One of the most expected fights of 2010 will not happen anymore. The title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, set to UFC 112 main event, will possibly be cancelled, as TATAME.com learned from close sources that the challenger is injured and won’t be able to recover in time.

Jayme Sandall, Karate trained of the challenger, revealed to TATAME.com that Belfort had a shoulder injury, but he doesn’t know how bad it is. “He was training but not using the arm for a long time because of the injury, he said he’d stop for a while. He said he’d have it scanned to know how bad it is, but I don’t talk with him for 15 days and I don’t know about the results”, said.

TATAME.com tried to reach Belfort and his manager, Fabiano Farah, but had no success. We called Anderson Silva, who claimed he had no information about the injured. “Nobody told me anything about it. I’m training normally to this fight”, the champion said.

In case this news confirms, it’ll be the second time that the UFC is forced to postpone the battle, which was set to the UFC 108 event in January 2, but Silva had to cancel the fight due to an elbow surgery. Stay tuned on TATAME.com or more news.

I agree completely. With the exception of Hendo--who honestly hasn't looked awesome in the UFC--Silva hasn't even really been tested. Let's see him fight some truly championship-caliber competition before declaring him a god of the Octagon.

This was taken from Ariel Helwani's twitter on February 9th:

Chael Sonnen says he is going to train for 112 just in case Belfort pulls out due to injury, so he can be ready to fight Anderson Silva.
2:20 PM Feb 9th from web

I cant really see that happening.

Damn, looks like Chael is suspended until March. No way he'll take this fight.

Who does that leave for Anderson to fight? A LHW fight might make sense. I hope they don't just scrap it.

Theres really no one for him to fight. If they just want to throw a fighter into the lions mouth then I suggest Alan Belcher or Yoshhiro Akiyama

TATAME.com reported yesterday that the title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, scheduled to UFC 112, would not happen anymore due to a shoulder injury of the challenger. Hours later, Dana White, UFC president, confirmed the information via twitter. Belfort’s manager, Fabiano Farah, called TATAME.com today to explain the fighter’s injury. According to the manager, the problems in his shoulder isn’t new.

“He tried to heal it to the fight against Jorge Santiago, then he did again to fight Rich Franklin and the last one was in last December, when he was supposed to face Anderson (UFC 108). When the fight was delayed, he continued training under medication and thought the fight would be transferred to February, what didn’t happen. Since his start in the UFC I told (the event) what was going on, send Lorenzo Fertitta the exams he was doing and having him posted”, explains Farah.

The manager reveled that Vitor’s pains was too strong and that did a MRI, which revealed a worst injury. “He sacrificed his body a lot, but getting inside the UFC was such a big motivation to him. Now he’s in really bug pain and the new MRI showed the injury is getting worse. His doctor, Michel Simoni, said that Vitor needs to stop now because his shoulder can get out o place. His recovering time, according to Simoni, is five to eight months”, reveals the manager. Stay tuned to TATAME.com or more news.

I was looking at the UFC roster a bit. The only guys I can see him fighting at this point, is Okami (who already has a fight in March) or at 205 Matushenko, or Luis Cane.

Outside shots

Sexyama and Maia.

Thoughts?

I've heard Cane at LHW is a very probable fight for Silva. I'm thinking it would go about the same as his 2 other LHW fights in the UFC. I would rather see Cane fight Forrest and let Lil Nog have someone else. Cane and Forrest would be a war

I agree with you regarding Cain and Forrest. Much better fight. Forrest needs the W, too.

What would be the line on Griffin/Cain? I'm assuming you think Forrest would win and be the favorite the way you worded that Forrest needs a W. I too think he would open as the favorite. Not sure how I see it playing out. It'd be a great fight though

I think Forrest would probably open as a slight fav. Maybe like -130.

Gun to my head, I would probably say Forrest grinds out the decision, but it would be close. By saying that Forrest needs the W I was really more thinking that he has a lot better chance of grabbing it in this fight than he does against Lil' Nog.

As for how it plays out, I wouldn't expect it to hit the ground at all unless Forrest does something surprising and goes for a takedown. On the feet, it really just depends on who hits who the most. Forrest might be able to utilize his leg kicks to edge it out.

Of course. That makes more sense than what I said. I'm really anxious to see what the Lil Nog/Forrest line is. I really think there might be some sick value in Lil Nog if he doesn't open too big of a fav
