View Full Version : Anyone seen any good movies?
I think we need a movie thread around here where people can put movies they watched recently so the rest of us will know if they are any good or not.
Two movies I just watched in the last week were :Fast and Furious and Couples Retreat .
Fast and Furious was good ,proabably the best one since the first one .It was good to see Paul Walker and Vin Disel back together . I'd give the movie a B+
Went and watched Couples Retreat last Friday on "date night" ::jerk:: .I really liked the movie and thought it was very funny. There were some corny parts in it but there are in every movie. Some of my friends didnt like it but they dont like Vince Vaughn ,they are more into people like Will Ferrell. I for one like Vaughn and thought it was good .I give it a A-

Good idea for a thread.
But I have to disagree about Fast and Furious. I thought it was pretty decent, but in my opinion they go in this order: 1, 3, 4, 2. I really liked Tokyo Drift even though it's the lowest grossing of the series.
If you like straight-to-video martial arts films, then here's one that I WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend
http://muwees.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Blood-And-Bone.jpg
I saw it recently and thought it was great. Michael Jai White, who I've been a fan of for years, is very charismatic and has awesome martial arts skills. The story is good enough. The choreography is excellent. And a few MMA fighters show up here and there, including Kimbo, Gina Carano, and Bob Sapp.
If you know where to look you can easily find a high-quality download.

Im getting into a bunch of movies this weekend. I saw 2012 last night, that was pretty good.
I got Avatar, Couples Retreat, The Informant, Law abiding citizen, and Ill be checking out the Hangover again, which was fuckin hillarious.
Couples Retreat is good I seen it at the theatre ,I also seen Hangover there too. Hangerover must have been taped late 2007 because you can see the cranes in the background still building the Wynn Encore

Couples Retreat was ok, most of the funny shit was shown in the previews.
Avatar was fuckin long, but pretty good.
I havent see a movie since football season started...LOL
Last one I seen before that was Inglorious bastards. It was O.k.
Inglourious Basterds was just "ok"?
I thought that movie was fucking spectacular. But then again I'm a QT whore.

Whats QT?

Law Abiding Citizen was pretty good, but the ending kind of sucked.
The informant was boring as hell for about the first 30 minutes, but it was actually so stupid, it was funny.

I agree. IB was fucking bad ass. The scene in the bar is classic.
QT is the shit.
I went and saw Boondock Saints II last night.
Overall, as a fan of the first, I found the second to be disappointing. The tone is too light hearted and there's too much cheesiness. Troy Duffy seems to have decided he was making an action comedy instead of a bad ass action movie with the occasional comedic moment. It has some redeeming qualities, and could've been a worthy successor, but ultimately doesn't live up to its potential.
I will say that Troy Duffy is a talented guy, though. The only two movies he's made are Boondock I and II and he's pretty impressive for someone who never went to film school. He just needs to work a little harder on the script next time and give the fans something closer to the original.

That's about what I figured. I saw the preview, and it looks like time has not been good to Sean Patrick Flannery, LOL.

so heres the scoop on chipmunks II the squeakquel, it is a kids flick my 6 year old loved it, though some kid movies are really good how they have adult inuindos( i might have butchered that word dont think ive ever spelled it) but this one didn t have to many id say it s a 3 out of 5 if you ask my kid hed say 4.5 out of 5 , if you have a young kid theyll loveit, personally wasnt even planning on going but than he didnt want me to leave he started getting a little choked up , shy kid syndrome so i stuck it out hes only a kid once, and this is the best age right now would nt trade it for anything this age

I saw Sherlock Holmes. Pretty good flick, I'm a fan of Downey though and Jude Law played a good Dr. Watson. Definitely worth the price of admission though.
Also saw avatar 3D imax a few weeks back. Really awesome!!!
I just saw a movie called Rendition on cinemax . Its from 2007 but I thought it was really good. It has Resse Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal in it. Its about a guy that gets wrongfully accused of being a terriost at a airport and is taken away.
Good movie you should check it out ,its worth it imo

If you have a soft spot for kids, the movie, The Lovely Bones will make you ball your eyes out.
Mark Walberg is in it. Its about a 14 year old girl that gets murdered by her neighbor. I don’t think I ever watched a movie where I was fighting back tears for 2 hours.

2-Casino
3-Departed

******SPOILER ALERT *******
I watched it last night when I couldnt sleep . They werent BS him he really was a patient .I knew something was up at the beginning of the movie when Ruffalo couldnt get his gun off his belt .They spent way too long with the camera on that for it not to mean something even though I didnt know what it meant. I didnt realize they were role playing until they actual said it in the lighthouse. It makes sense though Leo was never going to believe what they were saying unless he was able to check everything out for himself.
I thought the awesome part of the ending was not that he was a patient and they were role playing but that he pretended to lapse again .That last scene on the stairs was the best one I had seen in a while . Leo knew that the role play was his last chance to become cured ,if the role play hadnt worked they were going to do a labotamy on him because he was so dangerous. Even though Leo was cured this time he decided he wanted a labotamy done so he could forget everything that had happened to his family and the nightmares would go away. Thats why on the stairs he goes back into his Marshalls routine. And you know he's faking because he says " would you rather die a hero than live a monster?" .He was tired of being the monster and remembering everything and just wanted the memories to go away ::handshake::

Hmm, an interesting take. I had not considered that at all.
I'm not sure that's what the filmmaker intended, but it's an intriguing interpretation.

Hmm. . .
But a labotomy doesn't kill you. If he wanted to die, he could've jumped off of one of those big ass cliffs. And if he merely wanted to forget, then he could've made a statement about forgetting.
Perhaps the thing that makes me think most that he really did relapse is the music at the end. That low, blasting sound of doom seemed to say, "What a tragedy that he can't keep it mentally together and will have to be labotomized."
Mr. IWS
03-24-2010, 04:27 PM

Maybe.

I just rewatched the ending and it makes me believe even more he was just faking the relapse and wanted the labatomy so he would forget everything. I mean he voluntarily gets up and leads the doctors and nurses to the lighthouse knowing whats getting ready to happen. If he were just back in his marshall personality he would be fighting them telling them he was a US Marshall. He knew what the truth was and just wanted to forget it imo
I mean, dying in the sense that, his memories would be dead.
Exactly what I got out of he statement ::handshake::
Someone get Martin Scorcese on the line. . .
Interestingly enough, the IMDB board is full of threads about whether or not he was actully sane (and actually a US Marshall) or if he was insane (and the doctors were telling the truth). . .

Last thing on this then on to other movies
"What do think is worse? Living as a monster or dying as a good man".
Eariler the Doctor who asked him "When you see a monster don't you agree you have to stop it?" So with that I think he just wanted to his mind to die .He just realized he killed his wife, his kids were dead and he had nothing to live for except nightmares and grief.

Yeah, but come one, there are certain movies that come out that eventually just everyone sees.
Like Jurassic Park. . .

LOL at the progression of Jurrasic Park to titanic to clue.
LOL at the progression of Jurrasic Park to titanic to clue.
What the fuck?
The only difference is that Clue wasn't a box office monster at the time of its release. Neither were a lot of films to go on to become almost universally watched, though. Most people who grew up in the 80s or early 90s have seen it. Shit, I've definitely seen it more times than I've seen Titanic (which I think I've watched once) and probably more than Jurassic Park.
Clue is the fucking shit!

Dude, I like all kind of movies. Some of my favorite movies are chick flicks and teen movies. Legally Blonde? How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Cruel Intentions? Love that shit. A lot of family/kids movies kick ass, too.
I just got the fourth kind today .going to watch it tonight by myself around 2 am with the lights off.

Dude, the bitch is an actress. You can find pictures of her where she looks like all kinds of shit. Go watch Monster. She looks horrible. But that's because she's made to look that way. If you really think that on the street, without make up, she looks like that shit in your pic that that's just silly.

Nope, not true. I've tested that theory and it's just not so. It defies logic, but that's the way it is.

Yeah, not me. In my experience, hot girls are often less fun to fuck.
As it stands, I actually go more for "cute" girls than hot anyway. A cute, innocent face with D+ tits gets me everytime.

From IMDB:
"Two criminal drifters without sympathy get more than they bargained for after kidnapping and holding for ransom the surrogate mother of a powerful and shady man."
I guess that kind of explains it but that's a pretty brief description. It's got Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillipe. It's actually a pretty bad ass movie and the first time where Phillipe was all grown up.

I've heard early reviews are kind of sketchy, but I am intentionally avoiding reviews for this one.
I'll let you know what I think once I check it out, which should be soon.
Okay, went and saw Iron Man 2. Overall, I liked it. I would agree that it's not as good as the first, but I wouldn't give it a thumbs down. I still thought it was entertaining and performances were good all around, Mickey Rourke was great as Vanko, and the last 30 minutes are pretty awesome.

I saw Robin Hood.
It's good overall. I really did enjoy it.
But don't expect all the action you see in the trailers. It's really not like that. Also, don't expect the Robin Hood tale that you're used to. This is really more of an origin story, kind of like Batman Begins. So basically everything that happens in this movie is stuff that happens BEFORE all the robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, etc.

Yeah, I thought it was incredible. One of the best movies in the history of cinema.
I agree that at times it got a little hard to follow, but considering the complexity of the plot, it was probably as clear as it could really be. I think after another viewing or two most of it would fall into place.
Great performances, excellent visuals, excellent score by Hans Zimmer. Strong 9/10.

Did you notice that the totem never stops at the end of the movie, and his kids look exactly the same, wearing the same shit? Nigga still dreamin.
There's been a lot of talk on this. The totem wobbles but then looks like it straightens up . . . before we can be sure though the screen goes black.
The evidence of the kids wearing the same clothes though probably pushes it over the top. I dunno. Nolan obviously left it open ended and wanted to stir up some shit and get people talking. If he WAS dreaming though, of course that means that the whole movie's a dream.

The Expendables sucked. I did see a cameo by Big Nog in there, but other than that, the movie was stupid. The last 20 minutes was just shit blowing up. ::thumbdown::
The other guys was funny as shit, Will Ferrell has some classic shit in there, like always. ::thumbup:: ::thumbup::
I have to disagree on the Expendables. I thought that movie was a hell of a lot of fun. It was just an old school action movie, like any of that shit Stallone and Arnie were doing back in the day. And seeing all these action stars together in one film was worth the ticket price alone.
The Other Guys was pretty good, but was a little too long and the funniest shit is in the first 30 minutes of the movie.

One of the best scenes in the history of cinema. . .
^^seriously?
I thought that scene was kind of a letdown, to be honest. It was good but it could've been so much more. There's basically zero tension to the scene and the dialogue is pretty bland.
Heat is actually a fairly flawed movie. There's entirely no reason for it to be 3 hours long for one thing, but the parts that are good are spectacular. The main shootout in particular is completely insane.

I disagree about the tension . . . although hardcore tension was probably not what Mann was going for. I think it was a great scene for a few reasons:
1. It was the first time Pacino and De Niro had been on screen together. This real-world reality in itself gives it a certain gravitas regardless of the any purely film-related elements of the production.
2. It was inherently interesting. Two men--a white hat and a black hat--sit down together. The bad guy, we realize isn't really a bad guy, he's just in a line of work the government--an amoral organization--doesn't happen to agree with. We also know by this point that the good guy isn't so good, and is actually quite flawed. Professionally, they have this relationship that keeps them at odds, but when it comes down to it, they're actually very similar people and, in another life, would probably be friends.
3. The scene is just performed well, in my opinion. But as a friend of mine said just the other day, "Art cannot be measured, only appreciated." So it's no surprise that we look at the same scene and come away with differing impressions.
