View Full Version : Nog VS Cain

Nog's down to -145 on Bodog. I know he's looked questionable lately, but his performance against Couture was a good one, in my opinion better than his performance against Heath or Sylvia. When his line first came out, he was -250 and I didn't see any value at all, but it's starting to look pretty attractive. Cain doesn't hit that hard so I don't see him knocking Nog out, so the question is really whether his wrestling will be superior to the point of being able to control the fight like he's used to doing. Nog's a crafty veteran who seems with a better sub game than anything Cain has dealt with, so I could easily see him taking this one.

The more I look at this one, the more I think Cain is just gonna out work him for a decision.

I like Nogueira, especially at -145. No way Velasquez can knock him out. So the way I see it, Nogueira has three rounds to pull out a submission.

This is so tough to call. Cain has never faced a grappler. Nog swept Randy a couple of times.

I am gonna say Nog though. No bet for me though.

Anyway, lets get back to this...........

Anyone worried about Nog with all these staph infections (see zombie Nog), possibly affecting him in this one. Cain sets one hell of a pace. I know he wont finish Nog, but I dont think him out working him, and staying out of subs is out of the question.

SPX
01-01-2010, 09:41 PM
I think it could go either way, but the "I like Nog at -145" part of me says that this is a child fighting a man. Cain's had a total of 7 MMA fights with his best wins coming over groundgame-clueless Kongo and journeyman Rothwell.

Could this be Cain's coming out party? Sure. But this fight could also put him in his place, where he is forced to learn that he is not yet ready to fight legends in this sport.

Mr. IWS

The only reason I aint betting him.

zY|
01-01-2010, 09:49 PM
He'll have to be much more conservative with his ground and pound. He doesn't want to give Nog the kind of space he was giving Rothwell.

I think this fight really comes down to can Cain stay out of submissions. Nog will likely beat him up standing, and Cain will be forced to go for the takedown, which he will definitely get.

Luke
01-01-2010, 09:55 PM
Personally I like Cain and may bet him.

NOG looked like shit against Mir ,Silvia and Herring.

He looked great against Couture but I think that was more of Couture being that much on the decline than NOG looking good

NOG wont be able to push around Cain like he did Couture. Of coure Cain has a weak chin and could get caught like he did the few times against Kongo.

I'm betting Cain or nothing

Did you miss the Kongo fight ? Cain got rocked many ,many times while they were standing in that fight from what I remember. Had the fight stayed on their feet Kongo would have destroyed Cain

zY|
01-01-2010, 10:12 PM
No I didn't miss it. That's the fight I base this on. And he dropped him twice. The first punch he hit him with I think would have KO'd a fucking rhino. His head spun around and he barely hit a knee and was right back in it, even slammed him afterwards.

http://i44.tinypic.com/wtbluf.gif

Seriously, imagine that punch hitting guys like Couture or Mir. They would've turned into a puddle right on the spot.

SPX
01-01-2010, 10:15 PM
I don't know, man. It was a hard punch, but Kongo was in the middle of backpedaling when he threw the first one. I don't think it was full force.

No it's definitely a power punch. He's backpedaling then plants his feet and throws that short right. Most MMA fighters don't have the technique to do that. Plus Cain ran right into it. Besides, all you need to see that it was powerful is that his head spun around like that. That's what knocks you out. And he didn't go out. Hence, great chin.

Luke
01-01-2010, 10:23 PM
Well he either has a weak stand up defense or a weak chin ,either one is not great to have with someone that has good boxing skills that NOG does.

This is the only reason I'm not 100% I'm taking Cain or not

I think Cain has a decent chin. He got blown up a couple times in that Congo fight, and hung in there.

I dont think Nog has that type of "lights out power" to hurt Cain like that. I think Nogs only path to victory is a sub, but thats how it usually is with him, and he is the best of all time in the hw division IMO.

The HW division has always been a joke ,for god sakes Tim Silvia ruled it for two years until a 70 year old Couture dethoned him and look at Silvia and AA now.

Went ahead and jumped on Nog at -145 for 1.5u. The main reason I didn't wait is that I noticed several other books and dropped down into the 140s and had bounced back up. It's hard to say what'll happen closer to fight time, but I think Nog will remain a favorite and won't go much lower, if at all.

Nog is the underdog on Sportsbook (+105) and Bodog (-105) now.

I'm laying down a couple units on Nog at +105, but I fear Cain will blanket him for a decision.

I'm not sure if your "Women in China want to move to the US" question is serious or not :P I shouldn't say I have the "one" who doesn't - there may be four or five others :P But seriously, after having met thousands of women age 18-35 here (I'm a Uni/Grad School Teacher) I would say at least 25% of women here would go to the US in a heartbeat, 50% would go if they married an American, and maybe 25% have too strong of family or cultural ties to leave.

Admittedly (though not unexpectedly), there are downfalls to living in a communist country half a world away from life as I've known to this point. I don't have any regrets, I just feel after having experienced several locations in both "East" and "West" long enough to give everything a fair shake, that we could have a much higher quality of life elsewhere.

I actually can't decide if it's a knockoff Hilton or a knockoff Sheraton. The Chinese name is the name for Sheraton, but the stuff inside that has English says Hilton. Very interesting Garr. Just curious, how did you find our forum?

I'm a huge MMA fan and a small time sports bettor. There is/was a thread on the ESPN.com MMA boards a few weeks ago talking about betting on MMA and someone mentioned this site as a place he goes for information, so I decided to check it out.

I probably would prefer to live in Shanghai or Beijing, but only if I could find a position with a salary that was proportional with the cost of living jump, which with the competition (that's where *every* foreigner in China wants to be) is nearly impossible. If I were in a small city I would be desperate to go to Shanghai or Beijing, but Xi'an is a tourist destination and has 8 million people so there are WalMarts, McDonalds, etc. here too.
