Taylor will do since I watched the season of TUF that he was on.

Taylor is on a nice roll. Herion is a nice step up for him, but not too much. Should be a decent fight.

I'm curious to see the odds on this one. If they put Taylor as a heavy underdog then I'll probably throw .25u or so on him. He's pretty big and good at getting some GnP going. I don't know much about Hieron's takedown defense or how susceptible he is to strong wrestlers. Can you shed any light on that situation?

I know Hieron is a strong wrestler too, pretty good all around. I would say that with Jay training at extreme Couture, his takedown defense would be pretty good.

Im thinking the line will be around -150

All I know about Jay Hieron comes from seeing him get worked by a young Georges St. Pierre.

I'm going to go home and watch some fights tonight.

That GSP fight was the time I saw GSP. I remember it was one of those undercard fights they played after the event.

Funny version of it here.

Sportsbook just put a line up.

Hieron: -180
Taylor: +150

I think I might hold off and wait for Taylor's line to get better. I feel about him in this fight for some reason.
