Are you serious?

It's actually interesting you say that because just yesterday I was wondering what it would be like to go back to a time before cell phones, the Internet, GPS, etc.

I had one for years, I dropped mine in the pool like a year and a half ago, and because I already smashed two of them, they wouldnt give me another one unless I paid in full, as my insurance only covered two replacements.

I said fuck it, and waited for my contract to run out, because I really didnt like the phone anyway.

I got used to not having it, and never got around to getting a new one.

I got one my office gave me, but I always leave it here now because my boss has a habit of hitting me up at home like we are boys and what not.

Im probably going to get one this summer though. My son has that i-phone, that thing looks pretty cool, so ill probably get one of them.

Interesting.

I've actually considered cutting off my cell service to save $45 a month and go totally with Skype. It's only like $2.99 a month and you get a phone number and voicemail and the whole shebang. The obvious problem is that you have to be at your computer to make and receive calls, so I haven't done it.

I dont have one either .I use to get so many calls in a day I couldnt get anything done so I shut it off .I cant stand answering the phone when I'm trying to do something .I must have shut mine off not to long after you did Zak because I remember calling you from Vegas the year before last

Of course my GF who lives with me has one so I just use it if I need one .

You'd be so much less stressed with a stupid phone ringing al the time no matter where you are and what you do

I really get very few calls. The only people I really talk to are my Dad and my friend Brian, and occasionally my mom, brother, and friend Al.

The other too is that I actually like to do most of my talking while I'm commuting to and from places since I don't have anything else to do while walking or on the bus. I really don't like to talk on the phone while I'm at home. That's what IM is for.

You guys are freaks.

My iPhone is like goddamn crack. I never put that motherfucker down. If I'm not surfing the web on it, sending email, checking Facebook/Twitter, texting, playing intermittent Scrabble with friends, I'm plugging it into my car stereo to act as my radio, remote controlling my desktop computer, or using it as a Wifi hotspot.

Supposedly it makes phone calls too.

Your thesis is essentially to get off the computer to go outside. With my iphone I can, and I do. I don't really agree with your article at all, but it's also not relevant to this conversation.

No, you miss the point entirely. The point is that we are spending too much time fucking with technology. It's not about "going outside." It's about not losing our humanity by ALWAYS being engaged in a virtual world. I'm not sure how seriously to take it, but you said:

If that's true, then it doesn't matter if you're outside, you're still on the computer. Take some time instead to sit down and have a beer and a face-to-face conversation with someone. Or maybe even fuck a girl!

There's shit to life other than e-mail, texting, Facebook, Twitter, and fucking Scrabble. . .

Don't get me wrong. I really don't take my own advice. I mean, this day and age most of us HAVE to spend at least a few hours a day on the Internet. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I'm at work so there's a guaranteed 8 hours right there. Then when I go home I go straight to the computer to do shit that I can't get away with at work, and then I usually finish the night off with a 6 pack of beer and a movie or two. (Or a few episodes of that excellent new TV show Spartacus!)

But I have definitely felt overburdened by the shit lately and it's just TOO much. It's just not healthy.

I had heard that dude has cancer, but I hadn't heard that they were halting production. That really sucks. The show is fucking awesome and there are really not a lot of shows that I give a fuck about. The only others that I like are Dexter, The Tudors (kind of, but not really), and a few reality shows . . . like Project Runway.

Hey, look, talk all the shit you want. I don't give a fuck.

You can blame the whole thing on this female neighbor of mine who wanted to come over one night to watch TV because she didn't have cable. Turns out that's what she wanted to watch and I was instantly hooked after being forced into the situation.

You should definitely watch Dexter. It is 100% awesome. A buddy of mine gave me a disc that had all of season 1 on it quite a while back. The shit just sat on a shelf for, like, a year. Then I finally watched it and loved it and haven't looked back since. I'm patiently awaiting the release of season 4 on Blu-Ray. I know I could go find a torrent for it, but it's a tradition for me to wait until the shit comes out and get it through Netflix.
