Want to test the hypothesis of Wisdom of Crowd in sports wagering...

Current line is Jets - 3

Please submit your votes based on line above. I will play based on which team gets the most votes from this forum.

Thanks.

I can see an upset...IF and only IF Sanchez throws 3 picks.
I also see Miami winning if there is only two picks thrown by Sanchez...one INT and one pick-six.
However....I think Sanchez will only throw one pick..and Jets win by 6

Jets to cover -3

Also -145 2 units

NFL home dogs are always my favorite. But not really sure bout this one. Miami has QB issues. I don't see them running the wild cat all night. Not sure I am conviced on the Jets play either. Beat Titans and Pats, but that is looking less impressive now...

Gut is telling me to take the over and stay off the side..34 is awful low for a Monday night game. Still have to check the weather though..

Voting update, 8 total votes:

Jets - 3

Jets/Miami/Undecided (push, neutral, Over)

4-1-3

Was hoping for more votes, but will play the team with the most votes...if undecided wins out, then I will stay on the side line for this one. Will keep voting for 2 more hours or 1600 EST.

Thanks.

Not having much luck recently...so why not let members vote on the wager.

So thought is to let the forum decides on the best wager for this upcoming MNF game.

Current line is Jets -3

Place wager on the team that gets most vote...if forum is undecided, then don't place the wager on either team.

I'll use this approach for all NFL Sunday and Monday night games in the coming weeks and see how it turns out.

I'll keep a running record and publish the results each game and week.

1600 deadline EST is because I live overseas, 6 hours ahead of EST... I'll place the wager then before I go to sleep at 10:00pm here.. :-)

The ESPN intel report has Miami as a 57% favorite tonight, but the intel line has the Jets as favorites???

Miami has faced three of the best passers in the NFL this season, Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, and Matt Ryan. All of these games resulted in losses. Is it possible to rank Sanchez anywhere near these three? I think Miami's passing defense ratings are an indication of who they have played.

Miami has dominated up front on both sides of the ball thus far. They are ranked #1 in rushing offense(probably because that is all they do) and #2 in rushin defense if that means anything considering who they have played.

It is difficult to look at previous games also, being NYJ beat NE, but NE barely won vs Buffalo, and Buffalo was beaten by Miami last week. No point in looking further into this, because this game is completely different.

If I was more certain as to whether Miami can run the football effectively tonight for 120+ yards, I would take Miami at home SU to move to 2-3 on the season. Wait a minute, that is why you gamble, because you aren't ever completely certain. This game could go either way, but I want to gamble and once again a sucker for the Underdog ML.

MIAMI SU +140

I agree about the games played and the teams played. Miami definitely does not have the 2nd best run D although that is where they are ranked. I will post some stats below to back this up.

Here is a list of the teams they have played and where each team is ranked in Rush D

Buffalo- ranked 29th in run D
San Diego- ranked 27th in run D
ATL- ranked 24th in run D
Indy- ranked 15th in run D

Here is some stats where Miami has faced teams with a weak run offense

ATL-ranked 15th in rush O
Indy ranked 29th in rush O
SD- ranked 32nd in rush O
Buff- ranked 10th in rush O (this stat is skewed a little because they are 25th against the pass and teams try to throw on them)

Jets Rush D is ranked 13th
Jets Pass D is ranked 6th
Jets Overall D is ranked 4th ( played against some offenses with the capabilities of putting up a load of points)

Jets Overall O 24th
Jets Pass O 27th
Jets Run O 7th

So, you got a run offense in the Jets that has faced 3 of the top 11 run Defenses this year in New Orleans, New England, and Tennessee. Then you got a run O in Miami that has faced 3 teams in ATL, Indy, and SD that are 15 are below in rush D. I actually think the Jets run game is overlooked. They are still ranked 7th in rush O and they have only went against one Defense that is not in the top 11 in run D. I look for the NYJ to bounce back and control this game. Rex has already proved this year that if he shut you down when he was in Baltimore that he could shut you down while he is in New York. I think that proves to be the truth again tonight. Jets win and cover.

Final voting:

Jets -3

4-3-3

A slight edge to the Jets...

Point spread now: Jets -3 1/2

I elected to buy 1 pt, in case it is a close game and Jets only win by a FG.

My final play tonight:

Jets - 2 1/2

Risk: 50.00
Win: 30.30

Good luck everyone whichever side of the fence you are on tonight!

What a brutal score to wake up to...

Would you believe I woke up just in time to see a 27-24 Jets lead go down the toilet. Dolphins simply made plays in the final drive and deserved to win.

Next time, I need to consider how the undecided votes should come into play...voting was close between teams, the undecided may have hinted to not take Jets and/or pass on the game.

Oh well, I'll try it again next Sunday night.

Thanks.

So, here is current results scoreboard:

I still think the collective wisdom and votes from the forum over time will be better than me picking the wager.

I'll try it again for next Sunday night game...

Let see if we can do better.

I'l' post early and give people to more time to vote.
